Chapter 159 Open Attacks Are Easy to Dodge, Hidden Ones are Harder

Cecilia got back to her office after assigning tasks and dove straight into work.

Next door, Juliana was fuming.

She'd heard about Cecilia's new Tower of Light project team but had no clue what it was about. She didn't know the tasks, the progress, or if Cecilia would actually pull it off. It felt like everything Cecilia touched turned to gold.

'No way,' Juliana thought. She couldn't let Cecilia succeed so easily.

She quickly called her dad, Vincent. "Dad."

"What now?" Vincent snapped, clearly in a bad mood.

"Cecilia's set up the Tower of Light team, and I'm not in it. I have no idea what she's planning. The team came back from a meeting all pumped up. I don't know what she told them, but they looked like they were on steroids," Juliana said, annoyed.

"Cecilia has changed a lot," Vincent said harshly.

"Exactly. She even made you lose face in the meeting this morning. The more I think about it, the angrier I get," Juliana said, trying to rile him up.

Vincent had been stewing since Cecilia contradicted him in the meeting. Juliana knew bringing it up would make him even angrier and more likely to go after Cecilia.

She couldn't let Cecilia keep sailing. Cecilia's progress was already too much.

"I'm not letting that bitch Cecilia get away with this!" Vincent spat.

He'd been fuming since the morning meeting, and Juliana's words made him want to slap Cecilia.

"Dad, what should we do now?" Juliana asked anxiously.

"Go to the sales department. Bribe a couple of people. Cecilia somehow replaced all my guys there. You need to win people over again and keep tabs on the project, even if you're not part of it," Vincent said, frustrated.

"Okay," Juliana agreed.

"Don't let Cecilia find out."

"Don't worry, Dad. I know what to do."

"I'll keep an eye on her and use my authority to create obstacles. I can't let her succeed with the Tower of Light project," Vincent said coldly.

"Absolutely. If she succeeds, it'll make it much harder to wrest control of the Lockhart Group from Theodore and hand it to Andrew."

Juliana was good at talking. She mentioned giving the company to Andrew to avoid Vincent suspecting her own ambitions.

"One day, Cecilia will leave in disgrace!"

"Yes," Juliana quickly agreed.

After hanging up, Juliana wore a grim expression. She wanted to see just how capable the new Cecilia really was.

Cecilia worked until 10 PM. After finishing the prep for the Tower of Light e-commerce platform and live-streaming sales, she finally realized how late it was and felt a bit exhausted.

She stretched and glanced at Augustus, who was still there without a word of complaint. "Sorry to keep you waiting," she said.

"Mrs. Whitaker, it's my duty," Augustus replied, always precise.

Cecilia was used to it.

She stretched again and picked up the landline. "Rose, can you ask Randy to come in?"

"Yes."

Randy knocked and entered.

Cecilia handed him a USB drive from her computer.

Randy looked puzzled. "Mrs. Whitaker?"

"This has the plan for the Tower of Light e-commerce platform. Besides me, you're the only one who knows about it."

Randy nodded, holding the USB drive.

"I'm giving it to you personally so you know if this plan leaks, it's on you. Got it?"

"Don't worry, I understand," Randy said sincerely.

"Open attacks are easy to dodge; hidden ones are harder. Be careful," Cecilia reminded him.

"I will be very cautious."

Cecilia nodded. "Starting tomorrow, you'll be in charge of implementing the Tower of Light e-commerce project. If you hit any snags, let me know immediately."

"Yes."

"It's late. Go home early."

"Okay," Randy said respectfully.

Cecilia grabbed her bag and left with Augustus.

In the car, Cecilia looked at the empty streets and realized how late it was.

She sighed and said to Augustus, "It must be tiring to follow me around."

She knew she'd be working late like this for a while.

"It's not too bad," Augustus replied seriously while driving. "Mr. Whitaker is often busy too."

Cecilia frowned. 'Isn't Alaric currently unemployed? Shouldn't he be free now? He hasn't even been going to work at the Whitaker Group.'

"What is Alaric busy with?" Cecilia asked.

Augustus seemed to realize he had said too much. "I'm sorry, Mrs. Whitaker, I can't answer that."

Cecilia was speechless. 'What the hell is Alaric up to? So mysterious.'

They soon arrived at the villa.

As soon as Cecilia walked into the hall, she saw George cleaning. It was so late, and George was still doing housework. In her memory, George was always busy, never stopping for a second. He didn't seem to find it tiring; he seemed to enjoy it.

Seeing her return, George quickly said warmly, "Mrs. Whitaker, I'll get you some tonic."

"Thank you," Cecilia smiled slightly, genuinely grateful.

A wave of memory washed over her, a vivid flashback to her life with Dominic, the nights spent waiting for him at home. Dominic often came home late, and she always believed he was busy with social engagements. She was very considerate and always waited for him, preparing soup for him herself. Waiting was cruel because she never knew how long it would take, sometimes all night.

Later, when she found out all her waiting was just for Dominic to finish having sex with other women, she wanted to kill herself. She felt so stupid and disrespected.

Even though George's situation was different, waiting was still tiring. So she was genuinely moved by George's dedication, whether it was because of Alaric or not.
