Chapter 521 Outbreak (14) New Problems
After wrapping up her spiel, Cecilia took a deep breath and said, "I've sorted out the video and some features and sent them to your phone. Use these to help me find these two people, but keep it on the down-low. I'm worried they might try to silence them."
"Got it," Dashiell replied without missing a beat.
"Dashiell, I gotta head back to Serenovia City early tomorrow. Besides tracking them down, we need to check that financial report. From your angle, it looks airtight, so let's not waste too much time on it. I'm thinking of going straight to Alaric. If he left surveillance footage for himself, he might have more evidence. You were right; Alaric is the key to clearing his name in this mess."
"Okay," Dashiell said again.
It was also an absolute affirmation of Alaric.
"Keep me posted if you hear anything," Cecilia added.
"You too."
"Alright."
Early the next morning, Cecilia and Augustus caught the first flight back to Serenovia City.
On the ride back from the airport, Cecilia saw the video of Dominic proposing to Lyra. It looked like Dominic had really gone all out, planning a grand wedding for her.
She leaned back in her seat, watching the ads showing Dominic and Lyra's sweet moments with a detached air.
She wondered, did Dominic really love Lyra in their past life?
He always claimed Lyra was the love of his life.
He even said he took the Lockhart Family's fortune just to make Lyra happy.
Cecilia's eyes narrowed.
She almost forgot how ruthless Dominic was back then.
Thinking about their past life, she really wanted to kill him.
Augustus seemed to notice her mood shift.
He said, "When Mr. Whitaker married you, it was also grand and sensational."
Cecilia's eyes flickered.
So Augustus thought she was jealous.
However, whoever married Dominic was in for a rough ride.
Lyra was just still useful.
Once she wasn't, she'd end up just like Cecilia.
When Cecilia got back to the villa, George saw her and looked anxious, asking, "Mrs. Whitaker, did you find any evidence?"
"We're still looking, but we have some leads. Don't stress too much, George," Cecilia reassured him.
"That's good." George let out a sigh of relief.
Cecilia didn't say much more. She called Preston, "Mr. Collins, I need to see Alaric. Can you set it up?"
"I'll try," Preston said.
"By the book, we should be allowed to see Alaric, right?" Cecilia asked.
"Yes, but they can come up with a million reasons to refuse. It's tricky."
"Then let public opinion do the talking," Cecilia said bluntly. "You follow the proper channels first. I'll handle the shady stuff."
Preston was clearly taken aback.
Cecilia didn't elaborate.
After hanging up, she called a few media contacts she knew.
Having been in the business world for so long, she had some connections.
Several media outlets were hesitant when they heard it involved exposing the State Office, but considering Alaric's news was so hot, if they didn't report it while others did, they'd miss out. After some thought and Cecilia's nudging, they all agreed.
That afternoon, news about Alaric being targeted by the State Office spread like wildfire across the Yakurosean Empire's media.
Alaric's case was already a hot topic, and this new twist quickly became the talk of the town.
While many were furious about Alaric's alleged embezzlement, the State Office's refusal to let his lawyer see him before the investigation wrapped up seemed fishy, hinting at possible corruption.
Under mounting pressure, the State Office finally caved.
When Preston requested to see Alaric again, they processed the visitation paperwork without a hitch.
As soon as he got the paperwork, Preston called Cecilia.
Cecilia and Augustus rushed over.
She had no idea how Alaric had been holding up these past few days.
Every day felt like an eternity.
Cecilia walked into the detention center.
After jumping through all the bureaucratic hoops, just as they were about to enter the visitation room, a familiar male voice called out from behind, "Wait."
Cecilia gritted her teeth.
She truly despised Dominic.
She turned to see Dominic, flanked by several officials, striding over.
"Back from Harborvale so soon?" Dominic taunted.
Cecilia had no interest in exchanging words with him.
She just wanted to see Alaric.
"Didn't find anything? You look awful!" Dominic sneered.
He was sure Cecilia had come back empty-handed and defeated.
"My face looks awful because I saw something disgusting," Cecilia shot back coldly.
Dominic's face twitched slightly.
But he didn't care much.
He was on top of the world and didn't need to squabble with Cecilia.
His eyes narrowed, and he asked, "Who gave you permission to see Alaric?"
"We have the proper paperwork." Cecilia stood her ground.
Preston handed the paperwork to Dominic.
After glancing at it, Dominic sneered, "It says here that Alaric is suspected of embezzlement and is allowed one visit."
"Is there a problem?" Cecilia asked icily.
"Of course." Dominic casually tossed the paperwork on the ground.
Cecilia's face darkened.
Augustus was ready to deck Dominic any second.
"Alaric is suspected of more than just embezzlement," Dominic said slowly.
Cecilia glared at him.
What new game was Dominic playing?
"Alaric is also suspected of rape resulting in death!" Dominic's voice boomed.
It seemed like Alaric's troubles thrilled him.
Cecilia clenched her fists.
What kind of bogus charge was this?
"Cecilia." Dominic looked at her stony face.
He could see her holding back.
But it wasn't the meltdown he had hoped for.
He wanted to see Cecilia lose it.
Didn't she always think she had found a good man?
He wanted to see her regret.
He said, "Do you know who he raped?"
Cecilia's tense body shook with anger.
Dominic laughed maniacally, "It was Juliana! Alaric is truly shameless, raping his wife's cousin. He's morally bankrupt to the core!"
