Chapter 520 Outburst (13) Alaric's Wit
Cecilia's heart was pounding.
She tried to keep it cool and smiled. "I didn't see any cameras at the door?"
"They're pretty well hidden," Peter chuckled. "Alaric helped me set them up. My house got robbed once, and all my cash was gone. Even after reporting it, the thief got away. So Alaric suggested I install a surveillance system. He said if it was too obvious, the thief would just destroy it. So he put in a hidden one, embedded in the wall. Come, check it out."
Peter led Cecilia to the front door and pointed to a tiny camera. "It's right here. Looks like a nameplate, but there's a small hole for the camera."
Cecilia only noticed the small hole after Peter pointed it out. It was nearly impossible to spot.
Did this mean the other party didn't know either?
Cecilia's heart raced even more.
She forced herself to stay calm and said, "Alaric really thought of everything. No one would ever guess there's a camera here."
"Yeah, he's a smart guy. He even warned me not to tell anyone because the last theft might have been done by someone nearby. Most thieves usually scout their targets in advance."
"That makes sense," Cecilia nodded.
For a moment, she even wondered if Alaric himself had done it just to help Peter install the surveillance.
Cecilia admired Alaric's cleverness.
He knew that if he installed anything in his own house, the other party would search thoroughly and find it. But they wouldn't consider the neighbors' houses as a threat. Even if they casually checked the surroundings, they wouldn't notice something so well hidden.
She lightly bit her lip and took Peter's phone, fiddling with it for a while.
Cecilia said, "Peter, this is my first time doing this, so it might take a bit."
"No rush. I don't have anything else to do anyway."
"Weren't you supposed to video call your granddaughter?"
"It's 8 PM, still early. I'm just anxious," Peter laughed awkwardly. "Cecilia, come in and have a seat. Take your time."
"Okay."
Cecilia and Peter went back into the room.
Cecilia sat on the couch, looking very focused.
Peter watched for a while but couldn't understand what she was doing. He said to Cecilia, "Take your time, Cecilia. I'll make some coffee."
"Thank you," Cecilia replied politely.
That was her plan all along.
The surveillance could be connected with just a button; it didn't need this much time.
She just wanted to avoid Peter's gaze and extract the previously stored videos.
But she didn't want Peter to know about it.
The less he knew, the less trouble there would be.
She didn't want to involve anyone else.
Cecilia's fingers kept working on the phone.
Peter made the coffee and set it down. It was just about time to make dinner, so he went to the kitchen.
Cecilia took some time to download the video.
Then she sent it to her own phone and deleted the records from Peter's phone.
After finishing everything, Cecilia stood up from the couch and walked to Peter. "Peter, it's done. You can now watch the surveillance videos on your phone."
"Great," Peter said enthusiastically. "Cecilia, stay for dinner."
"No, Peter, my husband is at home."
"You can invite your husband over too."
"Really, it's fine. Maybe next time." Cecilia smiled slightly. "My husband has a colleague over for dinner tonight."
"I see." Peter looked a bit disappointed. "Next time then, bring your husband along."
"Sure," Cecilia agreed and left Peter's house.
After leaving, Cecilia's body was trembling with suppressed emotion.
She walked into the elevator, leaning against the wall, clutching her phone tightly.
She really thought she had found the evidence and could hardly control herself.
Since Alaric had anticipated being framed, he wouldn't let the other party get away with it.
Cecilia returned to Augustus's car.
Augustus noticed Cecilia's unusual expression and quickly asked, "Mrs. Whitaker, what's wrong?"
"I think I've found evidence to clear Alaric of the embezzlement charges. Let's go back," Cecilia tried to stay calm.
She hadn't reviewed the video yet, but a quick glance at the screenshots revealed something suspicious.
Augustus was visibly surprised. "So quickly?"
He was actually prepared for not finding any evidence.
After all, things didn't seem optimistic based on the situation in the past few days.
Augustus didn't say much more.
He just drove faster, eager to see the evidence Cecilia had found.
They quickly returned to the private room at the nightclub.
Cecilia took out her phone and opened the video.
She had downloaded the footage starting from when Alaric left Harborvale.
She watched it at double speed.
Then Cecilia hit pause and quickly adjusted to normal speed.
On the second night after Alaric left, at 11 PM, two men dressed in black, wearing hats and masks, carried several large boxes and opened Alaric's front door. They stayed inside for about an hour and came out with the same boxes, but it was clear from their movements that the boxes were now empty.
Augustus was excited. "Mr. Whitaker was framed. These two men took advantage of his absence to transport the cash inside."
Cecilia nodded.
But it still didn't fully prove that the boxes contained money.
She zoomed in on the two men, observing their features.
They needed to find these two men to fully prove that Alaric was framed.
Cecilia meticulously noted down the features of the two men in black.
After finishing, she called Dashiell.
"Cecilia."
"I need your help," Cecilia said directly.
"Go ahead," Dashiell said seriously.
From Cecilia's tone, he could tell she had found something.
Cecilia said, "I found evidence that Alaric was framed, but it's not conclusive. On the night of December 5th, around 11 PM, two men broke into Alaric's house carrying several large boxes, likely filled with cash. But we can't see inside the boxes, so it doesn't fully prove it was money. We need to find them to testify. I suspect they are local to Harborvale, possibly part of the underground scene. I noticed one of them had a black koi tattoo on his wrist and a colorful tattoo on his neck, but the video quality isn't great."
