Chapter 524 Outbreak (17) Begins to Set the Trap

Cecilia kept her cool and said, "I'm good."

"I heard from Augustus that you locked yourself in your room all night," Dashiell said, sounding really worried.

"I just had dinner. Sometimes I get a bit down, but I can handle it."

"Alaric would never rape a woman," Dashiell said, emphasizing every word.

"I know." Cecilia smiled.

She was sure he couldn't do something like that!

Plus, on the night it happened, Alaric came back in the middle of the night.

He didn't look like he'd had sex with another woman.

"When's Cassius getting out?" Cecilia switched the topic.

"Hugo's on it. He should be out in two or three days," Dashiell replied.

"Cassius should have proof that Alaric didn't rape Juliana. I saw Juliana get into a fancy car that day. I had Cassius follow her, but with everything that happened later, I didn't ask, and Cassius probably didn't pay much attention, so he didn't tell me."

"I'll let Hugo know to get Cassius out ASAP," Dashiell said.

"Okay." Cecilia nodded.

"It's late. You should get some rest," Dashiell said. "We'll sort everything out!"

"Alright." Cecilia believed him.

After hanging up, Cecilia sat alone on the balcony.

Sleep was out of the question.

She called Seraphina.

Just like with Dashiell, she picked up on the first ring.

But Seraphina's voice was loud and agitated, making Cecilia feel like her eardrums were about to burst.

"Cecilia, if you don't answer my calls, I'm gonna lose it!" Seraphina ranted.

So if Cecilia didn't call her back, Seraphina would definitely be up all night.

Cecilia said, "I'm fine."

"Really? That bitch Juliana is dead!" Seraphina said excitedly.

"Yeah, I know," Cecilia said.

"They're saying she was raped to death by Alaric," Seraphina added, "but I don't buy it."

Cecilia's eyes flickered, and she asked, "You don't think Alaric did it?"

"No way!" Seraphina was sure. "Even though I haven't hung out with Alaric much, he's too classy to go for Juliana, let alone rape her. Juliana looks at Alaric like he's a god; she'd jump into his bed if she could. Alaric wouldn't need to rape her. He'd probably find her gross even if she threw herself at him!"

Cecilia's throat tightened.

Though Seraphina's words were a bit harsh, they really hit the mark.

"I called to tell you that Alaric would never do such a thing, so don't be sad!" Seraphina's tone suddenly softened.

"Okay," Cecilia agreed.

"Cecilia." Seraphina suddenly got emotional.

"What?"

"Why haven't you met a good man?" Seraphina said wistfully. "You're such a perfect woman."

"Alaric is pretty good," Cecilia said straightforwardly.

"Yeah, he is. His love for you is obvious. I'm not saying he's bad; I'm just bummed you don't have a good marriage. Things were fine with Alaric, and now he's caught up in all these scandals and even detained. I've heard that if he's found guilty, he could be in for at least ten years," Seraphina said, getting more upset. "Why do you have to go through all this?"

Yeah, why couldn't fate just let her have a normal, peaceful life?

Every day felt like a storm, and she was really scared she might break down one day.

"I still think Alaric's situation is all a misunderstanding," Seraphina added. "Don't worry too much; the law is fair, and the truth will come out."

Seraphina was still a bit too naive, always believing that everything in this world was fair and thinking there was justice in this world.

Cecilia didn't want to tell Seraphina too much.

"Okay, so I'm not too worried," Cecilia said, trying to calm her down. "It's late. I'm going to sleep. You should too."

"Alright." Seraphina reminded her before hanging up, "Don't ignore my calls again."

Cecilia put down her phone and turned to feel the cold wind on the balcony.

In the following days, Cecilia slept in until she naturally woke up at home.

Given the current uncertain situation, there wasn't much she could do except wait for Cassius to return.

Even though Hugo had personally gone to Harborvale, he hadn't been able to get Cassius out of detention yet; they were still negotiating.

Cecilia didn't push.

She knew the Blackburns were probably more anxious than she was; otherwise, Hugo wouldn't have gone personally.

After eating the nutritious breakfast George prepared, Cecilia checked the news on her phone, which mostly focused on Alaric's case.

Initially, the embezzlement charges were reported objectively, but once the rape and murder allegations surfaced, even official news outlets began to criticize Alaric's character.

Suddenly, Alaric became the target of public criticism.

Cecilia read it all calmly.

At first, it made her uncomfortable.

But she got used to it after seeing it so much.

After all, people had always stood on moral high ground to criticize others.

Just as she was about to turn off her phone, a news alert popped up.

#Dominic and Lyra's Wedding Date Announced, Stunning Wedding Photos Revealed.

Cecilia clicked on it.

There were many romantic wedding photos.

After post-processing, they really looked like a perfect match.

Cecilia suddenly remembered that she and Alaric had never taken wedding photos, a slight regret lingering in her mind.

She scrolled down the news content.

In a week, Dominic and Lyra would be getting married.

How could Dominic get Lyra to marry him so quickly?

Cecilia thought for a moment.

Then she was almost certain that Lyra was pregnant.

Otherwise, the Monroe Family wouldn't be so eager to have them marry when the situation was still unclear.

Cecilia was really impressed by Dominic's cunning.

Her eyes flickered, and she directly called Dominic.

He answered on the last ring, his voice dripping with sarcasm, "What's this? Ms. Lockhart actually called me."
