Chapter 444 Seraphina Saw Some Awkward Stuff
Penelope's eyes were all misty with tears, but she was dead set on what she was doing.
Dashiell's fists were clenched tight without him even realizing it.
He watched as her clothes hit the floor, one by one.
Not that she had much on to begin with.
In no time, she was down to just her bra and panties.
Dashiell's leg was messed up, making it a real pain to get up.
He struggled to get off the couch, trying to stop Penelope.
Just as he got close, her bra hit the floor.
Penelope suddenly threw herself at Dashiell.
With a lot of force and Dashiell already off balance, they both went crashing to the ground.
Penelope ended up on top of him.
The next second, her lips were all over Dashiell's face.
She was probably scared he'd push her away.
But Dashiell still did.
He grabbed her arm to push her off, and just then, the front door swung open.
Seraphina walked in and saw the whole crazy scene.
If it wasn't Dashiell's place, she wouldn't have believed it was him on the floor with Penelope.
Dashiell was even holding onto Penelope.
And Seraphina's entrance obviously threw a wrench in their plans.
Dashiell saw her.
Penelope, on top of Dashiell, saw her too.
When Penelope turned her head, Seraphina finally realized it was her.
When they divorced, she worried Dashiell would be lonely.
Guess she worried for nothing.
Dashiell never lacked admirers.
Penelope was head over heels, almost to the point of being nuts.
Seraphina said, "Sorry, didn't mean to barge in. Just came to grab some stuff."
After the divorce, of course, she had to come get her things.
It felt weird leaving her stuff at Dashiell's place.
After dinner with Sebastian, she decided on a whim to come fetch her stuff tonight.
She should've called Dashiell first because this was super awkward.
"Looks like it's a bad time," Seraphina added. "I'll come back tomorrow."
"No need," Dashiell said flatly.
He grabbed his cane, pushed Penelope away, and got up.
Penelope got up too, covering herself with her hands.
Dashiell struggled to squat down, picked up Penelope's coat, and covered her up, then led her to the couch. He didn't look at Seraphina again, just said, "Go ahead."
Seraphina bit her lip at his coldness.
Who Dashiell wanted to be with was his business, she had no say.
What bugged her was how good Dashiell was at hiding his feelings.
She really thought he'd be down after their divorce.
Guess she was wrong.
Seraphina quickly packed her stuff, wanting to get out of there fast.
She didn't want to interrupt them.
And seeing all this, she felt super awkward too.
She packed for a bit.
After a while, she pushed out two boxes and said, "I'm done."
Dashiell just nodded.
"So you two can continue," Seraphina said politely, then left with her boxes without looking back.
She didn't feel much about what she saw, just kinda awkward.
The door shut, and Penelope looked at Dashiell's stone-cold face.
Dashiell said, "You should leave too."
"Dashiell..." Penelope started.
"I thought after my divorce with Seraphina, I should move on, so I tried to give you a shot, but I just can't," Dashiell explained.
"Do you still like Seraphina? She's with Sebastian now, they've hooked up, why are you still hung up on her?" Penelope shouted.
Did Seraphina and Sebastian really hook up?
Sebastian had a chunk of Everhart Bank's shares, he couldn't have hooked up with Seraphina.
But honestly, that didn't matter to him.
He said, "You should go."
"Dashiell, I don't need you to like me or be responsible..." Penelope insisted.
"If you really want to be with me, don't go about it like this," Dashiell said.
Penelope looked at him.
"Don't make yourself look desperate," Dashiell said. "Take care of yourself."
"Take care of yourself" was also a reminder to himself.
After Dashiell finished talking, he walked into his room with his cane.
He looked at the room that Seraphina had obviously messed up.
Seraphina had carefully packed her stuff.
She carried two big boxes downstairs where Sebastian was waiting for her.
She didn't want Sebastian to come up, worried he'd feel weird about the place she and Dashiell shared.
Honestly, she thought a lot about Sebastian.
It was like a reflex to want to be good to him.
But for Dashiell, she didn't feel that way.
She thought, this was the difference between love and not.
When Sebastian saw Seraphina, he quickly came over and helped her load the boxes into the trunk.
They both got back in the car and took off.
"You don't look so hot. What's up?" Sebastian asked.
"Nothing." Seraphina smiled faintly.
She didn't realize her face looked off.
"Just saw some awkward stuff," Seraphina continued.
"What?" Sebastian seemed curious.
"Just kidding." Seraphina laughed it off.
She didn't want to talk too much about Dashiell to Sebastian.
She switched the topic, chatting about other things.
When they got to Maple Grove Estates, Sebastian helped Seraphina carry the boxes inside.
"It's late, Seraphina, get some rest. I'll head out," Sebastian said.
Seraphina nodded and suddenly called him, "Can't you stay?"
Since she moved out a week ago, Sebastian was with her almost every day.
But he went back every night.
Wasn't it normal for couples to live together before marriage these days?
"You just had a miscarriage, I don't want to hurt you," Sebastian said.
"We can live together without having sex," Seraphina insisted.
"You overestimate men, we don't have that much self-control in bed," Sebastian chuckled. "There's plenty of time."
Seraphina pursed her lips.
"I'll come to see you every day, don't feel bad. I'll be worried," Sebastian comforted her.
Seraphina nodded.
She felt that Sebastian was doing it for her own good.
"Get some rest, see you tomorrow," Sebastian said.
"See you tomorrow." Seraphina watched him leave.
She couldn't quite describe her feelings, not too sad, but not too happy either.
In short, it was much calmer than she thought.
