Chapter 510 The Outbreak of a Major Accident (3) The Situation is Urgent

Cecilia and Cassius finished their phone call, and Cecilia had no intention of going to work anymore.

She took a leave of absence from Theodore, assigned some tasks to Rose and Pierce, and then focused on Alaric's arrest.

George was evidently anxious as well.

Emily had just come downstairs. It was unclear whether it was because Cecilia had outsmarted her recently or something else, but she had been behaving herself, sometimes even deliberately avoiding Cecilia's presence at home. Now, seeing Cecilia still at home, she was visibly displeased.

She said, "Why aren't you at work yet? Isn't Alaric leaving today?"

Her tone was somewhat sarcastic.

Cecilia glanced at Emily.

George couldn't hold back any longer. He genuinely felt that Emily shouldn't be causing trouble at this moment. He said directly, "Mr. Whitaker has been arrested by the prosecutors for embezzlement."

"What?" Emily's face changed instantly.

Sensing the heavy atmosphere at home, she knew it was true.

She said anxiously, "Alaric doesn't need money. Why would he embezzle? He's so wealthy; why would he need to embezzle?"

Cecilia didn't want to engage with Emily.

Although she was trying to stay calm, the thought of Alaric being taken away made it hard for her to remain composed.

She couldn't be sure if there were some conspiracy behind this.

Knowing how wealthy Alaric was, using embezzlement as a charge to frame him seemed overly simplistic.

Cecilia's face was grave.

Emily had never seen Cecilia like this before and couldn't help but feel intimidated. At that moment, she didn't dare to provoke Cecilia further.

She felt that only Cecilia could handle this situation.

And she didn't dare to cause Cecilia any more trouble.

She was visibly uneasy at home, not knowing what to do.

If something really happened to Alaric, she didn't want to live anymore.

Thinking this, her eyes welled up with tears.

George, being soft-hearted, was also worried about Alaric's situation. But seeing Emily, who had just woken up and hadn't eaten, with red eyes, he quickly got up from the couch. "Ms. Whitaker, I'll make you breakfast."

"No need, I have no appetite," Emily said.

"You have to eat even if you have no appetite!" Cecilia snapped at Emily. "Don't cause any more trouble for any of us at a time like this!"

Emily was rendered speechless by Cecilia's words.

She looked at Cecilia with a mix of grievance and fear.

George went to the kitchen to make breakfast.

Cecilia waited at home for Cassius.

In less than half an hour, Cassius hurried over.

Usually, Cassius seemed unreliable, but when it came to serious matters, he was more dependable than anyone.

He was accompanied by a man.

In Cecilia's memory, she didn't know this person.

Cassius quickly introduced him to Cecilia, "This is Preston Collins. He's a lawyer. Alaric studied law and got his license under Preston's guidance. He mainly focuses on teaching and doesn't handle many cases, but his abilities are unquestionable."

Cecilia couldn't help but scrutinize him.

Preston appeared to be in his forties. He looked very mature and composed, wearing scholarly glasses, and gave off a very humble and polite vibe.

"Hello," Cecilia greeted.

"Hello, Mrs. Whitaker." Preston nodded slightly. "I've just heard from Cassius about Alaric's case. From my perspective, since the other side is so blatant, the evidence for this case will be very substantial. Our chances of winning aren't great."

"I don't think so," Cecilia directly refuted Preston, unwilling to accept his viewpoint. "Since it's a frame-up, there must be flaws to uncover. I don't believe anything can be done flawlessly."

"I agree," Cassius quickly chimed in.

"Of course, I believe that too. I'm just telling you that the situation isn't optimistic. Let's not waste any more time. I've already communicated with the prosecutors. Let's go see if we can get bail."

"Okay," Cecilia agreed immediately.

Then they left.

George and Emily watched their backs.

Emily's eyes reddened again.

She said, "Alaric won't really be in trouble, will he?"

"I don't know, but I feel like Mrs. Whitaker can get Mr. Whitaker out," George said quietly.

The group sat in Augustus's car, which was initially very quiet, until Cecilia's phone rang.

She glanced at the caller and answered, "Seraphina."

"Alaric's been arrested?" Seraphina sounded particularly agitated.

"How do you know?" Cecilia frowned.

"It's all over the news. Everyone knows Alaric was arrested for embezzlement," Seraphina said in a loud voice. "I mean, does he need money? Fifty million dollars is nothing to him. Why would he embezzle? Does he think fifty million dollars is such a small amount that it doesn't count as embezzlement, so he just casually took it?"

Cecilia didn't want to explain to Seraphina.

Alaric wouldn't be that stupid.

"To Alaric, it's a small amount, but to ordinary people, it's a fortune they could never earn in a lifetime. Does Alaric have to be this dumb?" Seraphina ranted.

Cecilia couldn't take it anymore and said, "You're the dumb one!"

"What?" Seraphina sounded hurt.

"You better focus on your work. Otherwise, your family's wealth and assets could be taken advantage of without you even knowing!" Cecilia reminded.

"You mean Dashiell?" Seraphina's tone changed noticeably.

"That's why I said you're dumb."

"Cecilia!"

"I'm not talking to you anymore. I'm busy," Cecilia said.

Seraphina said into the phone, "I was going to comfort you. I know you're feeling bad."

Cecilia pursed her lips.

Seraphina occasionally liked to joke, but she genuinely wanted to cheer her up.

Cecilia said, "I'm fine."

"Really? You and Alaric are so in love now. He was taken away, and you wouldn't be very sad?" Seraphina couldn't help but get emotional.

"I believe Alaric, and I'm sure I can get him out," Cecilia said firmly.

"Do you need my help?" Seraphina asked.

"Not for now."

"Let me know if you need anything."

"Just don't cause trouble. Not saying more, I'm hanging up now."

Without waiting for Seraphina to say anything else, Cecilia hung up the phone.

After hanging up, Cecilia immediately opened the news app to check the news.

The news of Alaric's arrest for embezzlement had instantly become the headline and a trending topic.

Cecilia gritted her teeth.

Preston's words echoed in her mind.

If the other side was so blatant, did it really mean there was no room for reversal in this matter?
