Chapter 556 Quarrel
The sedan pulled up at FlavorFusion Bistro, and Sebastian and Seraphina headed to their seats. While Seraphina was busy checking out the menu, Sebastian's eyes started to wander.
"Sebastian, do you like tomahawk steak or ribeye better?" she asked.
"Seraphina," Sebastian said, nodding towards something. She followed his gaze and saw Dashiell and Penelope making their way to a nearby table.
Dashiell was being all gentlemanly, pulling out a chair for Penelope, who looked super elegant and happy.
Seraphina went back to studying the menu.
Sebastian turned his attention back too, murmuring, "Didn't think we'd see them here."
Seraphina replied, "Serenovia City is smaller than it seems."
"Yeah," Sebastian agreed. "Are Dashiell and Penelope really a thing?"
"Beats me," Seraphina said with a hint of sarcasm.
Last time when she asked Dashiell, he claimed they were just friends. Clearly, that was a lie.
From that brief look, it was obvious Penelope was head over heels for Dashiell.
But Seraphina didn't care; she had no ties to Dashiell, so who he dated or whether he lied didn't matter to her.
"I'll go with the ribeye," Sebastian said, sensing Seraphina's indifference and switching the subject.
They continued chatting and laughing.
At the other table, Penelope had noticed Seraphina and Sebastian the moment she walked in, and her eyes kept drifting their way.
Dashiell noticed too. Sometimes, the least wanted person would just appear before one's eyes unexpectedly.
"When are they getting married?" Penelope suddenly asked.
Dashiell, still looking at the menu, replied, "That's their business."
"Doesn't it bug you?" Penelope pressed.
"No," Dashiell said.
"You didn't bring me here just to show off to them, did you?" Penelope asked.
Dashiell's throat tightened; running into Seraphina and Sebastian was pure coincidence.
But if he needed an excuse, he didn't mind being misunderstood.
"Still hung up on Seraphina?" Penelope's emotions were clearly stirred.
Dashiell replied, "I just don't want them to think I'm a joke."
"So you want a girlfriend to show Seraphina you're over her," Penelope said.
Dashiell stayed silent.
"I'm game," Penelope said eagerly. "Even if you're using me, I don't care."
Dashiell looked at her, seeing her sincerity and eagerness, and said, "Let's order first."
"Dashiell, no matter the reason, if you want to date me, I'm in," Penelope said firmly.
But Dashiell kept quiet.
Penelope knew she couldn't force him, but she believed that, given time, he'd see her worth and fall for her. She could wait forever.
Dashiell and Penelope then fell silent, a stark contrast to Seraphina and Sebastian's lively conversation.
When Seraphina got up to go to the restroom, Penelope suddenly grabbed Dashiell's hand.
As his fingers twitched and he was about to pull away, Penelope tightened her grip and said, "I want to try the black truffle caviar in your bowl."
Seraphina's eyes flickered with irritation at Penelope's overly sweet tone, which gave her goosebumps.
Dashiell couldn't possibly be into a woman like that, right?
She glanced back and was shocked to see Dashiell actually feeding Penelope the black truffle caviar with his fork.
Feeling nauseated and disgusted, Seraphina quickened her pace and left.
Penelope's smile widened with satisfaction. "I'll be right back; just need to use the restroom," she said.
It was obvious what she was really up to.
Yet Dashiell didn't stop her. He sat at the table, watching as Sebastian approached.
"Was that on purpose?" Sebastian asked, his tone icy.
Dashiell glanced at him, not responding.
"Trying to make Seraphina jealous?" Sebastian sneered, with a hint of sarcasm.
Dashiell said, "Are you feeling insecure?"
Sebastian's expression hardened.
Dashiell added, "So you think Seraphina would be jealous?"
Sebastian responded, "I'm just giving you a heads-up: don't try any tricks. Seraphina isn't into you."
"Don't worry." Dashiell stood up. He had a rather delicate and refined appearance, though his face alone didn't suggest he stood over six feet tall.
Once he stood up, though, his impressive height made it clear. He towered over most men around, especially Sebastian.
Dashiell continued, "If I were still interested in Seraphina, I wouldn't have chosen to divorce her. But one thing I must remind you. As long as you don't let go of Everhart Bank's shares, you can't make love with Seraphina. Over time, do you think Seraphina will still admire you?"
"You!" Sebastian's face changed instantly.
"Even patience has its limits when it comes to love," Dashiell remarked before walking away toward the restroom.
Sebastian watched his back, trembling with anger.
Dashiell was clearly after control of Everhart Bank.
Yet Sebastian would never let Dashiell succeed!
Meanwhile, in the ladies' room, as Seraphina walked out, she saw Penelope waiting by the large mirror at the sink.
"Do you need something?" she asked, her tone far from pleasant.
Penelope replied, "Nothing, just wanted to let you know that I'm dating Dashiell."
"What does that have to do with me?" Seraphina's face darkened.
"Nothing," Penelope said smugly, "just showing off."
"What's there to show off?" Seraphina sneered. "He's just a man I don't want."
Penelope was furious. "You!"
"You're the only one who thinks Dashiell is a treasure," Seraphina said disdainfully.
"True," Penelope chuckled. "Someone like you, who would give up Dashiell for the likes of Sebastian, wouldn't understand my joy."
Seraphina glared at Penelope, fully aware that she was mocking Sebastian.
"I can't imagine how stupid you have to be to like Sebastian," Penelope continued to mock. "But it's fine. If you weren't so foolish, I wouldn't be dating Dashiell. I should thank you."
"You're the stupid one!" Seraphina snapped, clearly enraged. "Besides his looks, what's so great about Dashiell? He's boring and cold. Being with him is pure misery!"
