Chapter 489 The Game (27) Dominic's Embarrassment
When Dominic got Penelope's call, he was in his office, feeling like he was sitting on a cactus.
Earlier that morning, he had to bite the bullet and talk to Bill about the mess with the Lockhart Group. With the e-commerce project on ice, Bill was the one taking the biggest hit. Bill would definitely try to smooth things over, and Cecilia was always respectful to Bill.
But that was just a guess, no guarantees.
He didn't dare to make any calls about Cecilia now.
Cecilia had gotten so powerful that no one could rein her in.
Dominic was jittery and quickly picked up the call when he saw it was Penelope, "Did the Lockhart Group call?"
"They just did. They want us at their office to talk about the e-commerce project in half an hour, or the deal's off."
"Got it." Dominic was a bit pumped and quickly told Penelope, "Get to the Lockhart Group on time!"
"Dominic, do we really need to kiss up to Cecilia this much?" Penelope asked.
"Didn't you learn anything yet?" Dominic snapped and didn't have time to argue with Penelope. "If you're late, don't blame me for coming down hard on you!"
With that, Penelope abruptly hung up and Dominic rushed out of his office.
Just as he stepped out, he ran into Alaric.
Alaric frowned at Dominic's frazzled look and smirked. "What's up, Mr. Kingsley? Why do you look so freaked out?"
Dominic tried to calm down.
In all these years, he had never been as humiliated as he was lately.
He glared at Alaric.
He glared at Alaric, who he had always looked down on, now standing there all confident and smug, soaking in Dominic's embarrassment.
He gritted his teeth and walked past Alaric coldly.
Alaric watched Dominic's back and could almost guess what had him so rattled.
It was probably because Cecilia had decided to talk about the e-commerce project.
Even though he wasn't directly involved, he had Cassius feeding him updates. If needed, he could jump in and help.
He had definitely underestimated Cecilia.
Handling Dominic was a walk in the park for her, so he decided to sit back and enjoy the show.
He casually called out to Dominic's retreating figure, "I heard that from now on, I'll be your direct supervisor."
Dominic's hurried steps suddenly halted, and he turned to look at Alaric.
During the six months Alaric had been away, Dominic had been climbing the ranks. Since it was done on the down-low, it wasn't widely known. Now, his position was the same as the one Alaric had applied for.
Even if Alaric came back, they'd be on equal footing.
"Due to my performance in Harborvale, the higher-ups promoted me directly." Alaric's tone was casual, but it almost made Dominic blow a fuse.
In the end, he said nothing and quickly left.
He got into his car and sped off.
Cecilia's humiliation was bad enough, but to be crushed by Alaric too? It was unbearable.
Luckily, Dominic was still a rational guy.
He knew he had to sort out the e-commerce project first, or the Kingsley Group might go under.
He parked his car at the Lockhart Group.
As he got out, he called Penelope, "Where are you?"
"I'm pulling over," Penelope snapped.
"Hurry up, I'm waiting at the entrance!" Dominic barked.
Penelope hung up, her face twisted in frustration.
Cecilia had pushed her to the edge!
She had never been so humiliated in her life.
She had never feared anyone.
Now she was being forced to grovel to Cecilia.
She got out of the car, fuming, and stormed towards the entrance.
Dominic shot Penelope a cold look and led her into the Lockhart Group.
Since they had an appointment, they went straight in.
Penelope had never been to the Lockhart Group before.
As soon as she walked in, she was floored by the place's luxury.
She had always thought of Cecilia as just one of Dominic's flings, a nobody. She had never imagined Cecilia had such a powerful background and wealth. Walking through the hall, which was more impressive than the Kingsley Group's, she couldn't help but feel a bit of fear towards Cecilia.
The elevator took them to Cecilia's office floor.
Dominic approached Rose, saying, "I'm here to see Ms. Lockhart."
"Please wait a moment," Rose said politely.
She knocked and entered Cecilia's office. "The people from the Kingsley Group are here."
"Let them in."
"Yes." Rose stepped out and said, "Please."
Dominic nodded slightly, still keeping his cool.
He knocked on Cecilia's office door.
Cecilia was sitting behind a massive desk, dressed in a sharp business suit. Her tall, slender figure immediately drew attention, and her stunning face radiated a charm that made her unforgettable in any setting.
Dominic stared at her.
For the first time, he felt a sense of distance between him and Cecilia.
Cecilia seemed to have left him far behind.
He gritted his teeth but wouldn't let anyone's aura diminish his own.
He and Penelope walked in without showing any emotion, heading straight for Cecilia.
Cecilia set aside the documents she was working on and spoke into the intercom, "Rose, come in for a moment."
"Yes." Rose entered respectfully.
Cecilia said directly, "The documents are all processed. Send them to the General Department for archiving. Verify the archived information."
"Yes." Rose left with a stack of documents.
After finishing her work, Cecilia finally addressed Dominic and Penelope, who were standing in front of her. "Have a seat."
Dominic and Penelope sat down.
Penelope found it hard to swallow.
Why was Cecilia now so high and mighty in front of them?
"Mr. Tackett called me and said you sincerely want to transfer the e-commerce platform to me," Cecilia spoke in a businesslike manner.
Dominic took the prepared materials from Penelope and handed them to Cecilia. "This is the transfer contract for the e-commerce platform from the Kingsley Group. You can take a look."
Cecilia took it and looked it over seriously.
She said, "Four billion dollars?"
"This is the market valuation. Here's the valuation report." As he spoke, Dominic handed it to Cecilia.
Cecilia didn't even glance at it and said directly, "I'm well aware of the market valuation. Originally, I was planning to buy it for four billion dollars, but you know, last time I went to your company for this, we had such an unpleasant encounter, and now you want me to buy it at the same price? Who's going to compensate for the grievances I suffered before?"
