Chapter 320 Danger (9) Alaric's Rescue
Cecilia wasn't shot on sight.
She was tied up by those people and taken to a black sedan.
Cecilia's mouth was gagged with cloth, preventing her from making any sound.
On a quiet night in the already sleepy town, the streets were eerily deserted. A sliver of a waning moon hung in the sky, looking lonely and forlorn against the vast emptiness.
Cecilia was unsure of her destination, overcome with immense fear.
No matter how many times she experienced it, facing death was never easy.
The car shook and suddenly stopped.
As soon as it stopped, Cecilia's fear became even more evident, and her body began to tremble slightly.
She stared at the people in front of her, making faint, muffled sounds from her mouth, unable to convey her thoughts. Escaping on her own seemed like a pipe dream.
Cecilia was dragged out of the car, still bound.
Some familiar places made Cecilia's heart skip a beat.
This was the spot where she and Cassius rescued Tom last night, if she remembered correctly.
Would she also be thrown into the Silvershade River?
Just as Cassius had said, it was a standard method.
It was indeed an excellent way to kill and silence someone without using a bullet or leaving any traces and throwing someone bound and stoned into a river; unless the river dried up, the victim would never be found.
No one knew how many people had died in the Silvershade River, how many souls were buried there.
The more Cecilia thought about it, the more hatred filled her heart.
Fear was secondary; she truly hadn't expected such dark forces to exist in a place like this, so lawless.
At that moment, she felt her body being tied to a stone.
Cecilia looked at the people in front of her, at their cold and indifferent faces, as if they were used to it.
She thought, 'Was a human life so insignificant to them?'
If she had a chance to survive, she would definitely bring these people to justice and must do justice to the residents of Lindwood!
Her body shuddered.
She was roughly pushed towards the edge of the riverbank.
The high embankment, with the dark river below and the dim moonlight tonight, made it impossible to see the river clearly. She sensed the river's turmoil tonight; entering would mean being swept away.
Cecilia trembled repeatedly amidst the anticipated horrors.
In the end, she was suddenly thrown into the river.
The man was so strong that she had no chance to resist.
Just like that, she was thrown in.
The river water instantly spread across her body.
Cecilia could swim, but with the weight, she had no chance to struggle. Her body was being dragged down by the stone, sinking deeper and deeper.
She held her breath, trying not to choke on the water, trying to survive.
However, the deeper she sank, the more she felt suffocated.
Suddenly, she felt uncomfortable.
It was a common feeling before death, a longing for life, a reluctance to leave the world.
She recalled her life.
A short life after being reborn.
The revenge she hadn't completed.
The filial piety she hadn't fulfilled.
The person she loved, she hadn't even confessed to.
It was really a shame.
Cecilia's consciousness grew increasingly blurred.
The scene of being stabbed to death in her previous life seemed to flash vividly before her eyes once again.
So this was what it felt like—death was exactly the same every time.
In her moment of deepest despair, Cecilia glimpsed a figure swimming desperately towards her.
Just as she was about to lose consciousness, Cecilia suddenly felt a jolt, as if she had come back to life. She stared wide-eyed at the figure getting closer, watching him swim towards her. He quickly reached her, grabbed her body, and, with a sharp knife, cut the ropes binding her. The stone left her body, and she instantly felt much lighter. The next second, she swam frantically upwards.
The man who saved her also swam up, even supporting her body to help her swim faster.
Cecilia's head finally broke the surface of the water.
When she took her first breath of air, Cecilia was so moved that her eyes turned red.
She thought she would die again, but she survived.
For the first time, she felt that the secret to maintaining a long life was to keep breathing and not getting out of breath, which made a lot of sense.
So she breathed desperately to stay alive.
Her body was suddenly pulled towards the riverbank.
At that moment, Cecilia realized that the person who saved her was Alaric.
The suddenly disappeared Alaric, who suddenly appeared and saved her.
Every time she was in danger, Alaric would appear in front of her.
Her vision was blurry, and she just felt that happiness was so simple yet so hard to come by.
She reached out and grabbed Alaric's clothes tightly.
Alaric seemed to feel it, his thin lips pressed tightly together, holding her as he swam to the shore.
On the shore, Cassius and Augustus were waiting for them.
Seeing them appear, they quickly pulled them up.
At this moment, the night was deep and quiet.
A gust of cold wind blew, bringing a chill.
Cecilia suddenly sneezed.
Cassius hesitated whether to wrap his dry clothes around Cecilia but saw Alaric with a cold face, pulling Cecilia back to the car.
His expression was so grim that Cassius didn't dare provoke him.
Augustus didn't dare to make a sound, either.
At this moment, seeing Mr. Whitaker and Mrs. Whitaker get into the car, they didn't know whether to get in, either. They looked at Cassius, seemingly seeking his opinion.
Cassius indicated that he didn't know what to do either.
He was just afraid of getting caught in the crossfire.
At that moment, they heard Alaric's cold voice, clearly suppressing his anger, "Aren't you getting in the car?"
Cassius immediately ran to the car.
Augustus, seeing Cassius' obsequious behavior, quickly followed.
They sat in the driver's seat and the passenger seat, respectively.
Augustus drove away.
But he thought, 'Where do they go?
They were just instructed to wait here, but no one said where to go after that?'
Now, Augustus didn't know where to drive.
Then they heard Mr. Whitaker's authoritative voice say, "Head back to Serenovia City."
Augustus finally breathed a sigh of relief and drove towards Serenovia City.
Alaric put on a clean coat he kept in the car for Cecilia, who was drenched, while he remained wet without taking steps to stay warm.
Cassius suddenly spoke, "Do you need a towel?"
Alaric's eyes tightened.
Cassius didn't turn around but could feel the death stare.
Cassius thought everything he said was wrong—no, even breathing felt like a mistake!
But, it wasn't him who made Alaric angry.
Clearly, it was Cecilia.
If Alaric had the guts, he should go ahead and get mad at Cecilia!
