Chapter 343 Cecilia is Moved by Alaric's Kindness

Cecilia took forever to chill out.

She kinda forgot that Alaric, the creep, had swiped her bodily fluids.

Her whole body ached as she dragged herself to wash up, change clothes, and slap on some makeup.

Going downstairs? That was the real nightmare.

Cecilia was shaking like a leaf, almost face-planting on the stairs.

But the second she spotted George, she played it cool.

She strutted to the dining table, trying to act all composed, waiting for breakfast.

As soon as she plopped down, George rushed over with breakfast.

"Cake?" Cecilia was kinda shocked.

Usually, George's breakfasts were all fancy, not just a piece of cake and some milk.

"Mr. Whitaker ordered it before he left," George explained quickly.

Cecilia suddenly remembered the cake they forgot last night.

They said they'd eat it later.

But there was no time. By the time they could, she was already out cold.

Cecilia was starving.

She skipped dinner last night and then had some... intense activities afterward.

Cecilia grabbed a spoon and started munching.

It was pretty tasty.

"George, did you make this cake?" she asked casually.

It didn't look store-bought.

She'd seen the cake's rough decorations last night, which didn't look like the fancy bakery stuff.

"No," George said quickly, "Mr. Whitaker made it himself."

Cecilia was a bit taken aback.

George went on, "Mr. Whitaker came back yesterday afternoon. Sorry, Mrs. Whitaker, I didn't mean to keep it from you."

"Don't worry about it," Cecilia smiled.

"After he got back, he decorated the room and made the cake. He did everything himself—baking, whipping the cream, decorating, the whole shebang."

"Alaric's got skills." It clearly wasn't his first rodeo.

She'd tried baking a cake once on a whim, and it was a disaster. So she knew he must do this often to get it right.

"After all, Mr. Whitaker..." George trailed off.

Cecilia, still eating, looked at George.

George smiled, "Anyway, Mr. Whitaker really went all out to surprise you last night."

Cecilia nodded, not denying it.

But she felt like George was holding something back.

She didn't push it, though.

If Alaric didn't spill, she wouldn't make it hard for others.

"By the way, what time did Alaric leave this morning?" Cecilia asked, switching gears.

"He left at 6 AM."

"Did you see him off?"

"Just to the door. Augustus drove him."

"Did he..." Cecilia hesitated.

"Mr. Whitaker must've hated leaving you," George jumped in.

That wasn't what she meant.

"Did he leave in a bad mood?" she clarified.

"No," George said quickly, "He was practically skipping down the stairs, taking two at a time. He was in a rush 'cause he was running late. Don't worry, Mrs. Whitaker, he'll take care of himself..."

She thought, 'Damn.'

'Alaric could even skip down the stairs.'

'So unfair.'

"Want more?" George asked, seeing Cecilia had finished a piece.

"No, I'm good."

Cecilia wiped her lips and got ready to head out for work.

"Mrs. Whitaker, hold up a sec," George called out.

Cecilia looked a bit confused.

George came back with a bowl of red liquid and set it in front of her. "This is electrolyte water. Mr. Whitaker insisted you drink it before work."

She thought, 'Is Alaric trying to drown me or what? It's way too early for this much water.'

"Mr. Whitaker said it helps replenish electrolytes," George added.

Just as Cecilia was about to refuse, George's words almost made her choke on her own spit.

She thought, 'Alaric is such an idiot. Who needs electrolytes after sex?'

"Mrs. Whitaker?" George watched, concerned, as her face cycled through a rainbow of emotions.

Cecilia picked up the electrolyte water and drank it.

Alaric was clueless, but it was kind of sweet how he tried to take care of her.

Cecilia finished the drink and headed to work, still taking Augustus's car.

"Did Alaric get on the plane?" she asked.

George had mentioned Augustus drove Alaric.

"Yeah, he boarded the 8:20 flight and went in at 7:30," Augustus replied.

Cecilia just nodded.

Augustus stayed quiet too. Seemed like Alaric didn't leave any special instructions.

They pulled up at the Lockhart Group.

Cecilia had just walked into her office when Rose followed her in. "The Innovation Arc construction project kickoff meeting is at 3 PM today at the Innovation Arc site. We've been invited. Mr. Lockhart's secretary said you should accompany Mr. Lockhart."

"Is it just an initiation?" Cecilia asked.

"No," Rose replied, "They'll announce the project bidding rules on-site. Lots of big and small companies from Serenovia City will be there. The planning bureau invited a wide range of people to keep it fair."

"Got it. Let Mr. Lockhart know I'll be with him this afternoon."

"Will do," Rose left.

Cecilia sat in her chair, not really feeling like doing much.

Her mind kept drifting to the Innovation Arc project.

She couldn't let the Kingsley family get any edge this time.

And then, she started thinking about Alaric.

He'd only be halfway through his flight by now.

She picked up her phone, then put it down again.

She couldn't reach him.

Cecilia took a deep breath.

No wonder people say not to date during school; it messes with your focus.

She was an adult, and she was losing it over a relationship. Imagine teenagers!

Cecilia forced herself to focus on work.

She couldn't stand being apart for half a day. If it were half a year, she'd be a wreck!

She opened her computer and tried to get through some work files.

At 1:20 PM, Cecilia was in Theodore's car, heading to the Innovation Arc site for the kickoff ceremony.

"What do you think of this project, Cecilia?" Theodore suddenly asked.

"The Lockhart Group has to nail this," Cecilia said bluntly.

"I checked it out today, and there's some serious competition," Theodore reminded her. "Don't take it lightly."

Cecilia nodded.

In her past life, she'd been too nice and handed all the benefits to the Kingsley family.

This time, she'd make sure they got nothing but a front-row seat to her success!
