Chapter 616 Love

The next day, Cecilia headed to work at the Lockhart Group while Alaric went to the State Office, both diving back into their routines.

When Cecilia walked into the office and saw Rose, she felt a bit uneasy.

She'd been hit with so much info lately that she almost forgot Rose was there when Pierce kidnapped her last time.

Cecilia thought back and realized Augustus probably didn't think it through. He might've figured if Rose found out anything, he could just get rid of her.

But now, Rose was still at the Lockhart Group, doing her job as a secretary.

Cecilia stayed calm and took her seat.

She was surprised but also grateful that Alaric spared Rose. If it weren't for him, Augustus might've shot her.

"Ms. Lockhart, milk or coffee?" Rose asked, like everything was normal.

Cecilia didn't ask about Pierce, and Rose didn't ask how Cecilia got back safely.

"Milk," Cecilia replied, keeping it cool.

"Got it," Rose said respectfully, just like always.

She left the office and came back with a cup of milk and a cup of coffee.

Cecilia frowned when she saw Rose put the coffee in front of Augustus, who looked a bit stiff.

Cecilia found the whole scene pretty interesting.

"I made it myself, so give it a try," Rose said, smiling and looking for his approval.

Augustus's eyelids twitched even more. "I don't drink coffee; I only drink plain water," he said.

"Didn't you drink it at my house that day?" Rose shot back.

Cecilia was shocked. What went down between Augustus and Rose while she was gone? Clearly, it wasn't simple!

Augustus felt Cecilia's gaze. His face turned bright red. "Don't talk nonsense," he said.

"Didn't you come to my house?" Rose looked a bit hurt.

"I did, but I was..." Augustus started.

Rose cut him off, "Just drink it; it's made with my heartfelt intentions."

Augustus didn't know how to respond. He couldn't outtalk Rose and couldn't handle her teasing.

He quickly picked up the coffee and took a sip. His face changed, almost spitting it out because it was too hot.

"Hot..." Rose started to say, but Augustus had already finished it. His mouth was probably burned, but he didn't show it.

"So strong!" Rose admired.

Cecilia got goosebumps. "Rose, are you openly flirting during work hours?" she asked.

Augustus's face turned even redder. "No, Mrs. Whitaker, there's really nothing between me and her..." he stammered.

"You don't have feelings, but I do," Rose interjected.

Augustus was about to lose it.

Cecilia decided to stop teasing him and said seriously to Rose, "Bring me today's work schedule."

"Got it," Rose agreed quickly, showing her professionalism.

As she left, she gave Augustus a teasing look.

Augustus was on the verge of breaking down!Cecilia never expected the usually serious Rose to be so bold when she liked someone. She always thought Rose was completely unromantic, but it seemed she just hadn't met the right person.

And speaking of which, Rose's taste was pretty unique!

There were so many elite, refined, and elegant people at the Lockhart Group, yet she liked someone like Augustus, a big guy. If Cecilia didn't know him well, his appearance might have been a bit intimidating.

"Mrs. Whitaker, it's not what you think," Augustus said awkwardly after Rose left.

"So what is it then?" Cecilia teased.

She used to think Augustus was stoic and wouldn't say more than necessary, but now he was being pushed by Rose.

She couldn't help but feel that Augustus and Rose were quite a match.

"Rose saw you being kidnapped. At that moment, I decided to let her go. Later, I got worried she might say something, so I went to her house alone. That day, she was in a tough spot, and I helped her out to save time. She misunderstood and said she'd turn to me for help in the future. Plus, she used the fact that she wouldn't mention Pierce's kidnapping of you as leverage, so I agreed," Augustus explained.

"I see." Cecilia nodded.

"Mrs. Whitaker, so don't misunderstand. There's really nothing between me and Rose. She's just grateful that I helped her," Augustus said, blushing again.

"I think you should consider getting married," Cecilia exclaimed.

Augustus blushed even more and replied, "I haven't thought about it."

Cecilia asked, "Are you planning to stay single forever?"

"I... could do that too," Augustus said.

"Humans are social creatures; it's better to have someone by your side. You might want to consider Rose," Cecilia suggested.

Just as Augustus was about to refute, Rose knocked and entered the office, holding Cecilia's work schedule for the day.

As soon as Augustus saw Rose, he quickly turned and walked to the side.

As he turned, he blushed again.

Seeing this, Cecilia couldn't help but laugh.

Augustus talked about staying single, but his body language said otherwise.

Rose was puzzled by Cecilia's laughter and asked, "Ms. Lockhart, is there something on my face?"

Cecilia replied, "There is."

"What is it?" Rose quickly touched her face.

Cecilia said, "Love."

Rose paused for a second, then blushed the next.

Cecilia gave her a knowing look, and Rose instantly understood. She truly had the perfect boss.

Rose respectfully finished her work report just as Cecilia's phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, Cecilia noted, "Dashiell."

"I heard you and Alaric came back together," Dashiell said directly.

Cecilia replied, "Yes."

Dashiell asked, "Did you see Francis?"

Cecilia responded, "Yes."

"Then you know everything," Dashiell murmured.

Cecilia said, "Yes."

"If you can stay this calm after knowing, then it's fine," Dashiell concluded.

"Are you worried I can't handle it?" Cecilia chuckled.

Dashiell replied, "A bit."

Cecilia asked, "So you called just to say this?"

Dashiell remarked, "It's important."

"How important?" Cecilia frowned slightly.

Dashiell replied, "After all, if you can't handle it, Alaric won't be in a good mood, and when he's in a bad mood, it's quite scary."

"By the way, there's one more important thing," Dashiell suddenly said, "My mom wants to have a meal with you when you're free."
