Chapter 799 A Long War

In the room.

Alaric was visibly stunned for a second.

The excitement he felt a moment ago was now in stark contrast to his current state.

His throat moved.

Cecilia still wanted him to leave.

She didn't want to compromise herself any further.

Before he could speak.

He heard Cecilia say, "You have so many things to do, there's really no need for you to stay here. I won't leave. I'll stay here obediently, take care of myself and the baby. You shouldn't waste too much time on me."

"Juniper is right, you're the president of a country, and you are responsible for the lives and destinies of many people. I was too willful before, but after thinking it through, I realized that what I did was a bit too childish."

Alaric looked at Cecilia, surprised that she would say such things.

It seemed like heartfelt words, not just empty platitudes to brush him off.

"So go back and handle your work, then come back. I won't feel neglected. I hope you can bear the responsibilities of a president." Cecilia said, with a smile on her lips.

It seemed like she was encouraging him.

Alaric's emotions surged like a stormy sea, and he nodded, "Okay."

Cecilia smiled again.

A smile he hadn't seen in a long time, which almost made Alaric lose himself in that moment.

She said, "Then hurry up and sleep, tomorrow's flight will be tiring."

"Okay."

Cecilia put down the parenting book and lay down.

Alaric also lay down.

The room was dimly lit, creating a cozy atmosphere.

The two people on the big bed.

Originally maintaining a certain distance, Alaric suddenly moved his body.

Cecilia pursed her lips and chose to remain silent.

Alaric moved closer to Cecilia.

His presence lingered.

Cecilia still chose to remain silent.

Alaric tentatively put his arm around her.

Cecilia still remained silent.

Alaric then pulled Cecilia into his embrace.

In the afternoon, after Cecilia fell asleep, he couldn't help but hold her. This time, while Cecilia was awake, he mustered the courage to pull her into his arms.

It seemed like holding her was the only thing that could bring him peace.

It seemed like holding her was the only thing that made him feel that Cecilia was still by his side, that he was still in Cecilia's heart.

Cecilia leaned against his chest, listening to his somewhat rapid heartbeat.

She closed her eyes, forcing herself to sleep.

"Cecilia, I love you," Alaric whispered in her ear.

Cecilia pressed her lips tightly together.

She would rather he hadn't said anything.

She couldn't bear the word "love."

Cecilia didn't respond.

Alaric knew Cecilia wouldn't respond.

He just held her tightly.

The two of them fell asleep quietly.

The next morning when she woke up.

Alaric had already left.

It was as if they had returned to the old days when Alaric would always leave quietly in the morning, afraid of the pain of parting. Now, Cecilia only felt relieved.

Finally, he was gone.

Her sudden generosity last night was just to let Alaric leave without worry.

Indeed, she took to heart what Juniper had told her. Alaric couldn't fail, so she couldn't be the one to hinder him. She had to make Alaric rational.

In fact, she didn't think Alaric would really give up his power for her, but she couldn't take that gamble. She couldn't gamble with Theodore and Genevieve's lives. Having experienced life and death separation once, she was afraid of history repeating itself, so she chose to compromise.

But ultimately, she still wanted Alaric to leave in this way.

Even if she had figured everything out, even if she forced herself to accept her current identity, she didn't want to always be compromised under Alaric's power. The less she saw him, the better.

She slowly got out of bed.

As soon as she got out of bed, she saw a note on the bedside table.

A note, written by Alaric himself.

Cecilia sneered.

She picked it up, didn't read it, and threw it directly into the trash can.

What used to feel romantic now felt disgusting.

Cecilia went to wash up as usual.

After washing up, she went downstairs. George saw her and quickly approached, "Ms. Lockhart, you're awake."

"Has Alaric left?" Cecilia asked casually.

"Mr. Whitaker left early in the morning. He didn't want to disturb your sleep, so he didn't wake you," George explained.

Cecilia nodded slightly.

"Mr. Whitaker instructed me to make sure you eat well," George quickly added.

"Okay," Cecilia responded.

She was somewhat numb to Alaric's concern, even a bit repulsed.

After George finished speaking, he went to prepare breakfast for Cecilia.

Cecilia sat on the sofa, observing the house still filled with so many black-clad bodyguards. Not just bodyguards, but also 24-hour on-call medical staff.

From now on.

Would she always live in this house like a caged bird?

Cecilia smiled faintly.

Her phone suddenly rang at that moment.

Cecilia glanced at it, seeing Alaric's number, and her emotions fluctuated even more.

But she quickly swallowed it down and answered in a calm tone, "Have you arrived in Astralton City?"

"Yes," Alaric's deep voice said, "Are you awake?"

"Yes," Cecilia actually knew that George had informed him.

Of course, she didn't blame George.

Everyone has their own duties, and George was just doing his job.

"I might not be back for a while. After handling things here, I'll be visiting neighboring countries, which will take about a month."

"Okay, take care of yourself," Cecilia tried to be a considerate mistress.

"Cecilia, if you have any needs, you can let me know," Alaric said gently.

Cecilia frowned slightly.

She didn't understand what Alaric meant.

Alaric explained, "For example, if you want to go out, or if you want to stay with your parents for a while..."

"No need," Cecilia refused outright, "My parents are doing well now. If I go back, I'll only disturb them. As for going out, I'll listen to the doctor. If the doctor thinks my body can handle it, I'll go out for a walk. You don't need to worry about me. I know how to take care of myself."

"Okay," Alaric could only respond.

He could only care for Cecilia to this extent.

He didn't dare to give Cecilia too much freedom.

"Alaric, are you ready to leave?"

On the other end of the phone, Juniper's urging voice came through.

Cecilia said, "Go ahead and get busy. If I have any needs or issues, I'll call you."

"Okay," Alaric nodded.

Cecilia then hung up the phone.

After hanging up, the facade on Cecilia's face completely fell away.

Would she have to get used to this from now on?

Get used to Juniper always being present in Alaric's phone.

Cecilia's emotions fluctuated for only a few seconds.

She understood very well what she had to face.

It was just a long-term battle.
