Chapter 349 Why Can't Ms. Everhart See it?
"Ms. Everhart." Lucy was freaked out.
Right then, Dashiell, who was chilling on the sofa, wheeled himself over fast 'cause Seraphina started coughing like crazy.
He saw Seraphina finally managed to swallow the oatmeal, her eyes all red. She snapped at Lucy, "You trying to burn me alive? Thought I would be a goner!"
"I told you it was hot," Lucy mumbled, feeling all wronged.
"Who told you to make it so damn hot?" Seraphina shot back, totally unreasonable.
"It won't cook right if it's not hot..."
"Lucy," Dashiell cut in, "go get another bowl."
"Got it." Lucy, holding back her frustration, headed to the kitchen.
A bit later, she came back with a small soup bowl.
Dashiell grabbed the spoon Seraphina had tossed on the table, scooped some oatmeal into the small bowl, stirred it, and blew on it before putting it in front of Seraphina. "Here, it's not hot now."
Seraphina gave Dashiell a look.
"Aren't you hungry?" Dashiell tried to stay cool.
His words just made Seraphina's stomach growl louder.
She figured she shouldn't fight her hunger, so she picked up the spoon and started eating.
After almost getting burned, Seraphina carefully touched the oatmeal with her lips first to make sure it wasn't too hot.
Meanwhile, Dashiell asked Lucy to bring another bowl and spoon.
So, as Seraphina ate, Dashiell kept cooling the oatmeal. When she finished one bowl, he handed her another.
This way, Seraphina ate comfortably.
Lucy, watching from the side, burst out laughing.
Seraphina frowned, her face darkening. "What's so funny?"
Lucy stifled her laughter and blurted out, "Looks like Mr. Rainier's taking care of a kid."
Seraphina's face turned stormy.
Lucy quickly straightened up.
She just thought the scene was kinda sweet, that's all.
Lucy thought, 'Ms. Everhart sure gets mad easy.'
"Lucy," Dashiell suddenly said, "go get another bowl."
Lucy nodded quickly.
Dashiell kept cooling Seraphina's oatmeal.
"I can eat by myself." Seraphina started to push back against Dashiell's help.
Dashiell pressed his lips together but didn't leave.
He kept cooling the oatmeal.
"Dashiell, I said leave, I can eat by myself..."
"I'm not taking care of you," Dashiell cut off Seraphina's irritation, "I'm taking care of my kid."
Seraphina looked like she was about to blow up, "How do you know?"
"Cecilia told me."
"Fuck." Seraphina knew Cecilia couldn't be trusted.
She thought, 'Who's really her best friend here?'
"Since you know, let's cut to the chase," Seraphina said firmly to Dashiell, "I never planned to keep it."
Dashiell's face changed, but he stayed silent.
Seraphina was visibly upset. "Just now, when Cecilia was here, she kept trying to convince me to keep the baby, giving all these reasons, and I get it. But, Cecilia isn't me; she doesn't know how painful this marriage is for me, she doesn't know how hard it is being pregnant with your kid, so I didn't argue with her, not because I gave in, but because I didn't want to fight with her over you, it's not worth it. And now, I want to make it crystal clear to you, I won't keep this baby, no matter how much you push me, I won't! Marrying you was already my limit, having a kid with you, over my dead body!"
Dashiell's hand froze mid-air, spoon in hand.
Just before Cecilia left, she assured him that no matter what Seraphina said, she wouldn't break her promise to her.
But hearing Seraphina say she didn't want this kid, didn't want to have a kid with him, and that this marriage was pure hell for her, it still stung.
Thinking about it and actually hearing it were two different beasts.
He'd spent all night imagining how Seraphina would react.
He'd pictured a thousand worst-case scenarios.
But nothing compared to the real deal of hearing it straight from her.
Dashiell's silence only made Seraphina more pissed, "Anyway, I'm not keeping it. I'm not asking for your opinion, just letting you know."
"Think about it," Dashiell finally said.
His deep voice had a hint of pleading.
But Seraphina didn't catch it.
All she heard was Dashiell trying to stop her, making things harder.
"No need to think. I never wanted a kid with you."
"The kid's innocent."
"I'm even more innocent!" Seraphina's voice rose, "Dashiell, if you hadn't forced me into this marriage with your dirty tricks, I wouldn't have slept with you, let alone gotten pregnant! I could've had a happy marriage and life, but you ruined it all! And now you want me to have your kid? You might as well just kill me!"
Seraphina's anger was boiling over.
She was seriously at her breaking point.
Her marriage with Dashiell was already a nightmare, and now she was pregnant, dealing with brutal morning sickness. She couldn't keep her emotions in check.
She just wanted to cut ties with Dashiell, go all out, and never see him again.
But Dashiell chose silence again.
Every damn time, he was silent.
No matter what she said, Dashiell just clammed up.
"Dashiell, I'll say it again, I'm not discussing this with you, I'm just informing you..."
Dashiell suddenly put down the bowl and spoon and wheeled himself away.
Seraphina watched him, her anger blazing.
She watched as Dashiell wheeled himself to his room and shut the door.
In a daze, she even heard the door lock click.
"Dashiell!" Seraphina was ready to explode.
She thought, 'Fuck! At least say something!'
Seraphina was so mad she was practically shaking.
Lucy, standing by, finally found the courage to speak, "Ms. Everhart, don't be angry, it's not good for the baby."
"He knows it's not good, yet he still pisses me off!" Seraphina yelled.
Clearly, she was shouting at Dashiell.
"Mr. Rainier probably didn't mean to. After all, you just said you wanted to abort his child, and he couldn't stop you. What else could he do but avoid you?" Lucy said, feeling helpless.
She thought, 'I can see Mr. Rainier's feelings clear as day. Why can't Ms. Everhart see it?'
