Chapter 567 Alaric's Hospitalization

Cecilia threw on her clothes in a rush, but messed up the buttons. With a nudge from Alaric, she fixed them.

Once she was dressed, Cecilia, hands shaking, helped Alaric get his clothes on.

"Cecilia," Alaric called out.

He leaned against the headboard, watching quietly as Cecilia, her hands trembling, took care of him.

"What?" she replied, trying to keep it together, trying not to fall apart.

Cecilia kept telling herself that Alaric wouldn't die. He hadn't died in her previous life, at least not while she was around.

Someone like Alaric couldn't have such a short life, but she was scared that her actions had changed things, changed him.

Thinking about it, tears welled up in her eyes. She bit her lip hard, draining the color from it.

"I won't die," Alaric said again, firmly.

He was so weak he could barely speak, yet he still tried to comfort her.

Cecilia just nodded silently.

After getting Alaric dressed, she quickly opened the door and called for George and Augustus. They rushed up as soon as they heard her.

Seeing the bloodstains on the bed, Augustus and George exchanged a look.

George couldn't help but say, "We get it, you two haven't seen each other in a while, but this is a bit much..."

Cecilia was speechless. Even George misunderstood.

"It's Alaric's blood from vomiting," she explained.

George looked shocked, and Augustus's face showed some unusual reactions too.

"Augustus, help me get Alaric to the hospital," Cecilia instructed.

Augustus nodded and went to help Alaric up. Alaric didn't resist, maybe he didn't have the strength to.

They rushed to the Metropolitan Hospital by car, using the VIP channel for a series of tests.

The final result was a stomach hemorrhage from a perforated ulcer, causing the vomiting of blood. It wasn't stomach cancer.

Cecilia didn't know whether to feel relieved or not. As long as Alaric didn't die, nothing else mattered.

In the doctor's office, the doctor said, "Mr. Whitaker's condition is severe and needs surgery."

"He needs surgery?" Cecilia asked.

"Yes," the doctor confirmed.

Cecilia looked at Alaric; he didn't look good. But he tried to comfort her, saying, "It's not as bad as you think."

"It's very serious," the doctor corrected.

Cecilia glared at Alaric.

"The pain from a perforated ulcer is unimaginable unless experienced," the doctor said seriously. "I recommend immediate surgery."

As Alaric started to speak, Cecilia quickly covered his mouth. "No more talking," she commanded.

Alaric looked at her, and Cecilia turned to the doctor. "Let's do the surgery right away."

"Alright," the doctor nodded. "We'll admit him and run some tests. If everything's clear, we'll schedule the surgery immediately."

"Thank you," Cecilia said, asking the doctor about precautions.

To keep Alaric from talking, she kept her hand on his mouth.

At that moment, she felt a warm sensation in her palm. Alaric was on the brink of death, yet he was licking her hand.

Well, a perforated ulcer wouldn't kill him.

Cecilia let go of Alaric's mouth.

She saw a mischievous glint in Alaric's eyes. His plan had worked.

Cecilia clenched her fist, cursing Alaric in her heart. Even in such a weak state, he was still flirting with her.

It was only through the doctor's explanation that she understood how painful a perforated ulcer was.

Despite the pain, how could Alaric still think about teasing her?

The more the doctor spoke, the darker Cecilia's face became.

After a while, Cecilia and Augustus helped Alaric out of the doctor's office and into the ward.

After helping Alaric lie down, Cecilia finally couldn't hold back, "Alaric, why didn't you tell me you were in so much pain?"

In the ward, Alaric looked at her and noticed something was off about her face. He opened his mouth to speak.

"Don't talk," Cecilia suddenly demanded. "I'm afraid I'll cry if you talk."

Alaric chuckled lightly. How could Cecilia be so cute?

"From now on, don't hide anything from me. Tell me if you're in pain, if you're uncomfortable. Don't endure everything alone," Cecilia pleaded, her eyes red.

Alaric felt a deep warmth in his heart.

If he told Cecilia now that he didn't tell her about his condition because he wanted to make love to her first, would she beat him to death?

His smile deepened at the thought.

The pain in his stomach had long become a numb routine. Back when he was imprisoned, the initial outbreak of the perforated ulcer was so excruciating that it nearly killed him.

He suddenly pulled the chattering Cecilia into his arms.

Cecilia didn't let him talk, so he could only hold her.

Cecilia felt touched, yet it was clear she was very angry—so angry that she was on the verge of tears.

Alaric, clearly a playboy, only knew how to indulge in pleasure, but how could he now be so heart-wrenching?

Cecilia leaned into Alaric's embrace. Despite being as thin as a skeleton, he still had the nerve to hold her—and she was still moved by his embrace.

She buried her face in his chest and said, "Alaric, don't hide anything from me ever again!"

"Okay," Alaric responded.

With that response, his body suddenly twitched. It seemed like he was about to vomit, but it might have been an illusion.

Cecilia quickly moved away from Alaric's embrace, watching his tightly closed lips and the bobbing of his Adam's apple.

"Alaric, don't swallow it!" Cecilia was on the verge of breaking down.

She wondered how Alaric could endure so much.

Yet Alaric still didn't spit out the blood.

He looked at Cecilia's worried expression and slowly said, "I need to maintain my composure."

Cecilia really wanted to punch Alaric to death.

Fortunately, at that moment, numerous doctors and nurses arrived to conduct Alaric's pre-surgery tests. They drew a lot of his blood, which made Cecilia's heart ache.

All of Alaric's test results were in by 3 PM, and the surgery was scheduled for 3:30.

Cecilia was very nervous.

Alaric tried to comfort her, saying, "It's a minor surgery; don't be afraid."

How could she not be afraid?

As Alaric was being wheeled into the operating room, she shouted at his back, "If you dare die on the operating table, I'll marry someone else immediately!"
