Chapter 506 Subtle Changes in Emotions
The nurse followed Seraphina's gaze, gave a gentle smile, and said, "Dr. Nelson saw two patients with high fevers today—one was you, and the other was the gentleman inside. Both of you hit 104 degrees Fahrenheit. With the flu going around and the sudden cold snap, it's easy to get sick if you're not careful."
Seraphina pursed her lips. She thought she was the only one with a weak constitution. Turned out, Dashiell wasn't doing any better.
She walked past his room and headed to the VIP room next door to lie down. The nurse gave her some meds and hooked her up to an IV. Seraphina had been afraid of pain since she was a kid. Even getting an IV could make her scream in agony.
Dashiell's hand, which was typing on the keyboard, suddenly paused. Then, he continued as if nothing had happened.
Seraphina lay in bed, bored out of her mind, unable to sleep. She had no interest in watching TV or looking at her phone, and her head hurt a lot, feeling weak and miserable in bed. She always regretted it afterward.
She sighed deeply and was about to call Cecilia when the phone suddenly rang. Seraphina glanced at the ID and answered, "Sebastian."
"Did you go to the hospital?" Sebastian asked.
"Yeah, I'm already on an IV."
"I've taken care of work stuff. I'll be there soon."
"No need."
"Don't say anything, I'm coming to be with you." Sebastian was very determined.
Seraphina ultimately chose to remain silent.
Half an hour later, Sebastian walked into Seraphina's lounge. He looked at Seraphina, clearly distressed. "I'm sorry, Seraphina, it's all my fault. If I hadn't left you, then..."
"Let's not talk about yesterday," Seraphina interrupted him. "After all, it was your birthday yesterday, and I respect your choice."
Sebastian seemed to swallow the words he was about to say. He held Seraphina's hand and said, "Seraphina, give me some time. Trust me, okay?"
"Okay." Seraphina nodded. She had never really doubted Sebastian. She just sometimes couldn't understand his thoughts.
"Sebastian, I'm a bit tired. I want to sleep for a while," Seraphina changed the subject.
"Go ahead and sleep, I'll stay by your side," Sebastian said softly.
"Okay."
Sebastian helped her lie down. Seeing that she was wearing thick clothes, he quickly said, "Take off your clothes before you sleep. It's warm here, and with the blanket, wearing too much will make you sweat and worsen your cold."
Seraphina nodded, but thinking of the marks on her neck, she suddenly refused. Once she took them off, everything would be visible. She quickly said, "No need, I'm afraid of the cold when I have a fever."
Sebastian didn't force her and helped her lie down like that. Seraphina thought she wouldn't be able to sleep. But with her eyes closed, she eventually fell asleep in a daze.
After falling asleep, she did feel a bit hot. She unconsciously tugged at her clothes. Sebastian noticed the sweat on Seraphina's forehead and bent down to help her take off her clothes. As he unbuttoned her thick clothes, he saw the marks on Seraphina's neck, very obvious on her delicate skin.
Sebastian's face instantly changed. His hand, which was unbuttoning her clothes, unconsciously clenched into a fist.
They hadn't done anything last night, so his pent-up anger was burning like crazy. Last night, he hadn't felt any better than Seraphina. If it weren't for the shares in his hand, how could he have refused her? He truly hated it!
Seeing the marks on Seraphina's body now, he could only endure it. He couldn't ruin his relationship with Seraphina; he still needed her to get Everhart Bank. But he was still a man. He had to admit that he truly loved Seraphina. Seeing the marks left by another man on her, he was furious and mad.
His twisted expression lasted for a long time. He eventually put Seraphina's clothes back on. Then, he suppressed and diluted his anger.
Seraphina woke up when Sebastian called her. He informed her that the IV was finished and she could go home. She realized the IV was removed, and Sebastian was pressing on the spot where the needle had been.
"What time is it now?" Seraphina asked.
"It's afternoon. You must be hungry. I'll take you to eat," Sebastian said gently, seeming completely normal.
Seraphina was quite startled. She had slept until the afternoon. But then again, she hadn't slept much the previous night, her mind filled with images of being with Dashiell.
She left the lounge with Sebastian. As they passed the room next door, Seraphina habitually glanced inside. That glance made her suddenly shocked. Sebastian saw it too. He saw Dashiell half-leaning against the headboard, his IV finished, and blood flowing back into the tube.
Seraphina rushed in without hesitation, waking Dashiell, "Wake up, your IV drip's all done."
Dashiell opened his eyes, looking at Seraphina, whose face was pale, and then glanced at his IV.
After finishing his work, he had lain down for a while. Not wanting to be disturbed, he had told the nurses and aides not to stay in the room and said he would press the call button when the IV was done. But he had fallen asleep.
Ignoring Seraphina's agitation, Dashiell calmly pressed the button and said, "The IV is finished, and there's some blood backflow."
"Okay, we'll be right there."
Soon, the nurse hurried over. She quickly dealt with Dashiell's blood backflow, while Seraphina waited anxiously nearby. Sebastian was also there. His eyes coldly watched Seraphina and Dashiell because he saw the marks on Dashiell's neck. Sebastian clenched his fist tightly.
The nurse quickly finished dealing with Dashiell's IV and kept apologizing. Dashiell didn't mind. He got up from the bed, picked up the scarf and coat on the bed, put them on, and left with his laptop. From beginning to end, he didn't say a word to Seraphina, not even a glance. His attitude towards Seraphina was colder than towards the nurse, which made her feel a bit uncomfortable.
Watching Dashiell's back, she really felt like he might as well have died from the blood backflow. She was simply meddling.
"Let's go." Sebastian wrapped his arm around Seraphina. Seraphina seemed to realize that Sebastian was still by her side. Her eyes moved slightly.
"He won't appreciate it." Sebastian smiled, his tone sounding gentle.
Seraphina's throat moved slightly and she suddenly felt a bit confused.
Had her feelings for Dashiell and Sebastian changed?
