Chapter 316 Danger V: Cecilia's Intelligence
Cassius reluctantly agreed to Cecilia's help. After all, it wasn't going to be easy to extract the second-in-command of the drug lord smoothly. If someone was willing to assist, it was definitely an advantage.
Cassius first went to the hospital and came back with two sets of clothes: one nurse's uniform and one doctor's outfit.
Cecilia and Augustus changed into them.
With their disguises in place, they stepped out of the car and strode confidently into the hospital.
They headed straight for the trauma unit.
The nurse at the front desk eyed them curiously, noticing their unfamiliar faces, and seemed ready to question them.
Cassius approached, and before the nurse could react, he expertly jabbed a syringe into the back of her neck.
"She'll be out for half an hour," Cassius said, dragging the unconscious nurse behind the desk to hide her. He glanced at Cecilia. "That's your cue. If we're not back in half an hour, you need to get out."
Cecilia nodded in understanding.
Cassius and Augustus made their way directly to the ICU.
Two police officers stood guard at the ICU entrance, apparently there to oversee the situation.
Or maybe they were just there to keep an eye on things.
Currently, the only news about the fireworks factory was the explosion—nothing about the drug trafficking. It was possible they were trying to keep the whole situation under wraps.
Tom and Alaric were the only ones who knew the real story. As long as they were silenced, this whole affair might just blow over.
"What's going on?" one of the officers asked as Cassius and Augustus approached.
"Routine check," Cassius replied smoothly.
"Routine? Seems a bit frequent," the officer frowned.
Cassius, having visited earlier, knew this scrutiny was coming. "The higher-ups have insisted we take extra care with this patient. No mistakes allowed, so we need to be thorough," he said, maintaining a calm demeanor.
The officer scrutinized Cassius, weighing his words.
Cassius remained composed.
The officer finally nodded. "Alright, go ahead. Make sure you do a thorough job. If something goes wrong, it'll be on us too."
"Don't worry, we'll take care of it," Cassius assured him.
Just as Cassius and Augustus were about to enter, the officer spoke up. "Hold on a minute."
Cassius's heart skipped a beat, but he turned around.
"You go in alone. He'll stay outside," the officer decided, his caution evident.
Cassius didn't argue. He turned to Augustus. "Wait here."
Augustus nodded.
Cassius entered the ICU alone.
With the two officers watching him closely, Cassius appeared to be conducting a professional examination of Jason.
Cassius kept glancing at the two officers, aware that it was impossible to move Jason out from under their watchful eyes. If he made any sudden moves, the entire building's police force would be alerted. He could manage to slip away on his own, but without complete assurance, moving Jason was another story.
Frustration was beginning to build when he suddenly saw Cecilia, dressed in a nurse's uniform and wearing a mask, appear at the door.
The officers turned to her. "What are you doing here? Didn't we say no unauthorized personnel?"
"I'm looking for my boyfriend," Cecilia said with a look of innocent distress.
"Who's your boyfriend?" the officer asked, his face darkening.
"Over there." Cecilia pointed at Augustus.
Augustus, with his face covered by a mask, turned beet red.
Before the officer could respond, Cecilia had already rushed over to Augustus and grabbed his hand. "I'm scared being here alone so late. Didn't you promise you'd be with me?"
Augustus was caught off guard, clearly uncomfortable, as Cecilia dragged him away.
Confused, Augustus found himself led to a corner that seemed discreet but was actually within the officers' line of sight.
Cecilia leaned in close to Augustus and whispered, "Just play along with me."
Augustus was still disoriented but then felt Cecilia standing on her tiptoes, coming nearer to his face.
She placed her hand over his face, blocking their mouths from view, making it look like they were kissing.
In reality, they were just close, and both were still wearing masks.
"Help me get out of this uniform," Cecilia said softly.
Augustus was momentarily stunned.
"Hurry up," Cecilia urged. "Make sure not to expose the bulletproof vest."
Gritting his teeth, Augustus reluctantly followed Cecilia's instructions. He unfastened her nurse's uniform and the bulletproof vest beneath it, carefully pulling the vest out and letting Cecilia's top slide down to her shoulders.
"Damn it," one of the officers muttered from a distance.
Both policemen stared, wide-eyed.
They thought, 'This nurse is incredibly bold.
'Isn't this dereliction of duty?!
'And, damn, this nurse has an amazing figure...'
The officers were completely captivated by Cecilia and Augustus.
Then, in the blink of an eye, Cassius took advantage of their distraction, using a syringe to put them out cold.
As they crumpled to the floor, Cecilia quickly led Augustus toward the ward.
Together, they swiftly transported Jason, who was already unconscious, to the waiting vehicle.
The entire operation was executed with stunning speed and efficiency.
The other side hadn't anticipated anyone coming to move Jason, so they hadn't taken additional precautions.
Once back in the car, Augustus floored the accelerator and sped away.
Cecilia, still shaken, took a while to regain her composure after leaving the hospital.
Cassius, having removed his disguise, turned to Cecilia with genuine gratitude. "You were more useful than I imagined."
He had nearly resorted to taking drastic measures, almost confronting the two officers directly.
But Cecilia's quick thinking had bought him the perfect window of opportunity he had been desperately seeking.
Taking a deep breath, Cecilia managed to calm herself down.
"Cassius, we can't do this alone," she said.
Cassius frowned.
"What I mean is, we can't rely solely on ourselves to find Alaric. We don't know how many people are around the target he's pursuing or how dangerous this person might be. Going in blindly might not only be futile but could also cost lives."
"What's your plan?" Cassius asked.
Given Cecilia's sharp thinking and her ability to act decisively to help him move Jason, Cassius felt he could trust her judgment.
Besides, any woman capable of impressing Alaric must be quite resourceful.
"We can't depend on local law enforcement due to the local protection. But we can use Serenovia City police or even the Yakurosean Empire's forces. If we expose Lindwood's fireworks factory as a drug cartel's hideout, they'll undoubtedly send reinforcements. That way, we won't be left on our own."
"So you're suggesting we report to Serenovia City police?"
"Not without evidence. Without proof, it's all talk and we might end up being blamed by Lindwood's government. I want to stay in Lindwood to gather the evidence that Alaric hasn't yet obtained. Meanwhile, you and Augustus should go after Alaric."
