Chapter 36 More Than a Brilliant Career
Nighttime, a dimly lit corner.
Cecilia watched Alaric warily, who exuded a sense of danger.
He reeked of alcohol with a hint of tobacco.
She used to think that men who smoked were very unpleasant.
Cecilia had been grateful that Dominic didn't smoke.
She had thought Dominic was the cleanest man in the world; he was principled, not drinking nor smoking, and not gambling either. He seemed polite to everyone.
Now, she realized that some people's foulness emanated from unseen depths within.
Her throat moved slightly.
She didn't know what Alaric was suddenly up to.
It was distinctly different from the feeling in her backyard earlier tonight.
Back then, Alaric was angry too, but not like now, not just angry, but exuding danger.
And the smell of tobacco on him, she surprisingly didn't find it repulsive; instead, it seemed to exude a masculine hormone.
Alaric was truly a seductive fairy descended to earth!
"Ms. Lockhart." Alaric's magnetic voice was pleasant and charming. "Did you stick out your tongue?"
"What?" Cecilia was puzzled.
She didn't understand the meaning behind Alaric's sudden question.
At this moment, all her senses were focused on the warm breath coming out of Alaric's mouth because it was so close, making her face quietly warm.
"I mean, when you kissed Dominic tonight, did you stick out your tongue?" Alaric slowly uttered each word, and Cecilia still couldn't discern his tone.
Cecilia felt embarrassed.
How could he talk about such things so openly and calmly?
"I don't like it," Alaric said.
Without waiting for Cecilia's response, he continued.
Cecilia didn't even have time to think whether Alaric meant he didn't like her sticking out her tongue or didn't like her kissing Dominic.
At that moment, she suddenly felt a soft lip pressing against hers.
Cecilia tensed up.
It had been a long time since she had reacted, just staring at Alaric.
It was the first time that she stared at him up close.
She watched his closed eyes and his eyelashes.
She realized that Alaric actually had long and thick eyelashes, dense and curled upwards.
At such a close distance, his bronze skin appeared so smooth, devoid of pores.
Was this the kind of skin a man should have?
She suddenly remembered Seraphina saying Alaric was a bottom.
If that were true, he must be the best-looking bottom in the world.
Cecilia's heart skipped a beat.
Initially, Alaric had just placed his lips on hers.
Two soft lips pressed tightly together without any movement.
At that moment, Alaric used his tongue to pry open her mouth directly.
Cecilia involuntarily clenched her fists.
Alaric's mouth still had a hint of alcohol, but she didn't find it repulsive; instead, she felt slightly intoxicated by the alcohol, unable to resist, enduring Alaric's lingering kiss tirelessly.
It was a long time.
A really long time.
Before Alaric finally pulled away from Cecilia, whose lips were slightly swollen.
As he pulled away, there was a hint of ambiguous moisture between their lips, even though it quickly dissipated.
However, the liquid on Alaric's lips was so obvious.
Cecilia's cheeks turned as red as a rose.
She never expected she would let Alaric kiss her.
Even when their lips parted, her mouth still seemed to be filled with the sensation of the kiss, unable to dissipate.
Her eyelashes trembled, and her heartbeat became irregular.
Alaric's slender fingers gently touched her lips as if wiping away the ambiguous liquid at the corner of her mouth.
However, beneath this gentle appearance, it was entirely different from the man she remembered.
Whether it was the carefree Alaric or the authoritative Alaric, neither resembled the man before her now.
His attractive lips parted slightly as he said, "With such soft lips, don't let other men touch them again."
Under his gentle demeanor, there was an overwhelming dominance.
An aura that couldn't be resisted.
Cecilia snapped out of her daze.
It took a long time to come to her senses.
The title of this playboy Alaric was indeed fitting.
How had she become so immersed in his kiss, unable to sober up?
She forced herself to calm down.
Finally, she calmed down.
She said, "Alaric, we will only have a superficially false marital relationship. To be blunt, we don't belong to each other."
The tenderness on Alaric's face vanished instantly.
The sudden coldness revealed the Alaric she remembered.
"So, Ms. Lockhart is rejecting me," Alaric said coldly.
"Just a reminder, Mr. Whitaker, to prevent any misunderstandings about our previous relationship."
Alaric's expression darkened.
Cecilia pretended not to notice or care about Alaric's emotions. She continued, "In any case, whether before or after marriage, let's not disrupt each other's lifestyles. You can continue to be flirtatious with many beautiful women, and I won't mind. At the same time, please, Mr. Whitaker, maintain your distance from me."
"Ms. Lockhart means that even after marriage, I can still be entangled with countless women, but I must not offend Ms. Lockhart."
"Mr. Whitaker, with such a rich life, I believe you wouldn't want to give up thousands of interesting women for an ordinary woman."
"You're not me; how do you know I wouldn't want to?" Alaric asked her.
Alaric's tone was clearly questioning.
"Because I won't let myself belong to any man again." Cecilia didn't answer Alaric's question; she just told him bluntly.
She wouldn't fall in love with any man again.
Men had deceived her in her past life; she didn't want any emotional entanglements with men in this life.
With Alaric, it was just a transaction.
Once the transaction was over, she could stay away from all these conflicts forever.
"Alaric, I will help you achieve a brilliant career!" This was the only promise she could give him.
As for him, she didn't need his promises.
As long as she didn't fall in love with him, she could be invincible, and she would never fall in love with any man again!
Alaric chuckled.
It was a good-looking smile, but it sent a shiver down her spine.
He moved away from Cecilia.
As he left, he took a step back.
The distance of that step made Cecilia feel that Alaric exuded nobility and gentlemanliness from within.
It was genuine respect for her, not the pretense of Dominic.
He said, "One day, you will realize that what I want is not just a brilliant career."
Cecilia stared straight at him.
"What I want is..." Alaric trailed off, but he never finished the sentence.
She watched Alaric as he turned and left.
The departing figure seemed to carry a sense of vicissitudes and loneliness!
Was he also adept at disguises?
She felt there was no need to think deeply.
This time, she would never make the same mistake again!
