Chapter 165 Tit for Tat

Cecilia jumped at the sudden noise.

Annoyed, she asked, "What did you say?"

"I asked if you need my help," Alaric repeated.

A moment ago, he was testing her. Now, he wanted to help.

Cecilia shook her head. "No need."

She knew he was offering help with Rebecca. But she wasn't sure how powerful Alaric really was. She just knew he was aware Rebecca was targeting her.

Alaric stared at the back of her head. She was used to sleeping with her back to him, like she was keeping her distance. What she didn't realize was that this position was actually more dangerous for her.

"I'm afraid you can't bear to hurt your ex-girlfriend, and I don't want to put you in a tough spot," she said.

Cecilia didn't want Alaric to stop her revenge on Rebecca. She wasn't feeling merciful. Anyone who crossed her would face harsh payback.

"I don't have an ex-girlfriend," Alaric said, sounding a bit angry.

"Doesn't matter to me," Cecilia replied, wanting to end the conversation and sleep.

She felt him turn over, his back now to her. He seemed angry. But she didn't think she said anything wrong. 'If he's mad, let him be,' she thought, as long as he didn't disturb her sleep.

Cecilia slept well that night, not noticing Alaric tossing and turning beside her.

The next morning, she woke up feeling refreshed. She thought about how Alaric had let her sleep well, but she didn't appreciate it. He could start tormenting her at any moment.

She got out of bed quietly and left without looking at him. If she had, she would've seen his resentful eyes watching her.

After breakfast, Cecilia headed to the office. She walked in and said, "Are we going to Radiant Films today to discuss Wendy's endorsement?"

"Yes," Rose replied quickly. "We've scheduled it. Mr. Cunningham will go at ten with the contract."

"Tell Gordon I'll go with him."

Rose was surprised. 'Does Cecilia need to handle this? Isn't she tired of all the work?'

"Just do as I say," Cecilia said without explaining.

"Yes."

Rose left and soon returned. "Mrs. Whitaker, Mr. Cunningham will leave in ten minutes. Are you going with him?"

"No, I'll follow his car."

"Okay."

Ten minutes later, Cecilia and Rose followed Gordon's car to Radiant Films in Augustus's car. Twenty minutes later, they arrived.

Cecilia and Gordon went to meet Wendy's agent, Leo Coleman, to discuss the contract. As they entered Leo's office, his secretary said politely, "Sorry, Mr. Coleman is meeting with other guests. Please wait a moment."

Gordon's face showed clear displeasure. "We scheduled for ten, and there's only five minutes left."

"Really sorry," the secretary apologized sincerely.

Gordon's tone was firm. "I want to see Leo in five minutes. Go inform him."

"Okay," the secretary said respectfully. "Please have a seat. I'll inform him right away."

Gordon waved his hand, looking very displeased. Being stood up by the service provider was a blow to their self-esteem, especially in front of Cecilia.

Cecilia, however, stayed calm. She had a good idea why Leo was meeting someone else. Rebecca was being cautious. Rumors had been swirling that Rebecca wanted Wendy for an endorsement, and she had timed it perfectly to get ahead of them. Was Rebecca wary of her playing dirty tricks?

Honestly, if Cecilia hadn't lived ten more years, it wouldn't have been so easy to lure Rebecca into the trap.

After a while, the secretary came out and said politely, "Mr. Coleman is free now."

Cecilia frowned. 'Did they finish their meeting so quickly?'

Gordon walked in first, looking somewhat arrogant. Cecilia followed closely behind.

As soon as Cecilia walked into the reception area, she saw Rebecca. Rebecca and Leo seemed to be having a pleasant conversation, with Wendy sitting next to them. When Cecilia and Gordon walked in, it felt like they were interrupting.

Fortunately, Leo was a seasoned agent with high emotional intelligence. Seeing them come in, he quickly greeted them warmly. "Sorry to keep you waiting, Gordon. Please, have a seat."

He invited Gordon and Cecilia to sit on the sofa.

At that moment, Rebecca stood up. "Mr. Coleman, since you have guests, I won't disturb you. Regarding Ms. Alexander's endorsement for ourupcoming commercial, please arrange her schedule accordingly."

"Ms. Adams, don't worry. I'll make sure everything is arranged properly and won't delay your announcement."

Rebecca nodded and turned to leave.

"What do you mean?" Gordon quickly asked, sensing something was off. "Leo, isn't Wendy's endorsement for us? How did it suddenly go to someone else?!"

"When did you say you wanted Wendy for an endorsement?" Leo looked genuinely surprised. "Didn't you just mention a collaboration for Wendy? You didn't specify what it was."

Gordon hadn't made it clear. He had mentioned it briefly over the phone, thinking they could finalize it today. He didn't expect to be suddenly cut off. A celebrity certainly couldn't take on two competing endorsements at the same time. His face immediately turned grim.

Rebecca, who was about to leave but intentionally didn't, spoke up, "Is the Lockhart Group also planning to have Wendy endorse? What a coincidence."

Gordon was so angry he couldn't say a word. He thought, 'If this deal falls through, he would be mocked by Cecilia whenthey get back!'

"Yes, Ms. Adams, it's quite a coincidence that you think so too," Cecilia said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

But what could Cecilia do? In business, only the results matter. The process was just an excuse for the losers and held no significance.
