Chapter 441 Unrequited Love
After Seraphina finished reading the divorce papers, she looked up and saw Dashiell's cold back as he walked away.
She was still kinda pissed he didn't even bother to say goodbye.
Seraphina clenched her teeth and decided not to let it get to her.
She quickly followed him out.
Being quick on her feet, she zipped past Dashiell without a second glance.
Dashiell caught a glimpse of Seraphina's retreating figure.
It was a bit blurry, but he just sucked it up.
He got back into his car and drove off.
Driving with one foot? No biggie.
And now, thanks to this little delay, it was rush hour.
Dashiell's car crawled through the traffic.
From a distance, he saw Seraphina trying to flag down a cab, but they all just zoomed past her.
So Dashiell pulled up next to Seraphina, asking, "Need a ride?"
Seraphina thoughth, 'Seriously? He just walked off without a word, and now he's offering me a ride?'
She looked at Dashiell, staying silent. Dashiell seemed to smirk, or maybe she was just imagining it.
She hated him so much.
Now that she was free, why would she get close to him again?
It was rush hour, and he thought he could give her a lift since it was on the way.
Since she didn't accept, he wouldn't feel any guilt.
Then the window rolled back up, and he was about to drive off.
The car door suddenly opened, and Seraphina got in.
She had just thought it through; she couldn't punish herself for someone else's mistakes.
It was clearly hard to get a cab now.
Why should she torture herself because of a guy like Dashiell?
With that thought, she boldly got into the car.
After a second of surprise, Dashiell started the car and hit the highway.
"Why didn't you drive?" Dashiell asked in a calm tone.
Like they were back to before they got married.
Dashiell was always so cold to her.
If he hadn't chased her before, she might never have thought Dashiell liked her.
"I don't feel like driving," Seraphina looked out the window and answered slowly. "The last accident still freaks me out."
Dashiell nodded slightly.
He had guessed as much.
He said, "Going home?"
"Yeah." Seraphina replied. Then she quickly added, "I moved out to live alone."
Dashiell's grip on the steering wheel visibly tightened.
"I didn't want to live with my dad, so I moved out," Seraphina said. "By the way, we're divorced now, so I won't mess with your mom and my dad anymore."
It meant that Magnolia could be with Atticus now.
Dashiell fell silent.
After all, he didn't know if Magnolia would still be with Atticus.
"What's your new address?" Dashiell asked.
"Maple Grove Estates. Over on South Riverside Road," Seraphina answered.
"Okay." Dashiell nodded.
The car suddenly fell into silence.
It seemed like there was nothing more to say.
Seraphina's phone suddenly rang.
She glanced at the caller ID and quickly answered, "Sebastian."
As she answered, she couldn't help but glance at Dashiell, who showed no reaction.
"Is it done?" Sebastian asked.
"Yeah, I just left the court," Seraphina replied.
"I'll come pick you up," Sebastian said right away.
"No need," Seraphina shot back.
"I promised to give you a ride, but something came up. Now that it's handled, I'll come get you and we can go home for dinner," Sebastian insisted.
"I can get back myself." Seraphina smiled. "It's really congested here, you should head back early."
"Isn't it harder to get a cab in traffic?" Sebastian asked.
"Dashiell gave me a ride back," Seraphina said bluntly.
There was a noticeable two-second pause on the other end, then he said with a smile, "I'll go home and cook, see you soon."
"Okay." Seraphina nodded. "See you soon."
Seraphina hung up the phone.
The car was still super quiet.
Dashiell still showed no emotion.
He was just focused on driving.
Seraphina said, "Sebastian and I are back together."
Her tone had a hint of pride.
"That's good." Dashiell nodded.
After all he had done, he hadn't ruined her happiness.
At least, he hadn't made a complete mess of things.
"And you?" Seraphina suddenly asked. "Will you find a new girlfriend?"
Dashiell didn't answer.
"If you weren't so reserved, a lot of women would like you," Seraphina said sincerely.
Dashiell just listened.
"Actually, even though I really dislike Penelope, I can tell she genuinely likes you. Considering her looks and family background, you might want to think about it." Seraphina suggested.
"I'll consider it," Dashiell said calmly.
"Dashiell, we've had a lot of rough patches, from our parents' relationship to our forced marriage and messy divorce. But I hope, from now on, we can end all our grudges. I'll pursue my own happiness, and you should find someone to share a fulfilling life with. Don't remain alone."
Dashiell glanced at Seraphina, then focused back on driving, his voice still calm and indifferent. "I know how to live my life. I can live well alone, but I won't reject the idea of a woman coming into my life someday. I just want to tell you, while I'm still single, you don't need to feel any burden. I'm not staying single because of you; I just don't want to settle. And if I do get into a relationship, I'll be serious about it for a lifetime."
Seraphina pressed her lips together.
She had to admit, this was indeed Dashiell's character.
He would rather have nothing than settle for less.
Dashiell's self-discipline was truly remarkable.
"Is it here?" Dashiell asked as he crossed a street, referring to Seraphina's directions.
Also, he didn't want to discuss feelings, especially not with Seraphina.
"Yes. Turn left at the next intersection," Seraphina said.
"Okay." Dashiell nodded.
With that, no other topics were discussed.
The car arrived at Maple Grove Estates soon.
At the entrance, Sebastian was already waiting for her.
Seraphina opened the car door and ran out.
Without a word of goodbye or thanks, she quickly rushed into Sebastian's arms, looking so eager.
They embraced tightly.
This was what a loving couple should look like.
His love for Seraphina was always unrequited, leading only to heartache.
