Chapter 386 Cecilia Sets Another Trap
"Pretty slick move," the voice on the other end said, which was rare praise for Dominic. "But think about it, once Andrew gets nailed, can the Kingsley Group's plan still fly? If the Lockhart Group goes after it, they can totally snatch it back and block you from using it!"
Dominic clenched his jaw.
Right now, he couldn't see that far ahead.
"Anyway, figure it out yourself," the voice said, ice-cold. "I back you 'cause the Kingsley Group's got a huge estate. If they go down, I can't keep supporting you like before!"
"I'll handle it," Dominic promised.
"Dominic, don't let me down again!"
With that, the call ended abruptly.
Dominic slammed on the brakes and pulled over.
He called Nathaniel, "Dad."
"Dominic, where are you? I'm barely holding them off," Nathaniel sounded frantic. "The inspection team is here to nab Eloise and take her in for questioning. If you don't get here soon, she's gone."
"Let them take her," Dominic said flatly.
"Didn't you say you wanted to meet Eloise alone? What's with the sudden change? Aren't you worried..."
"Dad, Eloise has been ruthless, teaming up with Andrew to swipe the Lockhart Group's marketing plan. She doesn't deserve our pity. How she deals with the law is her problem; we shouldn't get involved," Dominic said firmly.
Nathaniel got the hint and said, "Alright, I won't stop them then."
Dominic nodded. "I'm not coming over either. Got a ton of stuff to handle at City Hall. I'll chat with the head of the planning department about the Innovation Arc project and fill you in later."
"Okay." Nathaniel trusted Dominic completely.
Dominic hung up, slammed on the brakes again, and made a U-turn.
The top priority now was to keep the Innovation Arc project on track.
He floored it, and the car zoomed down the street.
Dominic was fuming!
Cecilia got a call from Cassius.
"Dominic went to the Kingsley Group but turned back," Cassius said.
Cecilia's eyes narrowed.
"The inspection team nabbed Eloise. Looks like Dominic's not gonna make a move against her," Cassius concluded.
Cecilia was a bit surprised, thinking, 'Is Dominic that confident, or did he just get smarter?'
When Cassius called saying Dominic went to the Kingsley Group, she guessed what he was up to. But then he turned back. Who tipped him off?
Dominic, especially in a pinch, wasn't usually this sharp.
Who was backing him?
Who could give him such a big assist?
"What now? Should I keep tailing him?" Cassius asked.
"No need," Cecilia said flatly.
With Eloise arrested, Dominic couldn't mess with things under everyone's watchful eyes.
Clearly, he wasn't gonna take out Eloise.
Following him further would be a waste.
"I thought we'd finally take Dominic down this time," Cassius sighed.
He thought they had Dominic cornered.
As expected, Alaric said it wouldn't be that easy, and he was right.
"No sweat, we've got plenty of time," Cecilia's eyes narrowed. "I'll make sure he doesn't get what he wants this time."
"What are you planning?" Cassius asked.
"You'll see," Cecilia kept it vague.
"Quit being all mysterious," Cassius said.
"I just don't want you to get your hopes up for nothing, so I'm keeping it under wraps for now."
Cassius wasn't one to hold grudges.
"Alright, I'll wrap things up here," he said.
"Thanks for your help."
Cassius hung up.
Cecilia stared at her phone for a few seconds, then took a deep breath and dialed the internal line. "Rose, come in."
"Yes."
Rose knocked and entered. "Ms. Lockhart, what can I do for you?"
Rose now saw Cecilia as a powerhouse, someone she could only look up to.
"Get in touch with the planning department. We're heading over to discuss the Innovation Arc project," Cecilia instructed.
"Okay." Rose nodded quickly.
"Tell them I'm heading over now," Cecilia added.
"Now?" Rose asked, wondering if it was too sudden.
"Now," Cecilia confirmed.
"Do I need to prepare any materials?" Rose asked.
"No need." Cecilia stretched lazily. "We'll just go and talk."
"Okay." Rose nodded quickly, feeling a rush of excitement.
At that moment, Rose felt like Cecilia was going to single-handedly reclaim their project!
Rose quickly contacted the planning department and reported back, "The head of the planning department is available. We can go anytime today."
"Then let's go." Cecilia left the Lockhart Group with Rose.
Augustus drove them to their destination.
Walking into the planning department head's office, Cecilia saw Dominic.
He got there even faster than she expected.
Rose's face darkened when she saw Dominic inside.
Why was he here too?
With him here, how could they discuss the project?
At that moment, Cecilia's lips curled into a smile.
It was as if she was hoping Dominic would be there.
Could this be part of Cecilia's plan too?
"Mr. Ward," Cecilia stepped forward and warmly shook hands with the head of the planning department, Kai Ward.
Kai was equally enthusiastic. "Ms. Lockhart, please have a seat."
Cecilia sat across from Kai, next to Dominic.
Kai said, "I just got a call from Ms. Lockhart about discussing the Innovation Arc project. Coincidentally, Dominic is here too. I thought, since everyone is talking about the same project, why not discuss it together?"
"Of course," Cecilia remained calm.
Dominic glanced at Cecilia.
Seeing her cheerful demeanor, he really wanted to strangle her!
At this moment, Dominic could only put on a friendly face. "Cecilia is as magnanimous as ever."
Cecilia turned to look at Dominic. "Since the Innovation Arc project also concerns the Kingsley Group, I initially planned to discuss it with Mr. Ward first and then talk to the Kingsley family. Since Mr. Ward thinks it's better to discuss it together, I'll follow his lead."
Dominic's face changed slightly!
What did she mean by discussing with Kai first and then with him?
It seemed like today's situation was deliberately arranged by Cecilia.
She wanted to get everyone in the same room – him and the planning department.
