Chapter 677 Arrival in Astralton City
Cecilia hopped into the helicopter, Augustus right behind her.
Gideon shot her a faint smile.
Cecilia pretended not to notice and looked down.
She spotted Alaric standing by the helicopter, eyes glued to it.
She turned away, choosing to ignore him.
There were some goodbyes she just didn't want to deal with.
She'd rather Alaric stay as cold as he seemed, without any pain. That way, she could still hold onto a bit of anger towards him, making things easier for herself.
The helicopter's rotors started spinning.
The trees around them swayed in the wind.
Alaric's clothes and hair got all messed up.
But he stood there, not moving an inch.
He watched the helicopter slowly lift off, taking his beloved Cecilia away. Alaric's fists stayed clenched, never relaxing.
His bloodshot eyes showed his constant struggle to keep his sorrow in check.
He didn't even want to imagine how desperate Cecilia must feel as she left.
The helicopter climbed higher and higher.
Cecilia finally looked down and saw Alaric standing below, alone, like he'd been forgotten by the world.
"Can't bear to leave?" Gideon suddenly spoke, clearly noticing her expression.
Cecilia's eyes flickered.
Alaric's figure grew smaller and smaller as the helicopter ascended, eventually disappearing.
"No, just remembering his indifferent look at this moment," Cecilia said.
"You women really have a way of saying one thing and meaning another," Gideon said, clearly not buying it.
Cecilia didn't bother to explain.
She didn't want to chat too much with Gideon.
She didn't know him well.
The less familiar someone was, the more cautious she needed to be.
She didn't want to die for no reason.
Until the moment she truly faced death, she had never considered giving up her life.
"I heard you're pregnant." Gideon's voice broke the silence again.
Cecilia glanced at him.
"It wasn't Alaric who told me, but you should know that I'm aware of many things," Gideon said calmly. He wasn't boasting, just stating facts—maybe warning her not to try any tricks.
"Yes." Cecilia nodded. "I'm three months pregnant."
"You can't tell at all," Gideon commented.
Cecilia just made a sound.
"Do you hate him?" Gideon asked.
Cecilia frowned slightly.
"I mean, do you hate Alaric? For making you leave with me while you're pregnant," Gideon said calmly.
He seemed as calm as if they were discussing the weather.
"Do you think I shouldn't hate him?" Cecilia shot back.
Gideon smiled, his expression unreadable.
He said, "Cecilia, you're a smart woman."
"So I should learn to endure, right?" Cecilia said.
"Because you have no other choice," Gideon said, word by word.
Cecilia laughed.
Right.
Because she had no other choice, she had to endure everything now.
"I like smart women," Gideon suddenly said.
Cecilia paused.
"Don't overthink it. When I say like, I mean appreciate. I don't have a habit of ruining other people's marriages, especially since you're pregnant," Gideon explained. "When I say appreciate, I mean I don't want to waste too much time on you. Cecilia, you should know what I'm talking about."He was basically telling Cecilia not to even think about betraying him while she was with him.
Cecilia got the message. She said, "Alaric told me that you don't trust him, so you needed me as leverage. But now that you've taken me, if the Monroe family finds out, won't Alaric be useless to them?"
"Who do you think will be most affected by this?" Gideon shot back.
Cecilia was taken aback.
In that moment, she started to piece things together.
Gideon saw right through her. He said, "It'll hit Alaric the hardest. Once the Monroe family knows I've got you, they won't trust him anymore, and he'll be in danger."
"So you're leaving this mess for Alaric to clean up, huh?" Cecilia said.
Gideon nodded.
Cecilia felt a wave of helplessness. Gideon was truly cunning.
He understood all the angles, could see through everything, and could easily manipulate everyone.
Cecilia didn't say anything more.
She leaned back in her seat, closing her eyes to rest.
Seeing that Cecilia wasn't in the mood to talk, Gideon didn't push it.
He said, "Cecilia, people in politics are darker than you might think—it's not just me; Alaric is too."
"I know," Cecilia replied without opening her eyes.
Gideon looked at her and said, "Don't worry. As long as Alaric doesn't actually betray me, you'll be fine. I don't make a habit of killing innocent people."
Cecilia pressed her lips together.
The helicopter flew for over three hours and finally landed in Astralton City.
It touched down right at the Hotchner Mansion.
In a place as wealthy as Astralton City, owning a private residence with such a large area was a real status symbol.
Cecilia followed Gideon off the helicopter.
Augustus stayed close to her, always on guard.
Gideon led Cecilia to a separate courtyard within the mansion. He said, "This is where you'll stay for now. I live across from you."
Cecilia looked around.
It was very quiet, much like the calm and elegant vibe Gideon gave off. But beneath his composed exterior, hidden ambition simmered.
"There will be servants to take care of you. Whatever you need, just ask. I'll try to meet your needs. The only thing is," Gideon warned, "don't think about leaving."
"I'm not that foolish," Cecilia assured him.
"I thought so too," Gideon nodded. "After a few hours of flying, get some rest."
Cecilia nodded.
Gideon left with his people.
After he left, the only ones in the small courtyard were Augustus and a middle-aged maid who seemed very respectful to Cecilia.
"Augustus, I'm a bit tired. I'm going to take a nap. You should rest too," Cecilia said.
Augustus nodded.
Cecilia walked into a bedroom.
The room had a faint fragrance, adding a layer of charm to its tranquility.
The architecture here had a utopian feel.
Cecilia lay on the bed.
The bed was just right, not too hard or too soft, making it very comfortable to sleep on.
If Cecilia didn't know so much, maybe staying here to take care of her pregnancy wouldn't be such a bad idea.
