Chapter 193 Trouble (4) Is Alaric a murderous maniac?
"You really wanna know?" Rebecca smirked at Cecilia.
Cecilia stayed quiet, trying to buy time. She wasn't sure if Rebecca was telling the truth but believed Alaric would come to save her.
"I'm not telling you," Rebecca sneered. "Only Alaric's closest and most trusted know who he really is and what he wants. You're not one of them!"
"Even if Alaric's busy and can't save me, he'll come after you if you kill me," Cecilia shot back.
Rebecca laughed mockingly. "You think too highly of yourself! Alaric would never kill me. I once had an abortion for him."
Cecilia's face changed. She always thought Alaric was a player but never believed he'd mess with someone's life like that. She thought he had limits.
"Jealous?" Rebecca taunted, noticing Cecilia's reaction.
"No," Cecilia replied, staring at Rebecca. "It just shows how little Alaric cares about you. If he had any conscience, he wouldn't harm a woman like that. How little must he care to let you go through an abortion?"
Rebecca's face turned cold. "You have no idea what happened between us, so how can you be so sure Alaric doesn't care about me?" she yelled.
Cecilia didn't know, but she was stalling. She knew Rebecca didn't kill her at the car accident scene because she wanted to torture her. If she showed weakness, Rebecca might kill her right away. She had to provoke Rebecca, make her think killing her would be too easy.
"Yes, Alaric doesn't care about me," Rebecca suddenly admitted, alarming Cecilia. She feared Rebecca might kill her now.
"To be precise, Alaric doesn't care about anyone, including you! He'll kill anyone in his way, but not for you," Rebecca said firmly.
Cecilia was confused. Was Alaric a homicidal maniac?
"Alaric's recklessness is reserved for one person, and it's neither me nor you!" Rebecca laughed maniacally. "Do you feel the same jealousy? No matter how hard you try, you'll never be the most important person in Alaric's heart," Rebecca taunted.
"What are you talking about?" Cecilia frowned, genuinely confused by Rebecca's rant. It seemed like Rebecca was venting years of pent-up frustration, and Cecilia couldn't follow.
"It doesn't matter if you don't get it. You don't have the right to know. But before you die, let me balance the scales a bit. I might die, maybe even by Alaric's hand, but it won't be because of you," Rebecca said coldly, almost as if she saw her own tragic end.
Cecilia watched Rebecca's emotional outburst, finding it unexpected. She wondered if Rebecca intended to die with her. If so, that was alarming. If someone wasn't afraid of death, what else would they fear?
"Cecilia, you should actually thank me," Rebecca said, staring intently. "Thank me for ending your life. If you died at Alaric's hands, it would be a hundred times worse."
'Why would I die at Alaric's hands?' Cecilia thought. 'Who is Alaric really? Why does he make Rebecca this scared?'
"Rebecca, I don't know if you're just overstimulated or trying to tell me something real. Honestly, I never cared about your relationship with Alaric or what kind of person he is. Alaric and I are in a fake marriage. All our intimacy is just for show. We made a deal, a win-win cooperation," Cecilia laid it all out. "Even when I threatened you, saying Alaric would kill you for me, it was just to get you to back off. I know better than you that Alaric wouldn't do anything for me."
Rebecca, seemingly fearless now, listened. What she cared about most was whether Alaric liked her. She couldn't accept the idea of Alaric loving another woman. She'd rather he loved no one.
Rebecca's face changed slightly, showing a flicker of emotion. But it lasted only a few seconds. "I also thought you two were in a fake marriage. From what I know about Alaric, he couldn't fall in love with anyone. But Jasper told me Alaric has adored you for a long time."
Rebecca knew Jasper wouldn't lie. So, even though she acted dismissive, she started to believe Alaric had feelings for Cecilia. Alaric really adored her.
Cecilia, in disbelief, denied it. "Impossible."
