Chapter 399 A Warning to Juliana

Juliana was cooking up some nasty thoughts in her head.

Lucky for her, she hadn't stuck her nose in Andrew's mess lately. Even when Vivienne was giving Ophelia a hard time, she stayed out of it. She knew with Theodore in the picture, their family was going downhill fast. If Cecilia ever decided to off them, Juliana figured she could still save her own skin.

And guess what? She was spot on.

Now Andrew was locked up, and word on the street was if he couldn't get the Lockhart Group to forgive him, he was looking at over seven years behind bars.

Vivienne got busted too for messing with Ophelia.

Juliana had talked to a lawyer, and apparently, someone like Vivienne would get six months to a year as a slap on the wrist. But rumor had it that once Vivienne hit the police station, she lost her marbles, and the cops were trying to figure out if she was really nuts!

Looked like Vivienne might've actually gone off the deep end.

Not that Juliana felt bad for her. A jerk like Vivienne deserved whatever was coming to her.

If she got the chance, she'd take Vivienne out herself, just like she did with Isadora back in the day!

For anyone who made her life hell, Juliana was gonna make sure they got a taste of their own medicine!

Now, it was perfect that Cecilia had done the dirty work for her.

But Juliana wasn't about to thank Cecilia.

Cecilia and her? They were never on the same team.

Juliana had one goal: after years of being the illegitimate daughter, she wanted to be the queen of the Lockhart family. She and Cecilia were like oil and water, and the better Cecilia did, the more it burned her up inside.

But she wasn't rushing things.

After seeing what happened to Andrew, she told herself to chill.

Unless she had no other choice, she wasn't gonna make a move against Cecilia.

She flashed a friendly smile. "Need something, Cecilia?"

"Nothing major, just wanted to chat about Andrew and Vivienne," Cecilia said, cool as a cucumber.

"Andrew and Vivienne..." Juliana put on a sad face. "They brought it on themselves. When Andrew was trash-talking you, I told him to cut it out, but he didn't listen and even hit me, so I backed off. Vivienne's treatment of Ophelia was unbearable. I wanted to intervene, but Vivienne said if I opened my mouth, she'd beat me to death too..."

Juliana started to tear up as she talked.

"It's my fault, knowing they were wrong but too scared to fight back. After Dad got locked up, no one had my back, and they abused me too," Juliana said, crying, "Now Vivienne and Andrew got what they deserved. Karma's a bitch, right?"

Cecilia just watched her, not really reacting.

She cut to the chase, "Since you get it, there's not much to say. Juliana, right now, you're the only one in your family who's doing okay. You're part of the Lockhart family, and as long as you do your job, you'll have a place here."

"I know. I'll work hard," Juliana quickly promised.

"Good to hear." Cecilia nodded. "That's it, you can get back to work."

"Yes." Juliana left, all respectful.

But the second she was out of sight, her face changed.

What Juliana craved was big-time money.

Why should they get all the good stuff just 'cause they were born into it?

Cecilia watched Juliana walk away.

She called her over to check her vibe.

Clearly, Juliana was loving life now that no one could push her around.

Secondly, it was a heads-up for Juliana to stay in line.

Whether she listened or not was her call. Cecilia had done her bit.

Whatever happened next, it was on Juliana.

Cecilia turned back to her work, not wanting to waste brainpower on others.

Right now, everything at the Lockhart Group was running smooth, but there were no new projects. She figured it was time for a big shake-up!

Most of the top spots, except for her and the old Andrew, were held by almost 50-year-old vets. Experience was cool, but they needed fresh blood to keep the Lockhart Group from getting stale.

Her next big move was a major overhaul.

As she was plotting this, her phone buzzed.

She glanced at the screen. "Seraphina."

"What's up?" Seraphina asked.

"Working, what else?" Cecilia replied, sounding a bit annoyed.

"Don't wanna talk to me?" Seraphina could be as sharp as Sherlock Holmes sometimes.

"When's the last time you called me? Don't you know how boring it is for a pregnant woman every day?"

"Magnolia and Dashiell are with you, right? Isn't that enough fun?" Cecilia asked.

"Are you kidding? They're just here to bug me. I'm strong enough not to lose the baby from their nagging!" Seraphina shot back.

"Don't joke about miscarriages. I've told you not to say stuff like that; the baby will get upset," Cecilia reminded her.

Seraphina didn't care. "Whatever! At least I won't be tormented by the baby."

"How's the baby tormenting you?" Cecilia asked.

"It's been almost four months, and I'm still puking every morning. You have no idea how miserable I am. I've had enough. If this keeps up, either the baby or I will kick the bucket!"

"Is it really that bad?" Cecilia asked.

"Try being pregnant yourself."

Cecilia felt like she couldn't have a normal convo with Seraphina.

"By the way, you've been married to Alaric for a while, and you're not pregnant yet?" Seraphina asked.

"We just haven't planned for it yet," Cecilia said.

"He might be shooting blanks!" Seraphina said seriously. "Guys like Alaric, who used to mess around a lot, can have their fertility messed up. I'm not kidding. You should get Alaric checked out; the sooner the better."

"Seraphina, that's enough!" Cecilia snapped.

She was starting to think Alaric might really be shooting blanks.

"I'm just looking out for you. Look," Seraphina said.

"Enough, I gotta work," Cecilia couldn't take it anymore.

"So you admit it, Alaric's shooting blanks," Seraphina said.

Cecilia really didn't want to waste more words on Seraphina.

Seraphina looked at the phone Cecilia had hung up.

She pouted, feeling annoyed.

She was just worried about Cecilia, but she wasn't getting any love for it.

Seraphina put down her phone and suddenly felt a wave of nausea.

She clutched her mouth, feeling sick.
