Chapter 658 The Powerful Dashiell
Dashiell gave a slight nod.
He wasn't scared, just needed a moment to get his thoughts in order.
He got up and walked into the executive meeting room.
By now, the other execs were already trickling in.
As soon as Dashiell showed up, all eyes were on him.
Seraphina's too.
She couldn't wrap her head around why so many people were against Dashiell becoming the general manager.
Yesterday, she had Sebastian pull the news report, but today it was blowing up even more.
She went to see Sebastian first thing in the morning, and he swore it wasn't his doing.
Of course, she believed him; she just needed to be sure.
If it wasn't Sebastian, then who had it out for Dashiell?
Seraphina always thought that with Dashiell's skills, everyone on the board, except maybe Atticus, should be backing him as the general manager. But Atticus was clearly on Dashiell's side, so what was everyone else's deal?
Seraphina was annoyed but had to keep it together in this setting.
Once everyone was there, the meeting kicked off.
Atticus didn't waste any time. "I called this emergency meeting to clear up the issue of Dashiell's appointment! First off, him being the general manager of Everhart Bank is the most logical choice, and there should be no objections. I won't hear any arguments. I don't want to repeat myself."
Right from the jump, Atticus made his stance crystal clear.
Sebastian's face darkened.
He knew Atticus would back Dashiell, but hearing it out loud still stung.
Atticus went on, "Second, the media's criticism of Dashiell's appointment clearly started from within. The person responsible isn't low-ranking. I get your sense of fairness, so I won't dig into it for now. But you better sort this out yourselves. If I have to step in, there will be no mercy!"
The room got tense.
No one expected Atticus to go this hard for Dashiell.
The room fell silent.
No one even dared to breathe too loudly.
Atticus losing his cool was a big deal at Everhart Bank.
Who'd want to cross him now?
A few board members exchanged uneasy glances.
They had planned to pressure Dashiell into quitting and force Atticus's hand, but they didn't expect Atticus to stand so firmly by Dashiell.
Atticus would rather face public backlash than let Dashiell step down.
In the thick tension of the room, Atticus spoke coldly again, "This better not happen again!"
With that, he got up to leave.
"Mr. Everhart," Dashiell suddenly called out.
Atticus paused.
"Since the board has such strong opinions about me, I think I owe them an explanation," Dashiell said, standing up.
Atticus's eyes flashed with worry.
He knew Dashiell too well and feared he might do something drastic.
Even Seraphina felt a pang of anxiety, thinking Dashiell might fall into the board's trap out of pride."Your achievements speak for themselves," Atticus said firmly. "Remember what I told you."
He meant not to let anyone push him around.
Dashiell nodded. "I remember, but as a leader, if I can't reassure the team, it's hard to do my job right."
"Dashiell," Atticus tried to cut him off.
He could almost predict what Dashiell was about to say.
But Dashiell acted like he didn't hear him.
He stood up and said, "I made a promise, and I'm not going back on it."
Atticus's face darkened.
Dashiell was stubborn as a mule.
Seraphina watched him closely.
Dashiell knew he was being set up, yet he was willing to walk right into the trap for his pride. Why?
Sebastian secretly chuckled at Dashiell's words.
In the end, his plan was working.
Yesterday, Sebastian had canceled the news report in front of Seraphina just to show her. She had asked him not to target Dashiell, but he had made the news bigger on purpose, hoping to force Dashiell to quit.
Over the years, he had figured Dashiell out a bit. Dashiell always did things by the book and couldn't stand any criticism.
This was one of the main reasons Sebastian thought Dashiell wasn't cut out for the corporate world.
In business, who wasn't a bit sneaky?
Sebastian felt a sense of victory.
On the surface, he kept a straight face.
The other board members jumped on Dashiell's words, "Mr. Rainier, are you saying you want to resign?"
Dashiell's eyes narrowed.
The sudden intensity made the board members a bit nervous.
Jeffrey quickly added, "I'm just asking, Mr. Rainier. Don't get me wrong."
Dashiell glanced at Jeffrey and said, "I promised to increase Everhart Bank's net profit by forty percent."
"But it's not even ten percent now," Jeffrey shot back.
Hearing this, Sebastian also secretly smirked.
The promise Dashiell made back then was a pipe dream.
The fact that Dashiell was still bringing it up now was just embarrassing.
"But if someone deposits $100 billion into Everhart Bank at the current market interest rate for a ten-year term, would that bring the net profit to over forty percent?" Dashiell said slowly.
"Where did you get such a deal?" Jeffrey scoffed. "$100 billion, at the base interest rate, for ten years!"
No company in the entire Yakurosean Empire could match that figure.
While many wealthy individuals might have that kind of money, the idea of leaving it in a bank for ten years was just crazy.
Did Dashiell even know what he was talking about?
The wealthier someone was, the more they needed their money to be liquid.
Who in their right mind would lock up such a huge sum in a bank for ten years, letting the bank profit from it?
"This is the contract," Dashiell said, cutting to the chase. He pulled out the contract.
He placed it in front of the board members.
Naturally, they were skeptical.
They immediately grabbed it and started reading.
When they saw the depositor's name, they couldn't help but gasp. The depositor was Dashiell himself.
Did Dashiell have $100 billion?
Where did he get that kind of money?
Wasn't Dashiell an illegitimate child? And he was only 23 years old.
Where did he get such a massive fortune?
The room was filled with shock.
