Chapter 398 Promotion
Dominic ditched work today and was holed up at the Kingsley Mansion, chain-smoking like a chimney.
Thinking about how Cecilia played him, he was ready to rip her apart.
Work? Yeah, right. Not happening.
He stayed home, his temper hitting the roof.
"What now?" Dominic snapped into the phone when Penelope called, his voice dripping with anger.
"That bitch Cecilia! How dare she show off in front of me! Who does she think she is? Dominic, just thinking about her smug face when she signed that contract makes me wanna scream! Can't you do something to knock her down a peg?" Penelope ranted.
Dominic was already fuming over Cecilia, and Penelope's words just made him see red.
Penelope seemed to hate Cecilia, but really, she was just feeding Cecilia's ego and making him look weak.
"Enough! I don't wanna hear another word about it!" he barked.
"But Dominic..." Penelope whined.
"I said, that's it." Dominic cut her off.
He'd taken a big hit this time, totally outplayed by Cecilia, and he knew it.
Next time, he swore, Cecilia wouldn't know what hit her.
"Can't you teach Cecilia a lesson? Are you just gonna let her walk all over you?" Penelope couldn't let it go.
Dominic's face was like a storm cloud.
He still hadn't figured out how to deal with Cecilia, how to make her regret crossing him!
He clenched his jaw.
Just as he was about to hang up, a sly look crossed his face. "Penelope."
"What now?" Penelope snapped, still fuming.
She couldn't stand seeing Cecilia so smug.
Penelope wanted her gone.
"Seraphina's Cecilia's best friend, right?" Dominic asked.
"Yeah, both of them are bitches!" Penelope spat.
"I can't get to Cecilia right now, but I can get to Seraphina, can't I?" Dominic sneered.
"What do you mean?" Penelope's voice perked up.
The idea of messing with Seraphina thrilled her.
Who did Seraphina think she was, trying to compete with her for Dashiell?
"Isn't Seraphina pregnant?" Dominic asked. "Haven't you always wanted to get rid of her baby?"
"Yeah, but that idiot Sebastian hasn't figured out how to do it. I've given up on him!" Penelope said.
"He's cautious and patient. Look how long he's put up with that baby in Seraphina's belly; that kind of patience is rare," Dominic said.
"I don't wanna hear you praise him, Dominic. If it weren't for you saying he was useful, I would've never teamed up with him!"
"Alright, let's drop it." Dominic said, "Now, let me help you get rid of her baby."
"Really?" Penelope's voice lit up.
"Really," Dominic confirmed. "Come home now, and I'll tell you how to do it."
"Okay."
Dominic hung up, a cold smile playing on his lips.
Cecilia was gonna pay.
Meanwhile, at the Lockhart Group boardroom, the Innovation Arc project wrapped up with everyone singing its praises.
Those who doubted Cecilia before were now eating their words.
Especially Hank, who wished he could just vanish into thin air.
Cecilia, on the other hand, played it cool. "Thanks for recognizing my work, everyone. I know I kept some things under wraps, and that caused misunderstandings. My bad."
Her words gave the board members an easy out.
"Yeah, Cecilia, we did misunderstand you because you kept us in the dark. But hey, in the workplace, it's all about the company's growth, nothing personal," one board member quickly chimed in.
He finally got his chance to save face.
"I get it, you all have the company's best interests at heart. That's why I'm sorry for not being upfront earlier," Cecilia responded smoothly.
"Let's not dwell on it. Everyone was just looking out for the company, no harm done. The results speak for themselves," Theodore said, trying to smooth things over. Then he got serious. "I've been considering Cecilia for the Vice President position.. She's been the interim leader for too long, and it's a waste of her talent! So, I want to officially appoint Cecilia as the Vice President of the Lockhart Group!"
"I agree," Hank was the first to raise his hand.
Cecilia glanced at him.
Hank said, "While I initially had concerns about Cecilia's age and Andrew's involvement, I've come to realize that she's the ideal candidate. Andrew's recent performance has shown that we need a fresh perspective, and Cecilia's talent and vision are exactly what we need."
"I agree too. No one is more suitable than Cecilia."
The whole boardroom was on board.
Being recognized, Cecilia was naturally stoked.
Theodore was even more so, grinning from ear to ear.
After the meeting, Cecilia's official appointment letter was issued.
Cecilia officially moved into the Vice President's office of the Lockhart Group.
In just half a year, Cecilia had climbed the ranks through her own skills.
Vincent's family was history, except for Juliana.
Juliana was smart; she stayed out of Vincent's family's mess and kept herself safe.
But still, birds of a feather flock together.
Keeping Juliana around was like having a ticking time bomb.
She had hoped Juliana and Andrew would take each other out, but Andrew was even dumber than she thought.
So, he met a tragic end.
Cecilia's eyes flickered, and she picked up the phone. "Rose, get Juliana to my office."
"Juliana?" Rose confirmed.
"Yeah," Cecilia said.
"Okay, Ms. Lockhart." Rose responded respectfully.
Five minutes later, Juliana knocked and walked in, "Cecilia."
Her attitude was super respectful.
Juliana was good at reading the room.
Cecilia put on a friendly face. "Have a seat."
"Thanks." Juliana sat down respectfully in front of Cecilia.
Juliana had seen Cecilia's rise and truly admired how quickly she had climbed the ladder!
She had hoped the Innovation Arc project would bring Cecilia down.
But in the end, Andrew had dug his own grave!
