Chapter 594 Business Banquet (2) Kidnapping

Seraphina's enthusiastic embrace left Cecilia feeling slightly uncomfortable.

If she told Seraphina she'd been resurrected once, Seraphina would probably lose it.

She shoved Seraphina away, "Dashiell's here. As his assistant, shouldn't you be with him instead of wandering around?"

"Can't I have a little freedom?" Seraphina snapped back, clearly annoyed.

Deep down, she actually admired Cecilia.

She just couldn't wrap her head around how Cecilia could be so incredible.

When she ditched Dominic for Alaric, everyone thought she'd end up a joke. But now, those same people were eating their words.

No one saw it coming that Cecilia's so-called bad choice would lead to such a happy life!

"Dashiell," Cecilia called out, spotting him not too far away.

Seraphina rolled her eyes.

She had just asked for some freedom, and now Cecilia was calling Dashiell over.

Dashiell walked over to Cecilia, not even glancing at Seraphina, and said, "Are you here alone?"

"Alaric's not feeling well and isn't up for big parties right now. My dad's thinking about retiring and didn't want to come either," Cecilia explained, then introduced, "This is my assistant Pierce and my secretary Rose. This is Dashiell, the general manager of Everhart Bank."

"Mr. Rainier, nice to meet you," Pierce and Rose greeted him eagerly.

"Nice to meet you," Dashiell replied politely.

He came off as refined and courteous.

"There will be plenty of chances to work together in the future. Pierce, you should stay in touch with Dashiell," Cecilia instructed.

She wanted to help Pierce expand his social circle and become more independent.

"Yes," Pierce responded respectfully.

Dashiell could see Cecilia's trust in Pierce and knew how to treat him moving forward.

They chatted for a bit.

It was all polite and formal.

Seraphina yawned on the side.

She just couldn't get how, despite growing up together, Cecilia and Dashiell had changed so much.

After a while, Dashiell said to Cecilia, "I need to go meet someone over there. Excuse me."

Cecilia glanced over and saw Wilford Langley, the president of Unity World Bank's Yakurosean Empire branch, Everhart Bank's biggest competitor.

Unity World Bank had been in the Yakurosean Empire for a week. It hadn't made much impact yet, but it was bound to become a competitor to Everhart Bank over time.

Dashiell heading over to talk to Wilford clearly had his own agenda.

Seraphina followed him.

Cecilia watched for a moment, then took Pierce and Rose to chat with others.

At 9:30 PM, Cecilia decided to leave.

She wanted to let Seraphina know, but seeing her busy with Dashiell, she didn't want to interrupt.

She was worried that if she left, Seraphina would follow.

But at these business parties, drinking was inevitable.

Seraphina, despite everything else, could hold her liquor. Dashiell, on the other hand, wasn't much of a drinker. With Seraphina's help, he could handle it better.

Watching them, Cecilia suddenly smiled.

She thought Seraphina and Dashiell actually made a good pair.

Maybe, over time, they'd fall in love again.

"I'm heading out. The party's still going strong, so you two can leave whenever you want," Cecilia said to Pierce and Rose.

"I'll head out with you. Got a project to tackle tonight," Pierce said.

Rose thought for a moment and figured there was no point in staying alone. "I'll leave with you too," she decided.

Cecilia didn't push it. Socializing should be voluntary.

She nodded, "I'll hit the restroom first."

"I'll go too," Pierce told Rose. "You wait for us in the car. I'll come out with Ms. Lockhart."

Rose didn't think much of it and nodded before leaving the party hall.

She sat in Augustus's car, waiting for them.

After a while, Augustus frowned, "Did Mrs. Whitaker say she was leaving?"

"Yeah," Rose was puzzled too. "She said she was going to the restroom and then leaving. It's been half an hour..."

Before Rose could finish, Augustus opened the car door and got out.

"Augustus!" Rose was startled and quickly followed him.

Parties like this required invitations.

Rose and Augustus weren't on the guest list and couldn't get in.

Just as Augustus was about to force his way in, Rose quickly stopped him, "Let's call Ms. Lockhart first."

Augustus held back.

Rose's hands trembled as she dialed the number.

No answer.

She panicked. Could something have happened?

But at such a high-profile party, what could go wrong?

It seemed unlikely.

She quickly called Pierce.

With each ring, her heart beat faster.

"Come on, Pierce, pick up." Rose was extremely nervous.

Just when she was about to give up, the call connected, "Rose."

"Why didn't you answer the phone!" Rose was furious. "We've been waiting for you and Ms. Lockhart for half an hour. Where are you? Ms. Lockhart isn't answering her phone."

Pierce pursed his lips.

At that moment, he was driving with one hand and holding the phone with the other. He glanced at the rearview mirror, where Cecilia lay unconscious in the back seat.

He had kidnapped Cecilia.

There was no other choice. Orders were orders, and he had to follow through.

Originally, he planned to kidnap Cecilia on the way back. But with Augustus around, it was difficult, so he decided to act at the party, taking advantage of Cecilia's trip to the restroom.

He waited for Cecilia outside the restroom.

As soon as she came out, he approached her and covered her mouth with a handkerchief soaked in a sedative.

It took less than ten seconds for Cecilia to pass out.

After she fainted, Pierce left through the back door.

He had accompanied Cecilia to the party, so leaving with her wouldn't raise suspicion.

He put Cecilia in a car he had prepared earlier and drove to a remote location.

By now, he had been away from the party for over 20 minutes.

Augustus was far behind them.

Even if Augustus tried to catch up now, it would be too late.

"Why aren't you saying anything!" Rose was furious at Pierce's silence.

Didn't he hear her say Cecilia wasn't answering her phone?

Wasn't he supposed to be with Cecilia in the restroom?

"Is Augustus with you?" Pierce asked.

Rose was taken aback, "Yeah, why?"

"Give him the phone."

"Why?"

"Just give it to him!" Pierce's voice grew stern.

Rose's heart skipped a beat.

She suddenly felt that this Pierce was completely different from the one she knew.

It was as if he had become a different person.

She even doubted if the person on the other end was really Pierce, but the voice was unmistakable.

In the end, she handed the phone to Augustus.

As soon as Augustus took the phone, he heard Pierce say, "Call Alaric to save Cecilia!"
