Chapter 687 Cruelty (9) Juniper
At the birthday party.
Alaric explained, "Ms. Monroe, it's just out of respect for you."
"What if I don't want you to respect me like that?" Lyra asked.
Alaric looked at her.
"What, are you scared?" Lyra asked, a bit smugly, seeing Alaric's expression.
"A bit surprised."
"Alaric, on closer look, you're actually quite handsome," Lyra said, scrutinizing Alaric.
She had been truly deceived by Dominic before, thinking he was the best man in the world and the perfect husband. Now that she saw Dominic's true colors, looking at other men, she suddenly felt that Alaric was a hundred times better looking than Dominic.
Alaric felt a bit awkward under Lyra's gaze. He lowered his eyes, "Ms. Monroe, it's an honor to receive your approval."
"I suddenly feel like giving you to..." Lyra stopped mid-sentence.
Alaric's eyes flickered.
"Never mind." Lyra seemed unwilling to dwell on it.
She turned and walked away from Alaric.
After walking a short distance, she looked back at Alaric standing in the corner.
She had never really looked at Alaric before. If it weren't for Tomas's plan today, she wouldn't have noticed him. From a woman's perspective, Alaric, in his suit today, made the entire banquet hall lose its color. Especially at a gathering like this, invited by Tomas, where most of the guests were older, Alaric stood out as exceptionally handsome.
Lyra felt a surge of desire.
She thought, to get back at Cecilia, besides making her suffer what she had endured, taking Alaric away from her would be even more satisfying!
This thought startled Lyra herself.
She actually started to have feelings for Alaric.
Apart from Dominic, who had actively pursued her and made her like him, no other man had ever caught her attention, especially not someone she pursued herself.
Lyra tried hard to suppress her thoughts.
Meanwhile.
In the banquet hall, Juniper, accompanied by Tomas, walked slowly to the center of the hall in a beautiful princess dress, in front of the large birthday cake.
One had to admit, Tomas was very attentive to his children.
Juniper, Lyra, and Alfonso had a good relationship.
Everyone gathered around at this moment.
Twenty-year-old Juniper was as pure as a lotus flower, with an elegant demeanor.
Many people's eyes were on Juniper.
For the first time, Lyra felt a bit jealous.
She had always thought Juniper was young and not much of a competitor, and she had been very fond of Juniper. But now, seeing so many people praising Juniper, Lyra felt a bit jealous.
Especially when she glanced at Alaric, standing not far away.
Seeing him looking at Juniper with more affection than he had for her made Lyra feel a bit suppressed and embarrassed for being jealous of Juniper.
Juniper blew out the candles and gave a thank-you speech, marking the end of the simple birthday ceremony.
The crowd gradually dispersed.
Juniper, holding Tomas's hand, thanked the guests one by one.
They came to Alaric.
Alaric naturally appeared very respectful, "Ms. Monroe, happy birthday."
"Are you Alaric?" Juniper smiled sweetly at him.
"Ms. Monroe, you know me?"
"I've heard my dad, Lyra, and Alfonso mention you. They said you're very capable and a rare talent for the Monroe family," Juniper said sincerely.
Perhaps because of Juniper's appearance, it was easy to believe what she said.
Alaric was momentarily stunned.
He then respectfully said, "It's my honor."
"Don't be so modest," Tomas noted Alaric's reaction.
He knew very well that most men couldn't resist a girl like Juniper. Juniper's pure and cute appearance was most attractive to men, especially successful ones who liked clean and simple women.
"By the way, I have something to attend to. Alaric, can you take care of Juniper for me?" Tomas excused himself.
"Yes," Alaric agreed.
Tomas deliberately left.
Alaric and Juniper stood together.
There were some unfriendly glances around.
After all, many people wanted to win Juniper's favor.
"You don't seem to like talking much," Juniper initiated.
"No," Alaric shook his head, "I just don't know what to say, afraid of saying something wrong and upsetting you."
"I'm different from my father, Lyra, and Alfonso. You don't have to be so respectful to me."
Alaric looked at Juniper.
"I don't get involved in their business," Juniper continued.
Alaric nodded, "I see."
"See, you're still so reserved," Juniper said, a bit dissatisfied.
Alaric pressed his lips together.
He seemed a bit at a loss.
Juniper noted all of Alaric's reactions.
When Tomas told her to spend more time with Alaric today, she knew Tomas's intentions.
But she wasn't really interested in others.
After all, she had a boyfriend, though she hadn't told Tomas. If he knew, there would be arguments, as her boyfriend didn't have much power, and Tomas wouldn't easily let her marry just any man. But seeing Alaric today was a bit unexpected.
Alaric's appearance gave her a sense of familiarity.
He even amazed her.
She hadn't expected a man to be this handsome.
She thought her boyfriend was the most handsome man she had ever seen.
Of course, she wasn't that superficial.
She was just humoring Tomas and wouldn't really fall in love with Alaric just because of his looks.
"Let's go for a walk outside," Juniper suddenly suggested.
"Okay," Alaric nodded.
They walked out of the hall together.
Lyra seemed to be socializing with Tomas, but kept her eyes on Alaric, feeling uneasy as she watched him leave with Juniper.
She felt that Alaric treated Juniper better than he treated her.
"Lyra," Tomas's voice was cold.
Lyra quickly snapped back, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"What are you standing there for?" Tomas criticized.
"Yes," Lyra quickly picked up her glass.
She suppressed her anger.
Outside the hall, in the small garden.
Alaric and Juniper walked one behind the other.
As soon as Juniper stepped out of the banquet hall, she breathed a sigh of relief, "It's so stuffy inside. I actually hate these birthday parties every year. If it weren't for turning twenty this year, I would have refused again."
