Chapter 228 Alaric, I'm Not Worth It

Dominic looked awful.

Even on camera, he couldn't hide it.

But no one seemed to notice him now.

Despite his sensitive status, overshadowed by Alaric, there were hardly any comments about Dominic.

He was practically invisible.

The interview ended, and Alaric aced the civil service exam.

Dominic came in second.

Three others also made it.

Serenovia City's annual civil service exam only had five spots.

So, even though it was fair, the competition was fierce.

Alaric left with Cassius.

In the car, Alaric's phone rang.

He glanced at it and answered, "Ms. Lockhart."

"I watched your performance," Cecilia said.

"Did I impress you?" Alaric smiled.

"Aren't you afraid of being targeted?" Cecilia asked, still surprised by Alaric.

Alaric had been pretending to be useless for years, waiting for the right moment. Why reveal his skills now?

"It's worth it for you," Alaric replied.

Cecilia was stunned.

Sometimes Alaric's words felt like sweet nothings, but they always moved her.

Her heart would skip a beat.

She couldn't tell if he was sincere.

"I'm not worth it," Cecilia said and hung up.

Whether he was sincere or not, her answer was clear.

She wouldn't give unconditionally for anyone.

Cecilia put down her phone and adjusted her emotions.

Just as she was about to call Rose in to arrange work, the phone rang again.

It was Seraphina.

"Cecilia, I think you have a great perspective," Seraphina said seriously.

Cecilia chuckled.

"You and Alaric together, you've really found a treasure. They say a prodigal son returned is worth more than gold. I used to dismiss that. But now, seeing Alaric, I have to admit, there's truth to it," Seraphina said. "Look at how amazing he's become for you!"

Cecilia still couldn't fully accept Seraphina's logic. "Alaric becoming excellent has little to do with me."

If she hadn't known Alaric would become like this one day, she might have thought the same as Seraphina.

But knowing the whole truth, she couldn't deceive herself.

"Can you be more confident? Don't you know how much of a scumbag Alaric used to be?"

"That's because Alaric wanted to change. He couldn't be a jerk forever."

"Why didn't he want to change before he got married? As soon as he married you, he changed completely. Stop denying yourself. That day at your house, I saw it clearly. Alaric's eyes were full of you. He didn't even look at me!" Seraphina said.

'He didn't look at you because you offended Dashiell,' Cecilia thought.

There were some things Cecilia didn't want to say too much about.

Cecilia still couldn't figure out the relationship between Alaric and Dashiell. With Seraphina's big mouth, if she knew even a little, the whole Yakurosean Empire would know. Cecilia didn't want to cause any trouble. She always felt that if Alaric and Dashiell wanted to hide something, they must have their reasons. She didn't want to ruin any of Alaric's plans. After all, they were partners.

"Are you very free today?" Cecilia changed the topic.

She knew that sometimes Seraphina could talk about one thing all day if she was interested.

"Yes, I'm waiting to get married," Seraphina said sarcastically.

"Dashiell is pretty good," Cecilia added.

"Could you please stop saying such disgusting things to me?" Seraphina replied.

"Since you're going to marry him anyway, you might as well think better of Dashiell. It might make you feel better," Cecilia suggested.

"No, I'd rather feel bad myself than let Dashiell feel good," Seraphina shot back.

"That's a Pyrrhic victory," Cecilia said.

"I like it," Seraphina responded.

"Yes, as much as you like it," Cecilia said, not wanting to argue further.

At this point, saying anything to Seraphina was useless.

"By the way, didn't I ask you to make wedding outfits for me and the groom? I don't need them anymore," Seraphina said.

"Why?" Cecilia asked.

"Why should I dress up so well to marry Dashiell?" Seraphina replied.

"So you're going to let me down, right?" Cecilia said.

"I..."

"You made a casual remark, and I've remembered it until now. Now that I've finally designed everything for you, even made the finished products, and now you tell me you don't want them. Are you trying to make me angry?" Cecilia continued.

"I'll use them next time," Seraphina quickly said. "Next time I get married, I'll definitely wear them."

"There won't be a next time. When you marry Dashiell, it is for life..." Cecilia said.

"No, it's not!" Seraphina retorted. "One day, Dashiell will divorce me!"

"Then I won't design clothes for a second-marriage woman. It would lower the quality of my clothes," Cecilia said.

"Cecilia, you're discriminating against second marriages," Seraphina exclaimed.

"No, I'm just discriminating against you. What were you thinking when you let such a nice Dashiell go?" Cecilia asked.

"Why do you always speak well of Dashiell? Cecilia, are you still the same Cecilia? Tell me, have you changed, like in those novels where another woman has entered your body?" Seraphina said.

"Can you stop being so stupid?" Cecilia was very disdainful.

In fact, her current situation was indeed similar to soul transmigration.

It was just that the soul was the same person, but different periods of Cecilia.

"Then why have you changed so much?" Seraphina really couldn't understand.

"I just recognized the good and the bad."

Seraphina obviously didn't believe it.

But she had no defenses against Cecilia.

So she wouldn't think too much.

"The wedding dress and outfit are settled. On your wedding day, you must wear everything I designed for you," Cecilia said firmly, leaving no room for negotiation.

Seraphina really didn't want to let Cecilia down.

She reluctantly agreed.

"I'll wear them, but Dashiell can't," she said.

"Seraphina!"

"Even if he wanted to, he couldn't. Dashiell and Sebastian have different body types. Dashiell is two inches taller than Sebastian. Wearing a suit that's not his size would look ridiculous!" Seraphina had a great reason. "I know your finished products are already done. You can't redo them, and there's no time to make new ones."
