Chapter 700 Chaotic Situation (5) Missed
"What are you doing?"
Dashiell was momentarily distracted.
A guard standing at the courtyard gate shouted at Dashiell.
Dashiell pretended to be startled.
He said, "Sorry."
Then he quickly prepared to leave.
"Wait!" The guard who had shouted at him suddenly called out.
Dashiell's face tightened.
At that moment, he stood still.
"Why are you alone? Where's the other one?" the guard interrogated.
He was also sizing up Dashiell.
However, guards and patrols are two different systems, with guards holding higher positions.
Naturally, they didn't respect the patrols much.
"The one partnered with me had a stomachache while on duty today..." Dashiell explained softly.
"Who?" The guard's face darkened.
For such negligence, he was naturally very strict.
How could Dashiell know who it was?
He stammered, "I'm new here, I don't really remember his name..."
The guard looked at him coldly, "Are you trying to cover for him?"
Dashiell didn't speak.
"Anyway, I can find out even if you don't tell me!" the guard said coldly, "Go patrol!"
"Yes." Dashiell quickly walked away.
He also breathed a slight sigh of relief.
He walked past the small courtyard where Cecilia lived, with guards stationed at the entrance. He couldn't get in.
So he had to climb the wall again.
Dashiell calculated the time and found the right spot.
He flipped over the not-so-high wall in one leap.
It was already 7 PM, and the sky was getting dark, making it easier to hide.
He hid behind a big tree for a while, making sure there were no other patrols or guards in the courtyard, then walked through the courtyard into the living room.
The room was dimly lit.
It was very quiet at the moment.
Could it be that Cecilia hadn't returned yet?
She had been going to the restaurant for meals these past few days.
Dashiell hid in the room for a while, waiting for Cecilia, but neither she nor Augustus showed up.
Dashiell, feeling helpless, tried to avoid the surveillance and sneaked into Cecilia's bedroom.
The bedroom door was unlocked, and the lights were off inside.
Dashiell looked around and confirmed that Cecilia was indeed not in the room.
So, where did Cecilia go?
At this time, Cecilia should have been back, and with Gideon not around, she wouldn't stay out for long.
His eyes tightened.
Suddenly, he heard footsteps approaching.
Dashiell quickly hid in the wardrobe.
Just as he closed the door, the room door was pushed open, and at the same time, the lights came on.
Through the gap in the wardrobe door, Dashiell saw a middle-aged woman walk in and start cleaning the room.
As she cleaned, she muttered, "Haven't stayed long, and already left."
Dashiell's brow furrowed.
From her words, it seemed Cecilia had left.
Dashiell confirmed that the middle-aged woman was alone in the room and suddenly opened the wardrobe door.
The woman was startled by the sudden movement.
She was about to scream when Dashiell covered her mouth tightly.
She looked at Dashiell in terror, her eyes wide open.
Dashiell lowered his voice and said, "Don't worry, I won't hurt you. You just need to answer a few questions."
The woman was still in shock.
Dashiell didn't have much time and spoke with a threatening tone, "Nod if you understand!"
The woman came to her senses and quickly nodded.
"Was Cecilia the one who lived in this room?" Dashiell asked.
The woman nodded.
"Did she leave today?"
The woman nodded again.
"Did she leave in the morning?"
The woman shook her head.
"Did she leave in the afternoon?"
The woman nodded.
"Did she leave at three o'clock?"
The woman thought for a moment and nodded.
"Did Augustus leave with her?"
The woman nodded.
"Did Gideon send her off?"
The woman shook her head.
"Do you know where she went?" Dashiell continued to ask.
The woman shook her head again.
Dashiell knew that a servant couldn't possibly know so much.
He said harshly, "I'm going to let go of your mouth now, but don't scream, or you'll face the consequences!"
The woman quickly nodded.
Dashiell let go of her mouth but immediately placed a prepared sedative on her lips, and she naturally passed out the next second.
Confirming that Cecilia was no longer there, Dashiell quickly left.
Leaving was easier than entering.
Dashiell didn't take much time to leave smoothly. He got into a rented car, driving while making a phone call.
Cassius answered, "Did you succeed?"
He had been nervous.
Seeing Dashiell's call made him even more nervous.
"No," Dashiell said bluntly.
"No? Did something happen? Cecilia isn't dead, is she?" Cassius was extremely agitated.
Dashiell thought Cassius's overreactions could scare anyone to death.
"No, Gideon sent Cecilia away early."
"What?" Cassius shouted, "Gideon is so cunning! Did he anticipate we would rescue Cecilia?" Cassius cursed.
Dashiell had never interacted with Gideon and didn't comment on him.
"So what now? Should we tell Alaric?" Telling him would definitely affect his mood.
At such a critical moment tonight, there couldn't be any mistakes.
"Cassius, I don't dare to hide anything from Alaric, nor will I," Dashiell said bluntly.
Telling Cassius was just to give him a heads-up and prepare for all possible outcomes.
"Alright." Cassius didn't say much. At that moment, he suddenly thought of something, "Cecilia is under Gideon's control, so she might not be in immediate danger."
"What do you mean?" Dashiell asked.
"Recently, Francis went to the Hotchner Mansion and met Cecilia. They even put on a show together."
"What?" Dashiell, who had arrived late, knew nothing about this.
"Francis called Alaric, and I overheard it. He said Gideon used Cecilia to trick him out of his island. But since Gideon is dying and the Hotchner family is falling, tearing up the contract is meaningless. So the island doesn't matter. What's important is that Cecilia used this to negotiate a condition with Gideon."
"What condition?" Dashiell was a bit excited.
He believed Cecilia was smarter and braver than they thought.
"No matter what Alaric does, as long as Gideon doesn't die, Gideon won't kill Cecilia."
Not to mention how much Cecilia distrusts Alaric now, but the problem is, "Tonight, Alaric is going to kill Gideon!"
"Listen to me," Cassius continued, "Francis said Gideon has fallen for Cecilia."
Dashiell was completely speechless.
"That bastard Gideon, I thought he didn't like women! He hasn't pursued a woman in years!" Cassius cursed.
"So Alaric knows that Gideon likes Cecilia?"
"Of course, I heard it, so he definitely heard it. You have no idea how dark his face was at that moment!" Cassius easily went off-topic.
Dashiell was speechless.
Was this the time to care about that?
The real question is, knowing that Gideon has feelings for Cecilia, will Alaric still choose to kill Gideon?
