Chapter 633 A Chance Encounter with Cassius
Later, Cecilia headed to the hospital.
She wasn't sure if she was pregnant, but she didn't want to take any chances.
Before, she didn't care much about having kids, but after Alaric kept bringing it up, she started to get excited about the idea—a lot.
Sitting in the car with Augustus driving, she felt a bit anxious.
What if she was pregnant?
What if she wasn't?
Cecilia hadn't felt this nervous in a long time, her palms were sweaty.
Should she tell Alaric?
She was torn.
Even when the car stopped at the hospital, she still hadn't made up her mind.
Taking a deep breath, she decided to check it out herself first.
She didn't want to disappoint Alaric.
His desire for a child was so strong, and she worried it might be a false alarm.
Besides, she didn't have any symptoms.
She just felt tired and her period was two days late.
Cecilia opened the car door and got out.
Augustus walked with her.
They headed towards the obstetrics and gynecology department.
Cecilia's heartbeat quickened, and she felt a rush of anxiety just thinking about what might happen.
"Cecilia?" A familiar male voice suddenly broke through her thoughts.
Cecilia jumped, her nerves already on edge.
Turning, she saw Cassius standing there.
He was like a ghost that just wouldn't go away.
How did she always manage to run into him at the hospital?
Meanwhile, Cassius looked at her with a mix of surprise and concern.
"What are you doing here?" Cassius, who had been some distance behind her, quickly caught up.
The pregnant Lily, who was far behind him, couldn't keep up with his pace.
She tried to catch up but then gave up.
After all, Cassius never waited for her.
Even if she caught up, she couldn't keep up.
She might as well walk at her own pace and be comfortable.
Cecilia saw Lily behind Cassius. They hadn't seen each other for months, and Lily's belly was so big she was probably about to give birth.
At first glance, it looked like even walking was a challenge.
Lily had put on quite a bit of weight, looking very different from the slim version of herself. Now, she appeared notably healthy.
"Cecilia, what are you doing in the obstetrics and gynecology department?" Cassius was a bit annoyed that Cecilia didn't respond to him.
Cecilia withdrew her gaze.
She replied, "I'm not feeling well; I came to see a doctor."
"Not feeling well?" Cassius asked, a skeptical look on his face. "What exactly is bothering you?"
"I'm in the obstetrics and gynecology department. What do you think is wrong with me?" Cecilia was speechless.
"You're pregnant!" Cassius was certain.
Cecilia's heart raced at Cassius's words.
Just the thought of possibly being pregnant made her nervous.
She said, "No, just came for a check-up."
Cassius didn't quite believe her.
Cecilia ignored Cassius and walked towards Lily, asking proactively, "Are you about to give birth?"
"The due date is approaching, but I'm not showing any signs of labor yet. I came in for a check-up today," Lily explained. Then she asked, "Ms. Lockhart, are you pregnant?"
"No." Cecilia denied again.
She didn't want anyone to know before it was confirmed.
"Alright." Lily didn't ask further.
Clearly, she was much more understanding than Cassius.
"Go get your check-up." Cecilia urged.
"Okay." Lily nodded.
Cecilia thought Lily seemed very obedient. Then Cassius and Lily left together.
Cassius strutted ahead, while Lily struggled to keep up and eventually gave up.
After all, she and Cassius were only together for the baby's sake. Once the child was born, they'd go their separate ways.
To be honest, even before the baby was born, Cassius lived his own life.
Although Hugo tried to keep Cassius in line, he couldn't control him completely.
Cassius had plenty of ways to dodge Hugo's watch and do whatever he wanted.
Lily just hoped that after giving birth, she'd finally get her freedom back.
Cecilia watched Cassius and Lily from a distance, shaking her head and thinking, "One day, Cassius will regret this!"
Cecilia turned and walked into the doctor's office with Augustus.
The doctor asked her to get a blood test.
It was possible she was in the early stages of pregnancy, so the ultrasound might not show anything yet.
Cecilia nervously went for the blood test and waited for the results.
The waiting was pure torture.
Augustus sat with her in the hallway.
Cecilia suddenly remembered her past life. Back then, she often came to the obstetrics and gynecology department, trying all sorts of ways to have a child. She used to wait nervously for the results each time, but later, she became indifferent. Now, she never thought she'd feel this nervous and anxious again.
But her feelings seemed different now.
In her past life, she had a stubborn desire to have a child, as if it were the only thing that mattered.
Now, she was hopeful, full of joy at the thought of having a child with Alaric.
The long wait felt like forever to Cecilia.
She got up to get the test results.
Looking at the results, she was a bit stunned.
Since she had studied pregnancy extensively in her past life, she knew what the HCG levels should be.
"Cecilia." A familiar male voice suddenly sounded in her ear.
Cecilia was startled.
Instinctively, she hid the test results behind her back.
She looked up and saw Alaric.
Why was Alaric here suddenly?
She immediately thought of Cassius. It must have been Cassius who told Alaric.
"What's wrong?" Alaric asked, clearly concerned.
Cecilia clutched the test results, her fingers trembling with nervousness.
"Let me see it," Alaric said, his tone serious.
He probably thought she was hiding something—maybe a serious illness.
Cecilia didn't give it to him, and Alaric's expression grew darker as he visibly tensed and became anxious.
"Cecilia," he said, his voice heavier than usual. He rarely got angry with her, but now he seemed easily provoked.
"Let me see," he insisted, articulating each word clearly.
Cecilia bit her lip, realizing that if she didn't hand it over, he might scare himself to death.
She handed the crumpled test results to Alaric.
When Alaric took it, his fingers were visibly trembling.
His deep love for Cecilia made it impossible for him to hide his nervousness!
In Cecilia's past life, Dominic had never behaved like this. Even when she was unwell, his concern now felt so insincere in hindsight.
Cecilia watched as Alaric opened the test results, his expression serious as he stared at them intently.
She anxiously studied his face, not wanting to miss a single moment.
However, after a lengthy silence, Alaric still hadn't reacted, and his brow furrowed even deeper. "What's HCG?" he asked.
