Chapter 756 I Won't Let You Leave
Cecilia's fingers twitched slightly.
Her obvious refusal was something Alaric could feel.
But he didn't let go.
He knew she didn't like it, but he still didn't let go.
Cecilia asked him, holding back, "Is there anything else?"
"I just said, we're only divorced in name."
"I also just said, we broke up amicably." She thought she had said enough for Alaric to agree.
Alaric looked at Cecilia intently and said, "I'm sorry. I won't let you leave."
"Alaric." Cecilia's face clearly changed.
"You'll stay here, and I'll come back when I can," Alaric said coldly.
His tone was one that allowed no refusal.
"Do you really have to do this?" Cecilia asked coldly.
"I have to," Alaric said bluntly.
Cecilia's throat moved slightly.
When Alaric made a decision, she couldn't change it.
She felt a bit sarcastic and said, "So even if we're divorced, I still have to live in your house and wait for you to come back and favor me when you have time?"
Alaric pursed his lips.
Being mocked by Cecilia, his face didn't look good either.
"Alaric, you've really changed my opinion of you."
"Cecilia, you'll understand why I'm doing this in the future," Alaric said word by word.
He seemed to really have his reasons.
Alaric indeed had many reasons.
But so what?
Are there not enough people in this world with reasons?
Can you do whatever you want just because you have reasons?
Cecilia wasn't angry.
Really, she didn't want to be angry with Alaric.
Since the accident, during the long period of preserving and nurturing the pregnancy, she seemed to have gotten used to accepting everything calmly.
She wasn't angry now either.
She just felt a bit pathetic.
She said sincerely, "Alaric, since it's something for the future, can't we deal with it later?"
"No," Alaric refused outright.
If they waited until later, she wouldn't come back.
No matter how big the reason, if she left, she would definitely leave.
Cecilia laughed.
She laughed lightly.
Alaric looked at her smile, feeling a pang in his heart.
But he still held her hand tightly, getting closer and closer.
In the silent hall.
Alaric and Cecilia just looked at each other.
Neither of them compromised.
Cecilia wouldn't compromise, but she knew very well that she couldn't resist.
She said, "Alaric, you've really disappointed me."
Alaric nodded.
He knew.
When he made up his mind to do this, he knew he had hurt Cecilia deeply.
But he couldn't let her leave.
Just the thought of her leaving was unbearable.
"Can you let go of me?" Cecilia asked.
Alaric didn't let go.
"There are so many bodyguards at home, even if I wanted to escape, I couldn't," Cecilia said sarcastically.
Alaric's fingers seemed to loosen a bit.
With just a slight relaxation, Cecilia forcefully pulled her hand away from his.
Alaric's hand was empty, and he instinctively wanted to grab her hand again but forced himself to let go.
"I used to think you were protecting me and the baby's safety," Cecilia sneered, "Turns out you were just monitoring me, making sure I didn't run away."
When she couldn't leave earlier and was forcibly confined at home by the bodyguards, she resented Alaric, but she only resented him for not answering the phone. She didn't think having so many people watching her was completely unacceptable. After experiencing life and death, she actually craved safety.
Now she realized it was all her wishful thinking.
Had she expected too much from Alaric?
Cecilia turned to leave.
Alaric reached out to grab her again.
Cecilia quickly avoided it.
Alaric's arm awkwardly hung in mid-air.
"Can't leave this villa, do I not even have the right to move freely?" Cecilia asked him.
Alaric was simply afraid she couldn't accept the current situation. He worried she might do something drastic.
"If that's the case, may I ask Mr. Whitaker, can I go back to my room to rest now?" Cecilia's calm tone hurt him more than a sharp sword to the chest.
In a low, almost hoarse voice, he said, "Cecilia, don't be like this."
"It's you who's like this."
"I just want us to be okay..."
"If you wanted us to be okay, you wouldn't force me like this," Cecilia interrupted him, "Because you know well enough what would hurt the other person the most. Alaric, you've done it now, and I will gradually do it too."
Cecilia wasn't threatening.
If they were going to hurt each other, then let it be mutual.
Alaric pressed his lips tightly.
His body seemed to have stiffened.
The arm he reached out to grab her hand hung in mid-air, and now he silently lowered it.
He said, "One day you'll understand me."
"I never will," Cecilia said, leaving those words behind.
She turned and left again.
Cecilia wasn't trying to scare Alaric.
Even if the world were ending, she wouldn't understand him.
Hiding things from her was something she could never forgive.
Especially hiding things that hurt her!
Cecilia returned to the bedroom and lay on the bed.
She didn't appear as calm as she did when she was alone, only then did she truly feel the unbearable pain in her heart.
She probably wouldn't meet a good husband in this lifetime.
Fate had clearly given her a chance to start over, but she still didn't learn her lesson and ended up repeating the same mistakes.
Cecilia lay on the bed, thinking about every little thing from the past.
The more beautiful the past was, the more painful the present was.
Her tears silently fell from her eyes.
She didn't intend to cry.
But she didn't think she was crying either.
It was just that the tears wouldn't stop.
When people are sad, they can't control their body's natural reactions.
The door suddenly opened.
Cecilia closed her eyes and then wiped her tears away with her hand.
She felt footsteps behind her.
Cecilia pretended she didn't hear anything.
Slowly.
It seemed like the bed beside her sank a little.
So, Alaric got on the bed.
She actually knew he was tired. From the first moment she saw him, seeing the heavy dark circles under his eyes, she knew he needed sleep.
She couldn't really drive Alaric away.
After all, this was his place.
Even if she wanted to drive him away, she couldn't.
She could only leave herself.
Just as she was about to move.
"I won't touch you," Alaric's voice sounded in her ear.
Cecilia pursed her lips.
At that moment, it seemed like Alaric's body moved a little to the side.
The distance between them on the large bed was very far.
Cecilia didn't move.
It wasn't that she felt the distance Alaric kept was acceptable, she was just thinking.
What kind of way could really make Alaric let her go?
