Chapter 469 The Game (14) Dominic is Furious
Everyone went dead quiet and turned to gawk at the staff at the door, jaws practically hitting the floor.
Three dudes strolled in, flashed their badges, and said to Nathaniel, "Come with us. We need your help with an investigation."
Nathaniel's face went ghostly pale.
He shot a look at Dominic, who looked just as freaked out.
How the heck did this get on the authorities' radar?
Did someone snitch?
But besides them and Sebastian, who else knew?
Dominic's brain was in overdrive.
But he couldn't piece it together.
As Nathaniel got hauled away, the staff told Dominic and Penelope, "Since this case involves you two, you're stuck in Serenovia City until it goes to court. We might need to grill you anytime."
Dominic and Penelope just stood there, looking like they'd seen a ghost.
The staff didn't hang around and left with Nathaniel.
After they bailed, the room was thick with tension.
Bill, on the other end of the video call, sensed something was up and asked, "What the hell happened? Why'd they take Mr. Kingsley?"
Clearly, he got nabbed for breaking the law.
"Mr. Tackett, it's gotta be a mix-up. We'll get to the bottom of it and fill you in." Dominic tried to keep his cool.
Bill's face turned stormy, saying, "We've come too far for screw-ups! If there are any, no one in the Kingsley Group will dodge the fallout!"
In all their dealings, Cecilia had never seen Bill this pissed.
When a big shot gets mad, you can feel it in the air.
"Mr. Tackett, don't worry, we'll sort it out." Dominic forced himself to stay calm.
"Cut the crap, show me results!" The video call ended abruptly.
Dominic's face was dark as a storm cloud.
He turned to Cecilia, who was calmly packing up her stuff.
"I'll wait till your company sorts its mess before we talk next steps!" Cecilia said coolly, catching Dominic's glare.
To Dominic, it felt like she was rubbing it in.
He glared at Cecilia.
Even without proof, he just knew Cecilia had a hand in this.
What was she scheming this time?
In this international e-commerce gig, the Lockhart Group got some good PR, but the real winners were the Tackett Group and his Kingsley Group. The Lockhart Group didn't make much cash. He'd been secretly laughing at Cecilia's naivety. Despite all the crap he'd taken, he swallowed his pride, thinking the Kingsley Group needed the dough more than the rep right now.
But now, this.
Dominic clenched his teeth.
He couldn't let Cecilia get away with this.
He had to figure out what was going on, pronto!
Then he stormed out of the conference room.
Seeing Dominic leave, Penelope quickly followed. As she left, she shot a defiant look at Cecilia and said, "Don't get cocky! Our family will be just fine!"
Cecilia just shrugged, looking totally unfazed and full of disdain.
Penelope saw Cecilia's attitude and was so mad she could scream.
One day, Dominic would make her pay big time!
The conference room was now just Cecilia and her crew.
Rose couldn't help but ask, "Ms. Lockhart, what's the deal with the Kingsley Group? Why'd they nab Mr. Kingsley?"
Cecilia chuckled, "They're in deep trouble, that's for sure!"
Rose looked puzzled.
"We'll just sit back and enjoy the show," Cecilia said with a sly smile.
Rose still didn't get it.
Pierce was also a bit lost.
But he figured sticking with Cecilia was the smart move!
And honestly, he was kinda excited to see the drama unfold!
Dominic had taken off from the Kingsley Group for the meeting, so he hopped in his car and made a call.
Sebastian picked up, "Mr. Kingsley."
"What the hell is going on? Nathaniel got hauled off! They said it's for loan fraud. What’s happening?" Dominic yelled.
"I have no idea what you're talking about, Mr. Kingsley," Sebastian played dumb.
"Sebastian!" Dominic exploded.
In a flash, he knew Sebastian was behind this mess.
"You set me up!" Dominic snarled.
"I really don't know what you're talking about, Mr. Kingsley. If you mean the billion-dollar loan, I can tell you your property deed is fake. Our company found out and handed it over to the authorities. You can follow up through legal channels."
"I'll kill you!" Dominic threatened.
Sebastian's face darkened.
He didn't want to do this either, but he had to protect himself.
"Mr. Kingsley, murder's illegal. You should focus on clearing your name. Otherwise, everyone involved will face the music."
"You're threatening me!" Dominic fumed.
"I'm just giving you a heads-up, Mr. Kingsley," Sebastian said coolly.
"Sebastian, I have proof you caused Seraphina's miscarriage. If you screw me over, I'll expose your crimes too!" Dominic spat.
Right now, Dominic was so mad he could strangle him.
He never thought Sebastian would turn on him.
He never expected Sebastian to have the guts, so he didn't cover his tracks well, leaving a trail of evidence.
In other words, he had no solid proof of Sebastian's involvement in their shady dealings!
Sebastian's eyes narrowed, "You have evidence, and so do I. Compared to your bright future, I have nothing to lose."
"Sebastian!" Dominic growled.
"How you handle this is up to you, Mr. Kingsley. I've given you all the advice I can. Think carefully and don't wreck your future."
With that, Sebastian hung up.
Dominic was so furious he chucked his phone.
His hands were shaking as he gripped the steering wheel.
He thought the international e-commerce project would get the Kingsley Group's cash flow back on track and even boost the whole project.
Dominic thought, 'Cecilia, you better not be behind this, or you're in deep trouble!'
