Chapter 647 Seraphina Stumbles Upon Sebastian's Conspiracy
After the news hit, it didn't really make waves; people online just skimmed over it. But inside Everhart Bank, it was a different story.
With the news out there, no one knew how the higher-ups would react.
Given the situation, it was clear Dashiell's original plans were toast. The big question was whether Everhart Bank would ditch Dashiell over some outside gossip.
Dashiell, the guy at the center of it all, seemed totally clueless. He even clocked out on time, strolling out calmly while everyone at Everhart Bank watched.
People were buzzing about Dashiell.
No one had a clue what was going on in his head.
Logically, shouldn't Dashiell be trying to make a good impression?
At least give the bosses a reason to keep him around.
Since Seraphina wasn't in a high position, she joined a few work groups to see what folks were saying about Dashiell.
Most of the comments were positive, with many expressing regret over his potential dismissal.
Naturally, most of these comments came from women.
Seraphina figured they were probably swayed by Dashiell's looks.
But she had to admit, from a fair standpoint, if Dashiell got the boot, it would be a shame.
She always felt Atticus wouldn't be dumb enough to really fire Dashiell. Dashiell probably knew this too, so he wasn't worried.
Seraphina mulled over some things and noticed it was time to leave work.
She texted Sebastian: [I'm off work. Want to leave together?]
This had been their routine for the past couple of weeks.
"Plain" was an understatement.
There was no spark left between them.
Sebastian: [Working late tonight. Be careful on your way home. I'll bring you a snack later.]
Seraphina: [Talk to you tonight. Take care.]
Sebastian: [Okay.]
With that, Seraphina shut down her computer and left.
Sitting in her car, she felt super bored.
What was she going to do, leaving work so early?
Looking out the window, she saw the sun was still up and realized she'd be eating dinner alone again.
She picked up her phone and said, "Cecilia, want to grab dinner tonight?"
Cecilia replied, "Can't tonight."
Seraphina asked, "Working late?"
Cecilia responded, "No."
Seraphina pressed, "Then why are you ditching me?"
Cecilia said, "It's Alaric's birthday. I'm having dinner with him."
"I want to join," Seraphina said immediately.
"No." Cecilia shot back without hesitation.
"Cecilia!" Seraphina was pissed.
Cecilia remarked, "It's not a good time tonight."
"We're not friends anymore, are we?" Seraphina fumed.
Cecilia said, "Come over tomorrow. I'll have George make your favorite dishes."
"Friendship over." With that, Seraphina hung up abruptly.
She was really mad.
Cecilia ditched her for Alaric.
Seraphina felt like the whole world was leaving her behind.
She thought for a moment and dialed another number. "Dad."
"Seraphina?" Atticus rarely got calls from her.
Seraphina said, "I'm coming home for dinner tonight. Have the chef make something I like."
"I'm not home tonight," Atticus said flatly.
"Not home?" Seraphina frowned."I've got dinner plans with Magnolia," Atticus said. "But if you're coming home, I'll have the chef whip up some extra dishes..."
"No need," Seraphina shot back.
So everyone had plans, and she was the only one left hanging.
Seraphina hung up the phone, fuming.
She was really ticked off.
"Ms. Everhart, where to now?" the driver asked, a bit nervously.
"Back to Everhart Bank, to work overtime!" Seraphina snapped.
The driver thought this was odd but turned the car around.
Truth was, Seraphina just wanted to wait for Sebastian to finish work.
She always felt too lonely when she was by herself.
Back at Everhart Bank, Seraphina headed straight to Sebastian's office.
She didn't even bother knocking.
She just barged right in.
As soon as she entered, she heard Sebastian talking. "If we apply a little pressure, Dashiell will definitely step down as General Manager of Everhart Bank voluntarily..."
At that moment, Sebastian noticed Seraphina standing at the door.
Seraphina was caught off guard and locked eyes with Sebastian.
Several high-level directors were in the office with Sebastian, including Jeffrey, who had brought up Dashiell's promise earlier today.
A few people were sitting on the sofa in Sebastian's office, clearly discussing something important.
"Seraphina, why are you back?" Sebastian quickly changed his expression, acting like he hadn't just said what he did. "Didn't you leave already?" he asked.
"I felt bored alone, so I came back to wait for you to finish work. You look busy, so I won't disturb you," Seraphina said, closing the door.
She walked to her own office.
Her mind kept replaying what Sebastian had just said.
Sebastian wanted to get rid of Dashiell.
Seraphina had always thought Sebastian's behavior in the meeting today was him being gracious.
To outsiders, and even to Seraphina, it seemed like Dashiell had taken over Sebastian's position.
A knock on the office door snapped Seraphina back to reality. "Come in," she called out, and Sebastian entered her office. She forced a smile and said, "You don't have to worry about me; I can manage on my own."
"Since you're back, I can't focus on work. Besides, we already finished discussing everything, so we can leave now," Sebastian said calmly.
Seraphina nodded.
"What do you want to eat tonight? If you want to eat at home, we can go grocery shopping, and I'll cook. If you want to eat out, I'll make a reservation," Sebastian asked, sounding considerate.
"Sebastian." Seraphina finally couldn't hold back.
"What's wrong?" Sebastian looked calm.
Seraphina wore her emotions on her sleeve and voiced her doubts. "Do you want Dashiell to leave Everhart Bank?"
"Yes." Sebastian gave her a straight answer.
Seraphina's heart skipped a beat. "But in the meeting today..."
"I was pretending," Sebastian admitted bluntly.
Seraphina bit her lip.
Sebastian continued, "Seraphina, I didn't want to tell you a lot of things because I didn't want you to worry. But now, I think I need to explain everything clearly. I don't want Dashiell to come between us."
Seraphina didn't know what Sebastian was going to say, but she felt a deep sense of unease.
Yet she chose to stay quiet, listening to Sebastian's explanation.
Sebastian remarked, "Dashiell's intentions for joining Everhart Bank were never pure. He just wanted to take over the bank. I used to own twenty percent of Everhart Bank's shares. Now, Dashiell has taken all of them through underhanded means!"
