Chapter 323 Danger (12) Completely Out of Danger

The sound of a helicopter engine suddenly rang out in the sky.

Cecilia stared blankly at the sky.

She didn't know what force the sudden helicopters belonged to.

She was also unaware of the forces at play among the cars that had suddenly parked on the highway's far side.

Her body tensed.

She watched several helicopters slowly descend.

She watched as, from inside the helicopter, so many heavily armed personnel came down.

As soon as they landed, they began a thorough search.

At the same time, people from the cars on the highway also joined the search.

Cecilia was quickly located; she hadn't hidden, actually, as her intuition warned her the visitors were there to help.

The local forces in Lindwood couldn't possibly have this kind of equipment.

Fortunately, her guess was correct.

The SWAT officers from Serenovia City had come to rescue them.

Cecilia was forcibly taken to a helicopter and protected the entire time.

She wanted to find Alaric but was refused.

She didn't even have a chance to resist; the group had already left.

Cecilia just sat in the helicopter, waiting.

Her eyes moved slightly.

She saw a group of people returning outside the helicopter.

Cecilia hurriedly tried to get off the helicopter.

"Ms. Lockhart, calm down," the SWAT officer stopped her.

"Can you stay calm when your husband's life is uncertain?" Cecilia questioned.

The SWAT officer was visibly stunned for two seconds, then said seriously, "I don't have a husband."

Cecilia was so angry she could spit blood, "Your wife!"

"I don't even have a girlfriend," the SWAT officer said with a serious face.

Cecilia felt like her words fell on deaf ears.

She was about to explode with anger.

Then she saw a few SWAT officers officers helping a man up.

The moment Cecilia saw who it was.

Her heart almost jumped out of her chest.

It was Alaric.

He wasn't dead.

She knew he wouldn't die.

She hurried forward.

"Hold on, we've already contacted the doctors in Serenovia City," the SWAT officer reassured, noticing Alaric's pain.

Cecilia was shocked, "Alaric, are you hurt?"

"Got hit by a bullet," Alaric said weakly.

"What?" Cecilia was terrified.

"I won't die. It's in my arm," Alaric quickly explained.

Cecilia immediately looked over.

She saw his arm was simply bandaged, covered in blood.

When Cecilia was about to say something, Alaric anxiously asked the SWAT officers, "I killed someone, will I be sentenced?"

The SWAT officers shook their heads. "Don't worry, it was self-defense, and you're injured. We'll testify for you."

"Really?" Alaric asked, still uneasy.

He looked like a timid person afraid of trouble.

Cecilia couldn't help but feel Alaric was pretending.

"Really," the SWAT officer confirmed.

"Thank you."

The SWAT officer appeared indifferent, nodded slightly, and didn't respond further.

"Cecilia," Alaric called her.

"I'm here," Cecilia snapped back to reality and quickly said.

"Can you hold me?" Alaric asked.

"What?" Cecilia frowned.

"I just killed someone, I'm a bit scared," Alaric looked extremely timid.

Cecilia hurried over to hold Alaric.

She didn't know if he was telling the truth.

But she thought, 'Alaric said he killed someone?'

She bit her lip, feeling indescribable.

"How about Cassius and Augustus?" Cecilia asked.

"They're taking the cars back," Alaric replied.

"Were they hurt?"

"They shouldn't be, I don't know."

"Okay," Cecilia nodded.

During the flight, they occasionally spoke a few words but mostly remained silent.

The helicopter quickly arrived at the rooftop of Serenovia City Hospital.

Doctors were already waiting there.

The SWAT officer helped Alaric onto a stretcher, and two of them followed to escort him for surgery and wound treatment.

Cecilia stayed with Alaric in the emergency room.

Then, the bandage was removed.

"Don't look," Alaric suddenly said to Cecilia.

Cecilia snapped back.

"Don't look," Alaric repeated.

Cecilia's throat moved slightly.

"Hold me tight," Alaric said.

Cecilia had no choice but to hold Alaric tightly, not looking at his gunshot wound.

To outsiders, it seemed like Alaric was scared.

After a long time, the doctor removed the bullet from Alaric and suggested he stay in the hospital for two days to receive anti-inflammatory medication.

Alaric was then taken to a ward.

Cecilia naturally stayed with Alaric.

The SWAT officer, after confirming Alaric was not in any life-threatening danger, prepared to leave.

"The local forces in Lindwood and the drug trafficking gang..." Alaric asked, hesitating.

"We have solid evidence, and we will arrest them all. Thanks to you, we discovered this gang; otherwise, who knows how long the local forces in Lindwood would have continued to run rampant!"The SWAT officer replied.

"I was just doing my duty. As long as I can protect the local citizens, I'm satisfied."

"Don't worry, we'll handle the rest. You just focus on recovering."

"By the way, the drug lord escaped. You must catch him; if you don't, he'll come back soon."

"We've already sent people to track him down," the SWAT officer said, "You just focus on getting better."

"Okay, thank you for your hard work."

The SWAT officer gave Alaric a standard salute, then they left.

After they left, Alaric stopped pretending.

His expression changed.

"Not pretending anymore?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow.

Alaric smirked, "Why would I pretend in front of you?"

"Alaric, you're really not afraid of death," Cecilia said through gritted teeth.

She suddenly realized.

It seemed like everything was part of Alaric's plan.

In order to get credit, he put himself in great and willful danger.

"No, I'm very afraid," Alaric said, whispering in her ear, "I'm afraid if I die, I won't see you again."

Cecilia swallowed her words because of his sweet talk.

She bit her lip, not wanting to be swayed by him.

She was about to speak when Alaric pulled her into his arms, "My body is exhausted. Let's rest first, we'll talk tomorrow!"

Cecilia held back.

Eventually, she nodded.

It was already 4 AM.

Under high stress and physical exertion, their bodies couldn't hold up anymore.

They quickly took a hot shower, changed into hospital gowns, and cuddled on one bed.

They fell asleep instantly.

Back in Serenovia City, in a safe environment, they let down their guard and slept soundly.

Slept until four in the afternoon, a full twelve hours.

During their sleep, they seemed to hear some noises but were too tired to open their eyes.

She awoke due to hunger after not eating for two days, now experiencing hypoglycemia.

She felt so hungry, she could eat a whole cow!
