Chapter 465 The Game (10) Caught Red-Handed

When Cecilia got Dashiell's call, she was chillin' on the toilet, feeling all kinds of down.

Her period was back. Again.

Seriously, why?

In her past life, getting knocked up was a nightmare thanks to years of birth control.

Now, whose fault was it?

She picked up the phone, her voice kinda weak, "Dashiell."

"Someone from the Kingsley Family just hit up Everhart Bank."

"Probably about a loan," Cecilia guessed.

"Yep," Dashiell confirmed. "They snagged a billion-dollar loan for six months."

"What'd they put up as collateral?" Cecilia asked.

"Real estate."

"Where's the property?" she pressed.

"Crystal Lagoon Isle."

"It's bogus," Cecilia shot back.

Back in the day, the Lockhart Group's fancy pads on Crystal Lagoon Isle were hot stuff, and everyone in the elite crowd had one.

Even rich folks from outta town were snapping them up, either as investments or swanky villas; it was the thing to do.

But the Kingsley Family? They didn't buy one.

She remembered Penelope was all about it and wanted one bad.

But the Kingsleys were broke, so they passed.

So now, Cecilia was sure the property certificate was a fake.

"I'll dig up a copy of the loan docs Dominic handled this time," Dashiell said.

"Be careful, don't tip them off," Cecilia warned.

"Got it."

"Why are you grinding on a Saturday?" Cecilia asked.

"Nothing better to do at home."

"Really?" Cecilia shot back.

"What else?"

"Nothing. Just keep at it." Cecilia grinned.

Dashiell chuckled softly.

After hanging up, Cecilia got off the toilet.

She swapped into fresh undies and slapped on a pad.

She flopped onto the bed, feeling totally hopeless.

Then she grabbed her phone to text Alaric.

[I got my period.]

It took him like five minutes to reply: [Okay.]

He probably had no clue what to say.

[Don't sweat it, I'll try harder next time.] Alaric texted back. [And I'll be back next month, so we’ll have more time to prep for a baby.]

[Alaric.] Cecilia's message hinted she had more to say.

Alaric called right away, "What's up?"

Cecilia bit her lip.

It took her a while to speak, "Why don't you get checked out?"

Alaric felt uneasy.

Cecilia said, "I'm not doubting you, but I think it's smart to check. I heard too much fooling around in the past can mess with fertility."

Alaric was speechless.

He said, "Mrs. Whitaker, I'm clean."

"I know you've been loyal since we tied the knot, but before that counts too," Cecilia shot back. "Anyway, it's better to check. If there's an issue, we can fix it."

"You're so sure it's my problem?" Alaric asked.

Guys can be touchy about this stuff.

"I'm sure it's not my problem," Cecilia said firmly.

In her past life, she couldn't get pregnant, so she had a bunch of check-ups.

Every single one came back normal.

So, she was sure she was fine.

And if she was fine, the only one who could have a problem was Alaric.

"When you come back next time, I'll go with you," Cecilia said in a tone that left no room for argument.

"Okay," Alaric agreed.

Since Cecilia wanted a check-up, he'd prove it to her.

"Fine. I need to crash for a bit," Cecilia said weakly. "I've got something big coming up in a couple of days, so I need to rest."

"Did you dig up anything on Dominic?" Alaric asked.

"Depends on Dashiell," Cecilia said confidently. "But I know he's got this."

"Guess I'll just sit back and enjoy the show," Alaric chuckled.

"What?" Cecilia frowned.

"You taking down an enemy for me, isn't that a win?" Alaric said with a grin.

Dominic and Alaric were sworn enemies.

Who would've thought she'd come back to life and end up married to Alaric, the nemesis of that jerk Dominic!

Monday rolled around.

Cecilia got the fund from the Kingsley Group.

Dominic even called her up, saying, "Cecilia, keep the money safe!"

"Don't act like it's for me. I'll send all the financials to your company and Mr. Tackett," Cecilia distanced herself.

Dominic was just flexing.

"Didn't you always doubt the Kingsley Group could cough up the cash? Cecilia, do you really think we're in deep trouble now? What a joke! Not just a billion, even if it were another billion, we could still invest," Dominic bragged.

Cecilia smirked.

The prouder Dominic was now, the harder he'd fall later.

She didn't waste words on him.

She threw herself into the international e-commerce project.

She had two weeks to set up international channels for online shopping and then kick off promotions to reel in users.

Cecilia finished assigning the e-commerce tasks.

Back in the office, Rose followed her and couldn't help but say, "Ms. Lockhart, you're busting your butt on this e-commerce project for the Kingsley Group. Sure, all the credit is ours now, and if we nail it, it'll boost our rep big time. But really, we're lining the Kingsley Group's pockets. Even though they're getting trashed by everyone, they'll end up the winners. Once the e-commerce project takes off, most of the profits will go to them! With such a big beef between us and the Kingsley Group, Ms. Lockhart, do you really want to help them out like this?"

"I'm not helping them," Cecilia said to Rose. "I'm doing it for myself."

Rose was totally confused.

Clearly, the profits would go to the Kingsley Group and Bill, and the Lockhart Group would only get a tenth.

"Just follow my lead," Cecilia didn't explain much, switching gears. "How much has the project cost so far?"

"About 600 million dollars," Rose replied. "Next week, we need to prepay over 200 million dollars, and in the end, we'll only have about 100 million dollars left for working capital."

"Give me the financial report, and if everything checks out, send a copy to the Kingsley Group and the Tackett Group. Make sure to get their stamped confirmation," Cecilia ordered.

"Okay." Rose nodded.

"Go ahead."

"Yes." Rose left.

Cecilia flipped through the documents in her hand, then called Dashiell, "Did you get the copies?"

"Yep," Dashiell replied.

"Stick to our original plan, go talk to Sebastian first," Cecilia said.

"Got it."

"Before you talk, think it through," Cecilia reminded. "Think carefully about whether you want to let Sebastian off the hook?"
