Chapter 575 Seraphina's Emotional Changes
At that moment, Seraphina was dead sure the person in front of her was Dashiell.
But then, just like that, the touch vanished.
And the eyes that were locked on her? Gone too.
Seraphina wanted to scream Dashiell's name, but it felt like he was drifting away, getting further and further.
Did Dashiell just give up on saving her?
In her heart, Seraphina cried out, 'No. Don't go.'
She couldn't tell if she was more scared of dying or of Dashiell leaving her like this.
She twisted and struggled like crazy.
Then, Dashiell seemed to snap back to reality.
He went for the red wire. It was pure instinct, no fancy technique. If he picked wrong, they were both toast.
He grabbed the dagger and, with a swift motion, cut the wire.
The bomb's countdown, which had been ringing in his ears, suddenly stopped.
The timer paused.
No explosion.
Dashiell, already drenched in sweat, was soaked even more.
Seeing the countdown stop, he collapsed.
He had braced himself for the worst, thinking they'd both be blown to bits. He panted heavily, removing the bomb from Seraphina's ankle.
Just as he was about to carry her away, the bomb, which had stopped counting down, started ticking again.
Dashiell's body tensed. He turned sharply to see the bomb start a 30-second countdown. It was a chain bomb! This meant that after cutting the wire, it would trigger an explosion within ten seconds.
And this time, there was no wire to cut.
Dashiell quickly grabbed the bomb and bolted towards the warehouse exit.
Seraphina only felt a figure dart away from her side, moving like a gust of wind. What was happening?
From start to finish, Seraphina had no clue what she had gone through. Finally, she heard a loud noise, like something had exploded—very close to her.
The sound was terrifying, echoing through the warehouse, but she was unharmed.
Even so, Seraphina was scared out of her mind.
What the heck had happened?
What was the situation now?
Where did Dashiell go?
She tried to stand up, but she was tied up and couldn't move.
She didn't know how long it had been; it felt like forever. Suddenly, the blindfold over her eyes was yanked off. Finally, she could see.
She stared straight at the man in front of her and saw Sebastian. How could it be Sebastian? Shouldn't it be Dashiell?
"Seraphina?" Sebastian was just as shocked to see her.
How could Seraphina be kidnapped in the middle of the night and end up like this?
Her face was pale, and her body was covered in wounds.
What on earth had happened?
Sebastian, worried, looked at Seraphina while removing the cloth from her mouth and the earplugs from her ears.
Seraphina didn't respond for a long time.
She just looked around, searching for Dashiell.
Why couldn't she see Dashiell?
"Seraphina." Sebastian was freaked out by the terror in her eyes. "Don't worry. I'm here. I won't let anything happen to you." He pulled her into a tight hug.
But his warmth couldn't thaw Seraphina's icy body.
She was still searching for Dashiell, still hoping to see him.
'Where is Dashiell? He couldn't just vanish like that,' she thought.
"Don't worry. I'll get you home." Sebastian held her for a bit before gently trying to lift her.
"Where's Dashiell?" Seraphina asked.
Sebastian froze.
He looked straight at her.
"Did you see Dashiell?" she pressed.
"You were the only one here," Sebastian quickly replied. "Did Dashiell kidnap you?"
'No. Dashiell was saving me,' she thought.
"I'll call the cops right now." Sebastian quickly grabbed his phone.
Seraphina caught his hand. "How did you know I was here?" she suddenly asked.
Was it Dashiell who tipped him off?
"I got a call from an unknown number, saying you were here. I was skeptical, but I couldn't reach you, so I came to check. I didn't expect to actually find you. What happened?" Sebastian asked, clearly anxious.
'Wasn't it Dashiell who came to save me?' she wondered.
"I'll take you home first." Sebastian quickly picked her up.
Seraphina didn't resist anymore.
She lay in his arms.
Seeing his worried face, she lowered her eyes.
Her heart ached inexplicably.
She didn't know why she felt so sad.
Sebastian took her home.
He wanted to take her to the hospital, but Seraphina insisted she wasn't seriously hurt and asked to go home instead.
Back at her place, Sebastian didn't leave; he stayed by her bedside, gently coaxing her to sleep.
But Seraphina couldn't sleep.
She closed her eyes, her mind filled with Dashiell's familiar figure.
Was it Dashiell or not?
"Sebastian," she called with her eyes closed.
"Seraphina, I'm here." He held her hand tightly.
"You should go home. I'm fine now," she said.
"Seraphina..."
"Really, I'm fine. Don't you have an important meeting tomorrow? Go home and rest."
"I don't feel right leaving you alone."
"This was just an accident," she said calmly. "You should go."
Sebastian didn't want to leave, but he didn't want to annoy her either.
It was clear she didn't want him to stay.
He stood up. "Rest well. If you get scared, call me, and I'll come over."
"Okay." She nodded.
Sebastian eventually left.
As he walked out of her house, his expression changed instantly.
Seraphina clearly relied on him less.
He couldn't shake the image of her searching for Dashiell in the warehouse, anxious and uneasy, like she was afraid of losing him.
Sebastian clenched his fists.
Who was behind Seraphina's kidnapping?
What had she gone through?
Was it Dashiell who orchestrated this whole drama on purpose?
