Chapter 513 Outburst (6) Cassius Injured

In the room, only faint sounds of breathing could be heard.

Cecilia's body went rigid as she heard footsteps getting closer, her heart pounding faster and faster.

A pair of black Martin boots stopped right next to her.

If those boots moved just a bit more, they'd touch her.

Cecilia didn't dare to move, but she was so nervous she was shaking.

If they found her, she'd be dead in a second.

In her past life, she'd been through hell but never anything this intense. The worst was getting stabbed to death by Dominic.

But in this life, she'd faced guns more times than she could count.

If this kept up, she was sure she'd lose her mind.

Time dragged on.

In the dark room, the four people didn't seem to find anything.

But they weren't leaving either.

Cecilia suddenly heard a man's muffled voice speaking into a transmitter, "Find the switch."

Cecilia didn't know where Cassius and Augustus were hiding, but once the lights were turned on, she would be surely doomed.

She bit her lip, trying to control her heartbeat and think of a way out.

Just then, a loud crash echoed through the room.

A vase not far away shattered on the ground.

The four people immediately rushed towards the noise.

Cecilia saw a figure dart out of the room.

The four people chased after it like crazy.

Before she could catch her breath, someone grabbed her.

"It's me, Mrs. Whitaker," Augustus said urgently.

Cecilia nearly had a heart attack.

"Mr. Blackburn went to distract them. I'll get you out of here first. They'll find us soon," Augustus said, pulling her arm and leading her out.

Cecilia didn't care that she was barefoot and without her winter clothes; she just followed Augustus and ran.

They didn't dare take the elevator and headed for the emergency exit instead.

From the 14th floor, they ran straight to the garage.

They'd already found a car there. Augustus and Cecilia jumped in.

Augustus floored it and sped out of the hotel like a maniac.

While driving, he called Cassius, "Mr. Blackburn, I've got Mrs. Whitaker out of the hotel. No one's following us. How about you?"

"I'm shaking them off. Don't worry about me. Meet at the usual place."

With that, Cassius hung up.

Augustus didn't waste a second and drove to the "usual place."

Cecilia had no idea where that was.

But she hoped it was somewhere safe.

Soon, they pulled up to a fancy nightclub.

After parking, Cecilia got out with Augustus.

Someone else drove the car away, probably to make sure they couldn't be tracked.

Cecilia followed Augustus into the nightclub.

They made their way through the loud, crowded hall, led by staff, and entered a private room.

Cecilia thought it was just like in Serenovia City, a special room for Cassius, but then she saw the sofa being pushed aside, revealing a hidden door and another room inside.

She tried to stay calm and followed them in.

Once inside, the hidden door closed behind them.

It was just Augustus and Cecilia in the room. In such a tight space, Cecilia felt a bit claustrophobic and even more on edge.

Augustus noticed Cecilia's unease and quickly reassured her, "Don't worry, the whole Yakurosean Empire nightclub is Mr. Blackburn's turf. We're safe here."

Cecilia nodded. It wasn't that she didn't trust them; it was just that the deeper she got into this, the more shocking secrets she uncovered.

They sat in the room for a bit until the hidden door opened again.

Cassius walked in, slightly out of breath and looking worse for wear.

He dropped into a chair, clearly uncomfortable.

"What happened?" Cecilia asked, moving closer.

As she got nearer, she caught the scent of blood.

She saw a bullet hole in Cassius's pants, with the bullet still lodged in his thigh. It looked nasty.

Cecilia was too shocked to speak.

Cassius turned to Augustus, "Get the medical kit and help me get this bullet out."

"Got it," Augustus nodded quickly.

Cecilia stood by, watching Cassius.

He was in so much pain that his whole body was tense, but he didn't make a sound.

Augustus found the first aid kit and started working on removing the bullet.

"Turn around," Cassius told Cecilia.

She was taken aback.

Was her fear that obvious?

"I'm just worried Alaric will come out and chew me out for scaring you," Cassius joked through gritted teeth.

Cecilia bit her lip and turned around.

Fear was definitely not the most important reason. She was just respecting their way of handling things.

Cassius probably didn't want anyone to see him in such a vulnerable state.

Behind her, she heard only a few muffled groans.

Cecilia couldn't help but wonder why, despite being heirs to wealthy families, do their lives differ so much from others?

About half an hour later, the bullet was out, and the wound was bandaged.

Cassius slumped on the sofa, exhausted from the pain, his eyes closed as he tried to ease the discomfort.

"There's a room upstairs," Cassius said with his eyes still closed. "Cecilia, you should get some rest."

"Aren't you going to sleep?" Cecilia asked.

"I'll sit for a bit first. Don't worry, there are plenty of places for us to rest."

Cassius thought she was worried that if she took the bed, he wouldn't have a place to sleep.

In fact, she had already scoped out the place when they arrived.

This so-called private room was actually a hidden house, with a living room, kitchen, and bathroom downstairs. Upstairs were bedrooms, and at a glance, there seemed to be three or four rooms.

"If you're not going to sleep, I'd like to talk to you for a bit," Cecilia said, sitting next to Cassius.

Cassius glanced at her and said bluntly, "I won't say anything. If you have questions, ask Alaric."

"I'm not trying to make you spill anything," Cecilia said, a bit exasperated by Cassius's caution.

She always felt Cassius was unreliable.

In fact, he was much more meticulous than most people.

"I just want to talk to you about Alaric's case."

"Alright," Cassius nodded.

"We were attacked as soon as we got to Harborvale, which means everything about Alaric is definitely a setup. They want to kill us to stop us from finding any evidence," Cecilia got straight to the point.

"Of course!" Cassius sneered. "Alaric is so straight-laced, would he embezzle such a small amount of money? The money he casually spends on women is more than that!"
