Chapter 177 Alaric Mocks Dominic
Alaric laughed again, this time with a sarcastic edge. Dominic's words seemed like the funniest joke to him, dripping with disdain. He didn't just find them amusing; he found them pathetic.
Dominic noticed Alaric's change in expression and his face darkened. "Alaric, one day you'll understand how foolish it is to let a woman outshine you."
"Only the weak think like that," Alaric shot back, finally locking eyes with Dominic.
Dominic's face grew even darker.
"Insecure people fear others' success," Alaric continued, "while truly great people help others excel."
Dominic looked like he wanted to argue.
"I'm happy to see her shine," Alaric added. "No matter how amazing Cecilia is, I'm confident I can match her!"
Dominic's face twisted at Alaric's words. Alaric was basically calling him insecure, implying he was scared of being outshone by Cecilia. But Alaric, confident in his own abilities, had no such fears. He wanted to show Dominic he was out of his league.
Dominic couldn't accept this. Alaric was just a womanizing playboy. How could he think he was better than him? Dominic believed Alaric would regret his arrogance one day.
If Dominic's target was just the Lockhart Group before, now he aimed for the Whitaker Group too, thanks to Alaric's arrogance. He stood up, threw out a "We'll see about that!" and stormed off, with Penelope following.
Penelope couldn't stand seeing Cecilia so untouchable. Cecilia, who had been tricked by Dominic before, now seemed to be in the spotlight. Penelope couldn't accept it and had to leave, cursing Cecilia under her breath.
As they left, Alaric raised his hand. Cassius, who had been shocked by Cecilia's sudden reveal, noticed and walked over. He bent down to hear Alaric's whisper.
"Keep an eye on Dominic. Find out who's backing him," Alaric said.
Cassius nodded, understanding. Dominic was likely driven mad by tonight's events. When people are pushed, they get reckless. Dominic wouldn't be able to stand seeing Cecilia succeed and would surely make a move. When he did, he'd slip up.
Cassius got the message and went to make arrangements.
Alaric's attention drifted back to the stage. Cecilia looked stunning, and he wondered how long he could stand just watching her without wanting more. He couldn't take his eyes off her as she smiled enchantingly, standing center stage, surrounded by models and the head of Harmony Threads. She gave a slight bow, and the audience erupted in applause.
The product launch ended on a high note, thanks to Cecilia. She and the Harmony Threads team headed backstage, while the audience began to leave. Cecilia chatted with Gailo for a bit, discussing Harmony Threads moving into The Tower of Light. There wasn't much to discuss, though; Gailo had already agreed, with the condition that Cecilia attend the launch as a designer.
The first time Cecilia's design got accepted by The Harmony Threads, she was only 16. In fear of being judged for her age, she hid her identity. As her designs gained popularity, they wanted to meet her, but she kept her identity secret because Dominic didn't approve. He wanted her to be a devoted wife, focused solely on him. At the time, she thought his possessiveness was a sign of deep love. Now, she saw it as fear—fear that she would outshine him and take over the Lockhart Group.
She vowed never to be that naive again. When Gailo requested her presence at the launch, she agreed without hesitation. She wouldn't bend for anyone anymore. From the moment she decided to change, she refused to compromise.
Cecilia walked out of the exhibition hall and saw a familiar car parked outside. Alaric stood beside it, leaning on a cane. They faced each other, and she stopped in her tracks. Dominic had always been afraid of her success, trying to keep her mediocre. She wondered if all men were like that, unable to handle a successful woman. What a pathetic mindset.
"Cecilia, my leg's not great," Alaric suddenly said.
Her eyes flickered.
"So, I can't walk over to hug you."
