Chapter 765 Theodore is Angry
Rose took the amulet, her eyes red with tears.
Even though no one could accept it, the token of love she had given was returned.
At that moment, Cecilia didn't even dare to look at Rose's aggrieved expression.
She could only think of this as the least hurtful way to handle it.
"Then tell him," Rose's voice was choked, but she forced herself to appear indifferent, "Don't think he's my only option. I have plenty of choices."
"Okay," Cecilia nodded.
She thought.
Augustus would probably want Rose to have many choices.
She used to think Augustus had no feelings for Rose.
After all, he always avoided her whenever he saw her.
He always kept his distance from her.
If it weren't for the fact that he always wore the amulet.
Cecilia couldn't think any further.
The thought of Augustus's death still made her feel unbearable pain.
She said, "Rose, inform the chairman's secretary that I need to see my father. I'll go see him right away."
"Okay," Rose was very upset, but her professionalism made her hold back her feelings and choose to do her job diligently.
Rose left.
Cecilia watched Rose's back, her eyes reddening again.
She forced herself to calm down.
Augustus was gone.
She hoped her way of handling things was what Augustus would have wanted.
After a while, Rose knocked on the door again and entered, respectfully saying, "Ms. Lockhart, Mr. Lockhart is available now. You can go see him."
"Okay," Cecilia nodded.
She got up and went straight to Theodore's office.
Rose followed behind.
"You don't need to follow me, go do your own work," Cecilia said directly.
"Yes." Cecilia went to Theodore's office.
There were some things she needed to explain to Theodore alone.
Standing at the office door, she hesitated.
She was thinking about how to explain things to Theodore.
In both her past and present lives.
The Lockhart Group had failed under her management.
She gritted her teeth, turned to the two black-clad bodyguards behind her, and said, "I'm not going to jump out of the window. You can wait at the door."
Meaning, she wouldn't run away.
The two bodyguards looked at each other, then nodded.
Cecilia pursed her lips.
She almost thought she didn't even have that bit of freedom.
Cecilia took a deep breath, finally mustering the courage to knock on the door.
The door opened.
Theodore was sitting in his luxurious office chair, waiting for her.
Seeing her appear, he quickly said, "Cecilia, why are you at work? Weren't you in Astralton City with Alaric?"
Theodore had always thought Cecilia was in Astralton City with Alaric.
Cecilia's heart ached slightly.
If Theodore knew how much Alaric had hurt her, how heartbroken would he be?
"What's wrong?" Theodore clearly noticed something was off with Cecilia.
Cecilia pursed her lips and forced a smile. "Dad, I need to talk to you about something."
"If you have something to say, you could have called me. You didn't need to travel all the way back. Aren't you afraid of tiring yourself out?" Theodore said dotingly, then glanced at her abdomen, "How's your health? How's the baby?"
"Everything's fine," Cecilia said, "The doctor said everything is normal."
"That's good. You have no idea how much your mom worries at home, afraid you wouldn't be comfortable in Astralton City, worried it would be bad for your health. But she also thought you and Alaric were a couple, and it wouldn't be realistic to have you live apart, so she didn't try to persuade you. Now that you're back, your mom and I can be at ease. By the way, I'll call your mom and have her prepare some of your favorite dishes for dinner tonight," Theodore was overjoyed at Cecilia's sudden return.
Cecilia felt even more distressed seeing Theodore's expression.
"By the way, did Alaric come back with you? Should I have your mom prepare some of his favorite dishes too?" Theodore asked.
There were many things Cecilia really couldn't say.
She didn't want to make Theodore sad.
She could even imagine how devastated Theodore would be when he learned the truth!
She watched as Theodore picked up the phone to call Genevieve.
She said, heavily, "Dad, Alaric and I are divorced."
Theodore's hand, dialing the phone, clearly paused.
With a look of disbelief, as if he had misheard.
"We're really divorced," Cecilia repeated.
"Divorced?" Theodore was still confirming.
"Yes," Cecilia said, "We've been divorced for a week."
"How did you get divorced?" Theodore's face changed instantly, his anger barely concealed, "What happened? How could you not tell your mom and me about such a big thing as a divorce? Did Alaric do something to betray you? Or did he abandon you because of his current status?"
"Both, but the most important thing is, to solidify his power, he had to cooperate with the Monroe family. And the only way the Monroe family would trust him was for him to marry Juniper, the Monroe family's daughter, and truly become family."
Theodore angrily slammed the table.
He never expected Alaric to be such a person.
When rumors about Alaric and Juniper first surfaced, he and Genevieve didn't take them seriously, thinking it was just media nonsense, and that Alaric would never betray Cecilia.
But they never expected Alaric to choose power over Cecilia.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got.
Cecilia could see Theodore's anger, and perhaps to avoid making her too sad, Theodore was holding back.
She stepped forward, "Dad, it's okay. I understand and have accepted it. Love isn't everything, I'm not as fragile as you think."
Theodore looked at Cecilia.
Cecilia had always been sensible since she was a child.
Even when facing such a big issue, she was still comforting him.
"What about your child with him?" Theodore asked.
Thinking about the child, still in the womb, made Theodore want to beat Alaric to death.
"The baby is five months old. It's risky to have an abortion now. We've agreed that I'll give birth to the child."
"How unfortunate!" Theodore couldn't help but curse.
Indeed, with the pregnancy at five months, he couldn't persuade Cecilia to have an abortion.
"The child will belong to our family," Theodore said firmly, "Alaric will never see the child again!"
Cecilia didn't know how to explain that she was still being held captive by Alaric.
She thought for a moment.
Decided to first talk about the Lockhart Group.
She said seriously, "Dad, that's not the main issue. After all, love is mutual. If one party doesn't want it, no one can force it. I'm not as fragile as you think. I can handle my feelings for Alaric. The only thing I regret is implicating you and mom."
"Don't say implicate. We're family..."
"Alaric is going to take over the Lockhart Group," Cecilia said clearly, word by word.
