Chapter 42 Let Those People Look Up to Them
After finishing dealing with Dominic's insincere affection, Cecilia returned to the mansion.
In the hall, Genevieve was truly anxious. "Cecilia, where were you last night? We were almost calling the police."
"Last night, I got drunk with Seraphina, so I stayed at her place," Cecilia lied.
In her previous life, she was very honest. She did not have any malicious intentions, nor did she guard herself against bad people.
This time, she had to be shrewder. For example, she didn't see anything wrong with some white lies.
"Why did you get yourselves drunk? You don't look too good today," Genevieve said with a tone of concern and relief that Cecilia was back safely.
"Where's Dad?" Cecilia changed the subject.
"He's at work. There's so much to do at the company. He can't be absent all the time," Genevieve replied.
Cecilia nodded but began to plan something at that moment.
"Do you want to talk to him ?" Genevieve, noticing Cecilia's contemplative expression, asked.
"No." Cecilia shook her head. "Mom, have you seen the news today?"
"What news?"
"Haven't you seen it? Let me show you." Cecilia quickly opened her phone and showed Genevieve the news article.
The large headline read: [Low-key socialite Genevieve: Letting you rediscover the true upper class]
The news featured a stunning picture of Genevieve and her perfect figure.
Genevieve felt a bit shy.
For so many years, she had never made the headline like this. Everything from last night felt like a dream. She got compliments, envy, attention, even jealousy.
For the first time, she felt a sense of pride, which lingered until now.
"I won't say much about the news content; it's just praise. Let me read you the comments below," Cecilia said happily.
After hanging up Dominic's call on the way back in the car, she opened Twitter and saw the headline about Genevieve.
The news was arranged by her, but the massive response was beyond her control. She cleared her throat and read the comments aloud.
[This is what they call making a grand entrance. Those former flaunting, rich, and loving ladies should feel ashamed!]
[Serenovia City's top socialite, none other than Genevieve.]
[Who said Mrs. Lockhart came from a humble background and was looked down upon? Ask those debutante daughters of noble birth, can you still have such a grand birthday party with your own name after many years?]
[Don't lie to me; she looks like 30 years old.]
Genevieve suddenly interrupted Cecilia, who was still cheerful.
As she looked up, she saw Genevieve's eyes were red.
Concerned, Cecilia asked, "Mom, what's wrong?"
"I just suddenly feel that you have grown up," Genevieve said with a tearful smile, "You've surprised me, my dear."
Cecilia was puzzled. "You arranged the birthday banquet last night , right?" Genevieve said straightforwardly. "Those surprises were also dad's idea."
"I always thought I didn't care about honor, status, wealth, stuff like that. I thought I only needed you and your dad to live a happy life. However, last night, I had to admit that I was very happy to be the center of attention. Women do have vanity."
"Dad and I hadn’t paid enough attention to your feelings," Cecilia said, wiping Genevieve's tears.
"Thank you so much, Cecilia," Genevieve said, looking at her.
“I will make our family better! Those who looked down on us will regret it one day!" Cecilia said firmly, holding Genevieve's hands.
Genevieve was stunned by her determination.
The next moment, she smiled.
From now on, she would not tolerate any injustice. She wouldn’t let her daughter be mistreated again.
At the Kingsley family, after Dominic finished the call with Cecilia, his expression turned cold.
Of course, he wasn't going to the office.
He was indulgent last night and was still tired today.
He called Cecilia to deceive her.
He thought the foolish woman would love him faithfully.
Sitting on the sofa in the living room, he heard Octavia’s suddenly scream.
Dominic looked at her. "Mom, what's wrong?"
"They called Genevieve Serenovia City's top socialite. What am I then?" Octavia was furious at the comments she saw.
Dominic's expression wasn't good either.
Thinking about the Lockhart family last night, he felt a bit angry.
He and Cecilia were about to get married.
The Lockhart family might have held such a grand banquet before the wedding to make their wedding even more grandiose!
However, he didn't want to spend too much on Cecilia.
"I’m going to kill that bitch Cecilia!" Penelope said from the sofa. Her eyes were swollen. She had been crying since leaving the Lockhart family banquet yesterday.
Hatred filled her heart when she thought of the mess she made last night at the banquet. She hated Cecilia.
She was now a laughing stock at the circle.
She didn't dare to go out, not even daring to speak in chat groups, fearing that people would mention the embarrassing moment from yesterday.
"Shut up!" Octavia's mood was also bad.
She had never imagined losing so terribly to Genevieve.
In her mind, the only one who could compete with her in the entire Serenovia City and even the entire Yakurosean Empire among the elite was Arabella from the Whitaker family. And that was mainly because of the social statues of the Whitaker family. When Dominic entered the noble family path, she would easily surpass her.
However, she couldn't bear such the current situation. Thinking about how she had given Genevieve a completely mismatched bracelet last night, which sharply contrasted with Arabella's gift, she even heard some gossiping socialites calling her hypocritical.
Octavia said fiercely, "After Dominic marries Cecilia, I will make her suffer!"
"Me too!" Penelope, with a malicious expression, reminded Dominic, "Dominic, don't be kind then!"
"Kind?" Dominic sneered as if he had heard a joke.
He didn’t love her at all. He hoped she would die soon after taking advantage of her.
