Chapter 381 Arresting Andrew in Public
Andrew couldn't hide his joy.
Before, he would've never bought into Dominic's hype, but after seeing how Dominic handled Cecilia, he was all in on Dominic's skills.
So, Andrew was dead set on becoming the CEO of the Lockhart Group.
He suddenly jumped up from his seat, saying, "I wasn't good enough to snag the next role, and I never even thought about taking it."
He was making his stance clear.
Cecilia glanced at Andrew, thinking, 'Is he trained by Dominic? Retreating to advance.'
The more Andrew played it cool, the easier it was to trust him.
Hank quickly chimed in, "Andrew really let us down before, but after his dad's incident, he's grown up a lot, taken on more responsibility, and become way more mature and steady. He knows his place now and isn't aiming too high. With this kind of grounded attitude, he'll make it big one day."
"Thanks to Mr. Zeller's guidance." Andrew played the humble card.
Andrew scored more brownie points.
"Sit down. Keep working on yourself, and the board will notice your changes," Hank said earnestly.
"Yes." Andrew sat down, feeling super stoked inside.
You know, he hadn't gotten any praise in ages.
But now he was getting parise because of Cecilia's loss.
He gave all the credit to Dominic.
Luckily, he chose to trust Dominic despite his beef with him over Isadora.
Looking back now, Isadora's death was her own doing.
She must've tried to seduce Dominic.
Otherwise, someone as sharp as Dominic would never have been into a fool like Isadora.
A flicker of secret satisfaction crossed Andrew's face. Cecilia, with her keen eye, saw it all
Hank continued, "So, you can't judge a book by its cover. Everyone thought Cecilia was a dark horse when she joined the company, bringing in a lot of profits, but she couldn't handle setbacks at all. When things got tough, she just bailed. Someone like that will never achieve great things! On the other hand, Andrew, after going through a bunch of setbacks, knows how to strive and learn. Someone like that will definitely succeed one day!"
Cecilia didn't argue, staying silent.
Some board members nodded, while others just watched.
Hank stated firmly, "I won't say I'm a hundred percent sure, but I'm about eighty percent confident. From my years of judging people, I can tell you that Andrew's future prospects are definitely better than Cecilia's!"
Cecilia just looked at Hank.
She didn't suspect Hank and Dominic of colluding. Dominic wasn't in a rush for quick success. After all, if the collusion failed, he'd expose himself. Dominic was never stupid. The setbacks he faced before were mostly due to his arrogance. Once he faced reality, this guy wasn't easy to deal with.
Now, Hank was deliberately attacking her because he was pissed about the big project she lost and was venting his frustration.
He was using Andrew to undermine her.
Hank just needed a reasonable excuse to vent, but Andrew seemed to have taken it to heart.
"Alright, let's cut to the chase," Hank said bluntly. "About this project flop, there's no way I'm backing Cecilia for the VP spot at Lockhart Group. She just doesn't have what it takes. This role has always been filled by someone from the Lockhart family, but times change. Right now, no one from the Lockhart family can handle it. My suggestion? We hire from outside."
"I second that," another board member chimed in.
"Me too. We can't let the Lockhart Group go down the drain just because the family members can't hack it!"
"Yeah, we can't waste the company's resources!"
The meeting room buzzed with noise.
Hank was stirring the pot, and things were getting heated.
Theodore looked like he was about to blow a gasket.
Just as he was about to lose it, Cecilia stood up, saying, "I disagree."
She was firm, almost defiant.
"Why? You think being Mr. Theodore Lockhart's daughter gives you a free pass..."
"You've had your say, now it's my turn," Cecilia cut in, giving a sharp look.
The board member hesitated under her gaze.
After all, she was still Theodore Lockhart's daughter, and they couldn't push her too far.
"The reason I disagree is that the project's failure wasn't on me. I used the best plan, nailed the quote, and did everything right!" Cecilia said, enunciating each word. "If there's a problem..."
"If you did everything right, then whose fault is it? The other party for being too good? The Kingsley family for being too powerful?" Hank shot back, his voice booming.
"Can you let me finish?" Cecilia snapped.
"Don't bother with excuses! You can't even admit your mistakes, let alone lead the Lockhart Group. I'd rather back Andrew than you!"
"Andrew?" Cecilia chuckled, her smile dripping with sarcasm.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Hank's face twisted in anger. "You look down on Andrew, but do you even have the right to? At least Andrew has the humility to work hard and learn from his mistakes, but you? You're just arrogant and conceited!"
"Do you really think Andrew is more fit for the VP role at Lockhart Group?" Cecilia asked.
"He's definitely more fit than you. My stance is clear: either we hire externally, or Andrew gets the job. I won't accept you as VP." With that, Hank turned and stormed out.
He didn't care about saving her face, acting all high and mighty.
He was hell-bent on taking Cecilia down.
Cecilia just watched him leave, her eyes following him as he opened the meeting room door.
Suddenly, three men in uniforms appeared. "We're from the Serenovia City prosecutor's office. Here's my ID, and this is our arrest warrant. We're here to arrest Andrew!"
Everyone, including Hank, was stunned.
"He's suspected of leaking commercial secrets, and we need to detain him for investigation."
With that, they walked straight into the room and approached Andrew. "Andrew, please come with us for investigation."
Andrew was in total shock.
He stared blankly at the prosecutors.
He had no clue what he had done to get arrested.
