Chapter 515 Outburst (8) Cecilia, You Are Capable
"It's not a threat. He just seems so sure of himself," Cecilia said, trying to keep her cool. "I have no idea what shady stuff Dominic's been up to behind our backs."
"We should've taken him out sooner!" Cassius growled, clenching his teeth.
Cecilia shot Cassius a look but kept quiet.
"Forget it," she said. "That call from Dominic was just to mess with us, to make us lose our cool. I had a thought during the call. The best way to get to Alaric's place is to create a distraction."
"What do you mean?" Cassius asked, looking serious.
"Make them think we're headed somewhere else, not Alaric's house," Cecilia explained. "I've thought it through. The place that would really freak them out and make them go all out to stop us is the State Office in Harborvale."
"So, you want them to think we're going to the State Office? And then we sneak over to Alaric's place while they're distracted?"
"Exactly." Cecilia nodded, glancing at Cassius's leg.
Cassius said bluntly, "Just say it. As long as I'm breathing, I can do anything."
Cecilia bit her lip lightly.
What was the deal between Cassius and Alaric? Why was Cassius willing to risk everything for him?
But she didn't ask.
"Tomorrow, you head to the State Office. Sneak in first, then gradually make yourself known. Make it look real. Once you've got their attention, Augustus and I will head to Alaric's house. I thought about sending Augustus with you for backup, but I can't handle it alone. If we get caught, we won't escape easily, just like last time, and in the end, it takes all of you a lot of effort to save me."
Cecilia spoke plainly, but it still felt awkward to say it out loud.
Sometimes, she felt completely useless.
Cassius, on the other hand, appreciated Cecilia's straightforwardness.
A lot of people, especially in business, used the most hypocritical ways to get what they wanted. Cecilia didn't beat around the bush. She made it clear she needed Augustus, even though she knew Cassius needed him too. She stuck to her principles.
Cassius said, "Don't worry, I got this."
"Okay," Cecilia said.
She added seriously, "Tomorrow, when you go to the State Office, you might get detained for trespassing. So, be ready. According to the law here, it shouldn't be a crime, but given the current situation, you'll probably be held for a while."
"I don't mind being detained. I'm more worried about whether you can handle things on your own."
"I have no choice," Cecilia said.
"Alright." Cassius didn't argue.
Alaric had said before that if anything happened to him, Cassius should listen to Cecilia.
Since Alaric trusted Cecilia so much, Cassius had no reason to doubt her.
"If I get detained and you need help, find Dashiell," Cassius said. "Don't just think of him as your childhood buddy or a genius hacker. He's got skills and influence just like mine. If I'm not around, he can handle things."
Cecilia frowned.
Cassius added, "Don't ask anything. One day, you'll know the whole truth. But it won't come from me or Dashiell. Maybe you'll figure it out yourself, or maybe Alaric will tell you."
"Okay." Cecilia nodded and checked the time. "It's late. Let's get some rest and go our separate ways tomorrow."
"Alright."
Cecilia got up to head upstairs.
As she was leaving, she turned back and said, "I don't know who you all really are or how powerful you are. I will never be a burden to you. If I ever become a hindrance, I'll leave on my own."
Cassius was stunned.
He hadn't expected Cecilia to say something like that.
None of them had ever said Cecilia was a burden. When Alaric first chose to be with Cecilia, they were surprised but didn't think it was inappropriate. They didn't expect Cecilia to bring them any significant benefits and were prepared to help her with many things.
He had indeed helped Cecilia with some things, but they were all minor and didn't require much effort.
On the contrary, Cecilia was always calm and composed when they encountered problems, saving them a lot of trouble.
Could it be that Cecilia was feeling insecure, thinking she was insignificant in their world?
Cassius smiled slightly and said, "Cecilia, are you doubting yourself?"
Cecilia looked at Cassius, saying, "I always feel like I'm far away from you all."
"Not at all. You probably don't know, but we've been watching you grow up," Cassius said with a sly smile.
Cecilia was completely shocked.
She couldn't help but ask, "Are you guys also resurrected or time travelers or..."
"What are you thinking!" Cassius was speechless. "I meant we've been by your side since childhood, but you never noticed us. Of course, we noticed you because Alaric liked you since you were little! Otherwise, do you really think Alaric would marry you just because you asked? He's so self-disciplined, he wouldn't even touch you, let alone marry you."
Cecilia was even more confused.
What did he mean by self-disciplined?
Was Cassius really talking about Alaric?
Cassius realized he had let something slip. "Anyway, don't belittle yourself! Your abilities have exceeded my expectations! Whether in your world or ours, you're capable! I'm not lying!"
Cecilia was comforted by Cassius's words.
Lately, she had a feeling that Alaric's identity might be astonishing, and that the distance between them would grow.
She took a deep breath, refraining from asking or dwelling further.
The only thing she wanted to do now was to rescue Alaric.
