Chapter 549 Cecilia's Provocation
Cecilia was trying to get Penelope and Lyra's attention.
She walked right past them like they were invisible.
Penelope's face twisted in anger. "What's that bitch Cecilia doing here?"
Lyra followed Penelope's gaze and saw Cecilia in a silver spaghetti strap gown. With her swaying figure and perfect curves, even her back screamed charm.
Lyra's face fell.
Because of her pregnancy, she was dressed pretty casually and comfortably. She figured it was just a regular meal with Penelope, so she didn't bother dressing up. Consequently, compared to Cecilia, she looked extremely plain.
Lyra's emotions were all over her face.
Penelope felt the same way; seeing Cecilia always ruined her mood.
Cecilia headed to the restroom.
When she came back, she walked right up to Penelope and Lyra.
Cecilia looked surprised. "What a coincidence."
But Penelope completely ignored her, and Lyra was even more dismissive. Unfazed, Cecilia gave a faint smile and said, "Enjoy your meal."
Her tone was so neutral it was hard to tell if she meant it, almost like she was genuinely happy.
To Penelope and Lyra, her words were like nails on a chalkboard.
It made them seem petty, while Cecilia looked all gracious.
Cecilia walked past them with elegance and took a seat at her table.
Lyra looked at Cecilia and said, "She's actually having dinner with Dashiell."
As soon as Penelope heard Dashiell's name, she lost it.
She spun around and saw Dashiell and Cecilia chatting and laughing, looking super cozy.
"That bitch Cecilia," Penelope spat, her anger clear.
Lyra also watched Cecilia and Dashiell coldly.
Could it be that Cecilia knew Alaric was a lost cause, so she was already hunting for her next target?
"Alaric isn't even dead yet, and she's already cozying up to Dashiell," Penelope said harshly.
Lyra looked at Penelope, frowning. "Cecilia is cozying up to Dashiell?"
"What else could it be? Dressed like a slut in front of Dashiell..." Penelope got angrier as she spoke, "That bitch Cecilia is really good at looking out for herself. Among the wealthy in Serenovia City, Dominic is already married, and she can't seduce Alaric's twin brother, Jasper, so the only one left is Dashiell. Even though Everhart Bank isn't Dashiell's, given the current trend, Dashiell is bound to be wealthy and prominent in the future! Cecilia is taking shamelessness to a whole new level to achieve her goals. Alaric isn't even dead yet, and she's already acting so slutty. And Dashiell is Cecilia's best friend Seraphina's ex-husband!"
Lyra knew the main reason Penelope was so mad was that Penelope liked Dashiell and had never gotten him, so she couldn't stand any woman getting close to him.
Could it really be as Penelope said, that Cecilia was really starting to look for her next support?
Did this mean Cecilia had truly given up on Alaric?
Lyra thought deeply about it.
If that were the case, Alaric would be doomed!
"I can't stand it anymore," Penelope said, unable to bear it any longer.
Lyra's eyes moved slightly. "What are you going to do?"
Penelope said, "I'm going to beat that bitch Cecilia to death."
"Penelope!" Lyra's face darkened. "Get a grip and don't act like a lunatic! Do you still care about the Kingsley family's reputation?"
"I don't give a damn." Penelope brushed off Lyra's warning.
She got up and stormed over.
Lyra wanted to stop her, but being pregnant and not wanting to make a scene, she held back and let Penelope go.
Cecilia had her back to Penelope.
Dashiell gave Cecilia a knowing look, and Cecilia immediately understood that Penelope was coming.
She smirked coldly, thinking Penelope had taken the bait.
"Cecilia, you bitch!" Penelope stormed over, yelling, "Alaric isn't even dead yet, and you can't wait to jump into another man's bed! Shameless!"
Cecilia looked up at Penelope with a calm expression and said, "Ms. Kingsley, what I do is my business. What does it have to do with you? Don't act like a lunatic and ruin your reputation."
"You!" Penelope was fuming.
Cecilia stayed cool as a cucumber.
Penelope really wanted to strangle Cecilia. She gritted her teeth and suddenly grabbed Dashiell's arm.
Dashiell's eyes flickered.
Penelope used all her strength to drag Dashiell away.
Dashiell paused and looked back at Cecilia.
Cecilia gave him a look, and Dashiell followed Penelope out.
Lyra, of course, noticed Penelope's actions. Her face darkened even more.
Penelope was being foolish, dragging Dashiell away in front of everyone and leaving Lyra alone here.
Lyra was very displeased, but to maintain her noble and elegant image, she had to endure it.
Lyra's eyes flickered as she saw Cecilia suddenly walk over and take a seat right in front of her, in the spot Penelope had just vacated.
Lyra's expression shifted slightly, clearly showing her displeasure.
Cecilia said, "Since we've both been ditched by our companions, why not eat together?"
"You did it on purpose," Lyra said coldly.
Cecilia chuckled, not embarrassed at being exposed.
She said, "If you think so, I can't help it."
She deliberately spoke ambiguously.
Lyra was secretly angry. What was Cecilia's real intention?
Lyra picked up her phone from the table, trying to appear nonchalant.
Cecilia noticed and said calmly, "Don't worry, with your esteemed status, no one would dare harm you. I just want to exchange a few pleasantries."
Lyra's thoughts were exposed, and she looked visibly embarrassed.
Cecilia said, "I wonder what you think of Dominic?"
"What are you trying to say?" Lyra's face darkened.
Cecilia said, "Just curious."
"I have a good relationship with him; you can't drive a wedge between us," Lyra said firmly.
"I know you love Dominic, but are you sure Dominic loves you the same way?" Cecilia asked.
Lyra said, "I'm sure."
"I used to feel the same," Cecilia said calmly, "but it turns out he was just putting on an act."
Lyra said, "That was with you."
Cecilia went on to ask, "So, Ms. Monroe, do you really think you're much better than me? Dominic doesn't love me but would be so devoted to you?"
Lyra's face visibly changed.
"In terms of beauty, figure, ability, family background, talent..." Cecilia looked at Lyra. "Ms. Monroe, in what way are you superior to me?"
