Chapter 375 A Thousand Miles of Tenderness (7) Honey, I Miss You So Much
After dinner, Alaric jumped up to do the dishes.
Cecilia followed, wrapping her arms around his waist, making him pause. A second later, a big grin spread across his face.
The room was super quiet, just the sound of water running from the faucet.
Cecilia felt this overwhelming warmth.
She never thought a simple house could feel so homey, so comforting.
"How long are you sticking around?" Alaric asked.
"A week. Heading back next Monday," Cecilia replied.
If she could, she'd stay with Alaric forever.
Alaric nodded, looking a bit bummed too.
He then said, "Saw on the news that the Innovation Arc project went to the Kingsley Group."
"I did that on purpose," Cecilia said, never hiding anything from him.
"I know." Alaric smiled. "That's why I didn't call to comfort you."
He was explaining the reason why he didn't rush to comfort her after the news broke, it was because he got her.
Cecilia suddenly thought of something, saying, "Dominic might have planted a spy around you."
Alaric nodded.
He seemed to have known for a while.
"His best skill is being sneaky," Cecilia reminded.
"Don't worry, I can be even more sneaky," Alaric said.
Cecilia couldn't help but laugh.
But she was suddenly grateful for Alaric's sneakiness.
At least he could counter it.
She didn't want anyone around her getting hurt because of Dominic.
Alaric's strength made her feel safe with him.
"Mrs. Whitaker." Alaric finished the dishes, turned around, and pulled Cecilia into his arms.
Cecilia was startled.
Was he always this unpredictable?
"From now on, no talking about other guys," Alaric suddenly said, dead serious.
Cecilia was speechless.
It wasn't like she brought it up.
"Come on, let's hit the bed." Alaric bent down and scooped her up.
He was clearly eager.
It felt like he was finally getting something he'd been waiting for!
Cecilia was so startled she quickly wrapped her arms around his neck, complaining, "We just ate. I can't sleep. I wanna watch TV for a bit first."
"Don't worry, I'll make sure you digest well before sleeping," Alaric said with a grin.
"You rascal!" Cecilia said.
The room was filled with passion.
Cecilia lay on the big bed, not even wanting to move a toe.
She just wanted to stay there.
She couldn't get why she was the one feeling like she was falling apart. It was so unfair!
Cecilia watched as Alaric got out of bed.
At 7 AM, he got up and left, and Cecilia had to wake up early during her vacation.
She watched as Alaric put on his clothes, looking all dignified and extraordinary.
He was just a refined rascal!
At that moment, he squatted down, his handsome face close to hers, planting a kiss on her lips, a kiss full of care.
Cecilia didn't have the energy to respond or resist.
She let him kiss her for a while.
Then he reluctantly pulled away and said in a low voice, "You look like you need more rest."
Cecilia shot him a deliberate glare.
If he hadn't woken her up, she would've been sleeping like a baby.
She wasn't buying Alaric's act.
Alaric chuckled.
These past couple of days, he seemed to be grinning a lot.
Cecilia wasn't sure if it was just her, but it felt like Alaric was smiling more.
Had he always been this smiley?
Not really.
In their past life, once Alaric got deep into the noble family game, he barely smiled.
Whenever she saw him, he was all cold and distant.
The Alaric back then and the Alaric now were like night and day.
Was it her who changed Alaric, or did Alaric change her?
Cecilia suddenly reached out.
Her pale arm snaked out from under the blanket, wrapping around Alaric's neck.
Alaric was taken aback.
Just a moment ago, Cecilia was giving him the stink eye, and now she was all up in his space.
"Alaric, you need to smile more," Cecilia said earnestly.
She couldn't shake the feeling that the Alaric from their past life made her heart ache.
"I like it when you smile," she added.
"Okay," Alaric agreed right away.
It felt like he'd agree to anything she said.
They snuggled for a bit longer.
Alaric was clearly not wanting to leave.
He suddenly lifted the blanket and climbed back into bed.
Cecilia was stunned, "What are you doing?"
"I decided to take a day off. I'll stay home and sleep with you all day," Alaric said.
"No way!" Cecilia urged, "Get to work, or people might think you're slacking."
Saying that, Cecilia tried to push Alaric with all her might.
Alaric lay there for a few seconds.
He took a deep breath and suddenly jumped out of bed.
The next second, he bolted out of the room.
Alaric didn't dare look back, afraid Cecilia might tempt him again.
Cecilia watched Alaric's retreating figure and couldn't help but laugh.
Her smile slowly turned a bit sad, because she didn't know how long it would take.
For them to finally stop living on edge.
Cecilia turned over, looking at the empty spot beside her.
She thought, once this was all over, she'd be with Alaric, together for a lifetime.
Cecilia slept until the afternoon.
After grabbing some takeout, she started texting Alaric.
Cecilia: [What time you getting off work tonight?]
Alaric: [I'll be home by 6.]
Cecilia: [Need me to grab groceries?]
Alaric: [Dress warmly. I'll send you a list, just follow it.]
Cecilia nodded.
Alaric: [Miss me?]
Cecilia: [Nope.]
Alaric: [I miss you.]
Cecilia's heart skipped a beat.
It felt like she had hurt the heart of an innocent boy.
She took a deep breath and decided to give Alaric a big surprise.
She pressed the voice button, and in a sweet tone, she said, "Honey, I miss you so much."
The moment she sent it, she blushed as red as a rose.
She couldn't imagine what Alaric's face would look like when he heard it.
Alaric didn't reply for a long time.
Just when Cecilia thought he wouldn't respond, she got a voice message from him.
Then she heard his deep, magnetic voice say, "Honey, wait for me to come home."
Cecilia kept replaying Alaric's voice message over and over.
The way he called her honey was so cheesy.
Yet, she couldn't help but be enchanted by the way he said it.
