Chapter 671 Alaric Suddenly Returns
Seraphina felt like her heart had been stabbed. All this guilt was because of Sebastian.
"Why didn't you tell me you were feeling like this?" she asked.
"I'm fine," Sebastian said with a smile. "The doctor was just being dramatic."
"How'd you catch a cold?" Seraphina asked.
"Probably didn't notice the temperature change when I wasn't paying attention," Sebastian replied.
"Was it because you were waiting for me last night?" Seraphina pressed.
"Seraphina..." Sebastian stammered.
"Why didn't you call me when you were waiting for me last night?" Seraphina was getting agitated.
Sebastian looked speechless and a bit scared of her anger.
"Sebastian, how will you take care of yourself if I leave you in the future?" Seraphina's eyes were red.
She couldn't understand why Sebastian would go to such lengths for her.
Didn't he know?
Seraphina didn't love him anymore.
She was in love with Dashiell.
She had left Sebastian behind.
"Seraphina, don't be mad," Sebastian said, holding her hand. "I'll take better care of myself. Besides, there's still a month left. Maybe you'll change your mind."
"Sebastian, I really..." Seraphina started.
Suddenly, Sebastian erupted into a fit of coughing—a wild, uncontrollable spasm.
Seraphina was startled.
Sebastian's coughing got worse.
It took a long time for him to stop.
He looked even weaker.
"What were you saying just now?" he asked.
Seraphina's throat tightened.
She shook her head. "Let's talk about it when you get better. Rest for now."
Sebastian smiled faintly.
But inside, he was ruthless.
There was no way he would let Seraphina go back to Dashiell!
At Everhart Bank, Dashiell sat in his office, a bit distracted.
After Daphne finished her report, she asked, "Mr. Rainier, would you like black coffee as usual?"
Dashiell snapped back to reality.
He had zoned out during Daphne's report.
This almost never happened at work.
Daphne was a bit embarrassed.
She quickly asked again, "Mr. Rainier, would you like black coffee as usual?"
"Yes." Dashiell nodded.
"Got it." Daphne prepared to leave.
"Wait," Dashiell suddenly called out.
"Yes," Daphne responded respectfully.
"Ask Seraphina to come in; I need to confirm something work-related with her," Dashiell said.
Daphne was stunned.
Did she hear the name correctly?
"Did you mean Ms. Everhart?" she asked.
"Yes." Dashiell looked calm.
"I'll notify Ms. Everhart right away," Daphne quickly agreed.
After Daphne left, Dashiell took a deep breath.
He leaned back on the sofa.
His whole body felt sore.
The pain he experienced last night made him not want to get out of bed today.
But recalling Seraphina's appearance last night...
After waking up, Dashiell remembered the hickey on Seraphina's neck, which he had most likely left.
Maybe it wasn't Sebastian's.
Once he figured it out, Dashiell felt a bit regretful.
Especially since Seraphina had called Lucy over last night.
Although Dashiell had sent Lucy away, after calming down this morning, he felt even more conflicted inside.
So, despite wanting to sleep at home all day, he forced himself to come to Everhart Bank.
He felt that some things needed to be clarified with Seraphina in person.
He waited for a while.
Daphne came in with coffee.
Dashiell looked behind her.
"Mr. Rainier, Ms. Everhart hasn't come to work yet," Daphne quickly said.
Dashiell's eyes tightened.Daphne said, "I've already informed the client department. As soon as Ms. Everhart arrives, they'll let her know to come see you."
"Okay," Dashiell replied, then casually asked, "Has Sebastian come in?"
"Mr. Everest doesn't seem to be here either," Daphne answered.
Dashiell's eyes narrowed again.
After delivering the coffee, Daphne left.
Dashiell tried to focus on work, but he was too tired from last night to concentrate.
Thinking about the important project meeting in the afternoon, he decided to rest in his inner office.
Lying on the bed, he couldn't fall asleep.
He took out his phone and started scrolling through Twitter.
Then his eyes froze.
Sebastian had posted a photo of two hands tightly clasped together.
Dashiell instantly recognized Seraphina's hand.
The caption read, "I want to be with you forever."
Dashiell chuckled.
Maybe he had really misunderstood Seraphina last night.
But Seraphina had never made a choice between him and Sebastian.
She probably didn't even know who she really liked.
And Dashiell didn't want to know anymore.
He would just consider it another case of unrequited love!
At the Lockhart Group, Cecilia felt exhausted.
Now three months pregnant, she was feeling increasingly sleepy.
She sat in her office, yawning constantly.
Rose couldn't stand it anymore. "Ms. Lockhart, why don't you take a break and handle work later?" she suggested.
Three months in, almost everyone knew Cecilia was pregnant.
She hadn't really tried to hide it.
But Alaric was too superstitious.
Cecilia looked at the work in front of her and shook her head.
It wasn't that she was working hard; she just couldn't sleep if she lay down.
She only got tired while working.
She continued to look at the documents.
The phone rang.
Cecilia glanced at it, and a noticeable smile appeared on her face.
Such a noticeable smile that even Rose knew it was Alaric calling.
Rose left the office.
As she left, she couldn't help but glance at Augustus sitting on the nearby sofa.
Augustus really didn't understand love!
Cecilia answered the phone, "Aren't you busy, calling me during the day?"
"I was worried you might miss me," Alaric's voice was magnetic.
"I don't miss you," Cecilia stubbornly said.
Alaric had been gone for a month.
They rarely talked on the phone.
Cecilia had gotten used to it.
She told herself she had gotten used to living alone.
"I'm back," Alaric suddenly said.
Hearing this, Cecilia couldn't help but feel a surge of joy.
But she held back from showing it.
She was afraid Alaric was teasing her.
"I'm at the airport with Cassius. Do you want to come pick me up?" Alaric asked.
Cecilia frowned.
Alaric was already at the airport; couldn't he come back on his own?
"I need to go to Hugo's first," Alaric explained, "But I wanted to see you first."
"Why didn't you call me when you were boarding?" Cecilia was speechless.
"I wanted to surprise you!" Alaric replied.
"Then you should have just shown up in front of me," Cecilia said.
"Okay," Alaric agreed, with no intention of changing his mind.
Cecilia sighed, "Wait for me for half an hour; I'll be right there."
"Okay," Alaric responded.
Cecilia hung up the phone and said to Augustus, "Let's go; we're picking up Alaric from the airport."
She walked straight to the office door.
As soon as she opened the door, there stood Alaric—the very same one who had said he was still at the airport!
