Chapter 812 Feeling Ashamed of One's Inferiority

Seraphina returned to the office.

Nora was somewhat surprised to see her. She knew Seraphina was scheduled to return today, but Seraphina had just called to assign a bunch of tasks, saying she would arrive at Everhart Bank tomorrow. So why was she here now?

"Ms. Everhart, you're back?" Nora quickly approached.

"Make me a cup of coffee," Seraphina ordered. "Black coffee, no sugar."

Nora thought she had misheard.

Usually, Seraphina drank her coffee with milk and sugar, in large quantities.

Nora quickly went to make a cup for Seraphina.

Seraphina took a sip.

The coffee was so bitter that her face twisted.

Nora couldn't help but laugh a little. "Ms. Everhart, should I get you another cup?"

"No need, I need to stay awake," Seraphina said calmly.

"Ms. Everhart, didn't you say you weren't coming to work today? You look so tired, your eyes are bloodshot," Nora said with some concern.

Seraphina looked at Nora. "Are they really bloodshot?"

"Yes, very much so. Let me get you a mirror," Nora quickly fetched a small makeup mirror and placed it in front of Seraphina.

Seraphina thought about how she had flown today and hadn't planned to come to work, so she hadn't even put on makeup. Now she looked quite haggard, and her eyes were indeed bloodshot, no wonder they hurt.

And in this state, Dashiell was completely indifferent.

What a ruthless capitalist.

Exploiting every bit of the employees' energy.

Seraphina handed the mirror back to Nora. "I'm going to wash my face. Have the sales department come to my office for a meeting. I have something to discuss with them."

"Yes," Nora responded respectfully.

The words "you really should go rest" were swallowed back.

Seraphina washed her face with cold water, forcing herself to wake up a bit.

She had planned to have the sales department finalize their plans today and discuss them tomorrow. Now that she was back, she decided to discuss them today.

The discussion lasted all afternoon.

After finalizing the plan, everyone left, and Seraphina couldn't hold on any longer.

She really fell asleep on her desk.

She slept deeply.

She felt like she had reached her limit.

If this continued, she might suddenly drop dead.

Seraphina was sleeping soundly.

She had no idea Dashiell had come into her office.

He saw her sleeping as soon as he walked in, snoring away.

It wasn't even the end of the workday yet.

Nora, standing nearby, was a bit nervous. She hadn't expected Seraphina to fall asleep.

She quickly explained in a low voice, "Ms. Everhart has been in meetings with the sales department since she got back. She just finished and lay down for a bit. Ms. Everhart is really tired; her eyes were bloodshot when she got back to work..."

"Leave us," Dashiell said softly.

Nora didn't dare say more and quickly left.

She wondered if Dashiell felt sorry for Seraphina.

Maybe the two of them would rekindle their romance in a private space.

Nora felt a bit excited.

In the office.

Dashiell approached Seraphina.

She was snoring, clearly exhausted.

He had seen her condition today. He had called her back to show his displeasure at her sudden departure, but he hadn't expected her to continue working. Based on his understanding of Seraphina, she should have gone straight home.

If he hadn't heard the sales department manager report that they had discussed the plan with Seraphina, he wouldn't have known she was still working.

He stood over her, looking down.

Her face was peaceful in sleep, but because she was lying down, drool had started to trickle out.

Dashiell couldn't help but smile.

No matter the situation, Seraphina always managed to make people feel a mix of emotions.

He reached out, getting close to her lips.

The drool at the corner of her mouth.

Before his fingers could touch it.

Seraphina seemed to sense something close by.

She suddenly opened her eyes.

Seeing Dashiell in front of her, she was startled.

She almost fainted from the shock.

She quickly stood up. "Mr. Montgomery, I wasn't sleeping."

Seraphina looked like a child caught doing something wrong, trying to cover it up poorly.

Dashiell's outstretched fingers retracted subtly.

He moved his hand behind his back, his fingers twitching.

He felt a bit unsatisfied that he hadn't wiped away her drool.

He cleared his throat. "Drool."

He was reminding her that she had drooled.

Seraphina didn't react immediately. When she did, she quickly wiped her lips with her hand.

Her face turned red.

She wanted to escape right then and there.

She had drooled.

Only kids drool in their sleep!

Her image was ruined.

"Sleeping in the office during work hours sets a bad example. It makes your subordinates think you're not authoritative, which isn't good for management."

"I won't do it again," Seraphina quickly promised. "I really won't. I'll go wash my face."

Then she rushed into the office's private bathroom.

There was a spare bed in there, but she hadn't planned to sleep. If she had, she would have used the bed.

She didn't know how she had fallen asleep at her desk.

She quickly washed her face.

Looking at her disheveled reflection in the mirror, Seraphina felt a bit overwhelmed.

She seemed to be losing her image more and more in front of Dashiell.

She walked out of the bathroom.

As she opened the door, she saw Natalia, who had appeared in the office at some point, holding documents for Dashiell to sign.

Seraphina couldn't help but glance at Natalia.

Her makeup was meticulously done.

It was clear that a lot of effort had gone into it, yet it looked light and fresh, the kind of look men would find clean and refreshing.

She was wearing the standard secretary uniform.

But the uniform had been tailored. Originally custom-made to fit, the waist and other measurements were precise.

However, Natalia's uniform had been altered to be shorter and more form-fitting.

It accentuated her curvaceous figure.

In contrast, Seraphina, who had dressed for comfort on the flight, was wearing sneakers and casual clothes.

She had never thought she would lose to anyone in terms of appearance.

Except for Cecilia.

Cecilia was God's favorite.

But in terms of figure and fashion sense, Seraphina was on par with Cecilia.

Now, facing a mere Natalia, she felt a bit inferior.

"Ms. Everhart," Natalia greeted Seraphina with a polite smile.

Seraphina responded but didn't engage much.

She returned to her desk, treating Natalia and Dashiell as if they were invisible, and continued with her unfinished work.
