Chapter 434 Treated with Care (2)
Early in the morning, Cecilia was munching on a super lavish breakfast.
While chomping down, she said, "George, you don't have to go all out. We can wait till I'm actually pregnant to start with the fancy stuff."
"Nope," George shot back, dead serious.
Cecilia frowned.
She thought Alaric was stubborn, but George was on another level.
"Look, pregnancy is tough on the body, and it's not just during the pregnancy but even before. The healthier you are now, the better for the baby. Mrs. Whitaker, you gotta take care of yourself now so you can have a healthy kid. So, please, eat up." George said, bowing like he was in some old-timey movie.
Cecilia felt the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Alaric was always on about having a kid, and his family wouldn't shut up about it either.
Now even George was on a mission to get her body baby-ready.
If she didn't get pregnant, she'd feel like she let everyone down.
Cecilia reluctantly finished her breakfast.
She stuffed herself before getting up to head to work.
"Mrs. Whitaker, be careful. If you do get pregnant, the first three months are tricky, so take it easy," George called out.
"Okay," Cecilia nodded.
"And, Mrs. Whitaker, no more coffee. It's bad for the baby," George added.
"Okay," Cecilia sighed.
"Take care, Mrs. Whitaker," George said, all respectful.
Cecilia felt like she was making a break for it as she left.
The pressure to get pregnant was real.
Sitting in the car, Cecilia noticed it was moving slower than usual.
Even though she always left early and wouldn't be late, it still felt weird.
"Augustus, why are you driving so slow?" Cecilia asked.
"George called me this morning and told me to drive slow because you might be pregnant," Augustus replied, straight-faced.
Cecilia almost choked.
If she didn't get pregnant, George would be the most bummed out.
Cecilia took a deep breath to calm down, looking at the familiar streets of Serenovia City.
She had to admit, she was kinda excited about the idea of getting pregnant and having a kid.
She started wondering if the kid would look like Alaric or her.
Just thinking about it made her heart race.
She stayed calm, silently dreaming about the future.
Ever since she truly fell for Alaric, she had been looking forward to what was next.
When the car pulled up at the Lockhart Group, Cecilia, as usual, opened the door to get out.
"Mrs. Whitaker, hold up," Augustus called out.
Cecilia frowned.
She watched as Augustus got out and walked over to open her door.
Cecilia said, "No need, I can get out myself."
"George said it's best if you don't exert too much effort; it's not good for the baby," Augustus insisted.
Cecilia couldn't take it anymore and walked ahead quickly.
Augustus caught up in a few steps, reminding her, "George also said you shouldn't walk too fast; falling would be even worse."
"Augustus, you don't usually talk this much," Cecilia snapped.
Augustus clammed up.
Actually, it wasn't just George who had given him orders.
Alaric had also given him separate instructions.
But Alaric said to blame everything on George.
Augustus felt that ever since Alaric married Cecilia, he had become sneakier.
Cecilia strolled into the office, with Rose hot on her heels, rattling off work updates, "All the new hires from the other day have started. Ms. Lockhart, do you want to have a separate meeting with them?"
"Nah," Cecilia waved it off. "Just have HR do an evaluation report on the newbies and send it to me weekly."
"Got it." Rose nodded. "Today, Ms. Lockhart, you have an economic analysis meeting at 10 AM, which will run for about two hours. In the afternoon, the Lockhart Group is hosting a carnival event, and Mr. Lockhart wants you to attend the opening ceremony on his behalf. Several senior leaders will be there, including..."
Rose read off the list.
After listening, Cecilia said, "Bring Pierce along."
"Yes," Rose said respectfully. "Those are the only fixed schedules for today. Ms. Lockhart, anything else on your plate?"
"We lost the bid for the Innovation Arc project. Our new projects are lacking, so we need to hunt for business opportunities. The Lockhart Group can't sit idle; idleness means loss. Give me a list of all ongoing projects, and have the customer and sales departments gather info on any projects in Serenovia City or other branches that we can jump on. We need to be proactive."
"Understood," Rose noted.
"Report to me the day after tomorrow, can you handle that?"
"No problem," Rose assured.
Cecilia smiled.
Sometimes she was really glad to have a capable secretary, who saved her a lot of hassle.
She said, "That's all for now, you can get back to work."
"Ms. Lockhart, still black coffee?" Rose asked.
Cecilia paused before saying, "Milk."
Rose thought she misheard and asked, "Milk in the coffee?"
"Just milk," Cecilia said.
Rose felt that Cecilia had changed a lot recently.
Indeed, Alaric's charm was something else.
Even someone as independent as Cecilia could be influenced by Alaric.
In Rose's mind, all of Cecilia's unusual behavior was thanks to Alaric.
In the morning, Cecilia attended the economic analysis meeting.
When she got back to the office, ready to hit the cafeteria for lunch, Rose walked in with a fancy insulated lunch box. "Ms. Lockhart, here's your lunch."
"Mine?" Cecilia was surprised.
She hadn't ordered takeout.
"It was delivered by someone named George, who asked me to pass it to you," Rose explained.
Did it have to be so over the top?
Who asked George to deliver lunch?
"George also said you don't need to wash it after eating; just have Augustus bring it back to him after work," Rose added.
"Okay," Cecilia responded.
Rose respectfully placed the food in front of her.
As she was leaving, she couldn't help but ask, "Ms. Lockhart, are you pregnant?"
The more she thought about it, the more suspicious it seemed.
Not drinking coffee but milk.
A special nutritious lunch delivered by the housekeeper at noon.
If she wasn't pregnant, what else could it be?
"Don't talk nonsense!" Cecilia was obviously a bit agitated. "I'm not."
"Then you're prepping for pregnancy," Rose said.
Cecilia looked at Rose without responding.
"Did I guess right?" Rose was a bit excited.
When Cecilia first met Rose, she thought she was rigid and meticulous, but now, after working with her for a while, she felt Rose had become much more lively!
"Rose, aren't you single? How do you know so much?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow. "Are you in a relationship?"
Rose blushed at Cecilia's words.
