Chapter 568 Penelope's Revenge (1)

Cecilia's words made Alaric freeze. He was clearly in shock.

Augustus and George, who had been with him the whole time, were also taken aback by what Cecilia said.

How could she threaten Alaric like that?

The operating room door closed with a heavy thud, and Cecilia's eyes turned red. Without Alaric by her side, she felt a deep emptiness. She never thought Alaric would mean so much to her in this life.

In the quiet hallway, Cecilia's phone suddenly rang, startling her.

She quickly pulled out her phone, checked the caller ID, and answered, "Dashiell."

"Are you home?" Dashiell asked.

"No, I'm at the hospital," Cecilia replied.

"What's wrong?" Dashiell asked, frowning.

"Alaric has a perforated stomach and is in surgery now," she explained.

"I'll come over right away," Dashiell said.

"Okay," Cecilia said, hanging up the phone.

At that moment, she suddenly thought about whether she should call the Whitaker family to inform them. She had almost forgotten—Alaric was having surgery, and she needed to notify his family.

"I'll let Alaric's parents know," she murmured.

But George stepped forward to stop her. "Mr. Whitaker has been very independent since he was young. He rarely bothers the Whitaker family."

Cecilia frowned, finding George's words a bit strange. 'What does he mean by "bothering the Whitaker family"? They are family; how could it be a bother?' she thought.

But George didn't explain further. "Don't worry. Mr. Whitaker will be fine," he said.

For some reason, Cecilia found herself following George's advice without knowing why. Notably, throughout all the pre-surgery preparations, Alaric himself had never mentioned notifying the Whitaker family.

Half an hour later, footsteps echoed in the hallway. Cecilia turned to see Dashiell walking anxiously towards her.

"How's Alaric?" Dashiell asked.

"I don't know. The surgery has been going on for almost an hour," Cecilia replied anxiously.

"What about Cassius?" Cecilia suddenly remembered and asked.

How was Cassius, the one who caused a scene in court, doing?

"He's now detained at Sentinel Penitentiary in Serenovia City for 15 days for contempt of court," Dashiell responded.

Hearing this, Cecilia felt a bit helpless. Cassius had been detained again, the second time because of Alaric.

"Mr. Blackburn's influence in Serenovia City shouldn't let Cassius be detained for so long, right?" Cecilia asked, surprised. It was understandable in Harborvale, as it wasn't the Blackburn family's territory, but in Serenovia City?

"Mr. Blackburn didn't intervene to reduce Cassius's punishment. In fact, he made it clear that no one should get involved. So, no one dared to alter the sentence, and Cassius ended up detained. Mr. Blackburn also wanted to punish Cassius for his recklessness. The main point is..." Dashiell explained.

He didn't mention that the main point was Alaric had already been released, so what happened to Cassius didn't matter.

Last time, Richard went to Harborvale because Alaric's situation required Cassius to handle many things, so he was proactive.

For so many years, Richard's attitude towards Cassius made people who didn't know them think Cassius wasn't his biological son.

"Don't worry too much about Cassius," Dashiell said, "He'll be fine."

Cecilia paused, thinking it made sense.

After talking with Dashiell for a while, Cecilia seemed less nervous than at the beginning.

But every now and then, Cecilia glanced at the operating room, worried something might go wrong.

Dashiell was worried too, but he didn't show it as much as Cecilia did.

He was busy checking messages on his phone.

With everything going on with Alaric, he hadn't had much time for work lately.

Now, he saw a message about Unity World Bank setting up a shop in Serenovia City.

Everyone knew how big a deal this bank was globally.

Once it hit Serenovia City, it was sure to grab a huge chunk of the market.

Everhart Bank was freaking out, and everyone was scrambling to figure out how to keep their market share.

There was an emergency meeting scheduled for early tomorrow morning, led by Atticus himself.

Dashiell was silently scrolling through his phone when an incoming call popped up on the screen.

He glanced at it for a moment before stepping aside to answer, "Penelope."

"Dashiell, is that you?" Penelope's voice was filled with anger.

Dashiell pursed his lips, staying silent.

"Did you rescue Lyra from me today?" Penelope's pent-up emotions burst out.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Dashiell replied.

"Don't know?" Penelope's eyes were red with frustration, clearly upset.

She had barely escaped the police with her subordinates' help and was planning to leave Serenovia City and the Yakurosean Empire on a smuggling boat that night.

Dominic and Octavia had both been arrested. Penelope knew she would have been caught, too, if she hadn't escaped quickly. If she hadn't run during her confrontation with Lyra, she'd be detained by now. She knew that if she were caught, given her past actions towards Lyra, Lyra would definitely kill her.

Her only option now was to escape, leaving behind Dominic, Octavia, and the place where she grew up.

But the more Penelope thought about it, the angrier she got.

When she found monitoring software and a real-time location device on her phone, she knew it was Dashiell.

Her phone had never left her side, except for that night when she had dinner with Dashiell.

She thought Dashiell was just using her to provoke Seraphina, but she didn't expect to be framed by him. Penelope couldn't accept it!

The more she thought about it, the more upset she became.

She loved Dashiell so much, yet he was the one who destroyed her family!

"I heard the police are looking for you," Dashiell said calmly, unfazed by Penelope's questioning and breakdown.

There was no emotion in his voice at all.

"If you don't want to be prosecuted, I suggest you leave the Yakurosean Empire. While no one knows your exact location yet. The longer you wait, with the Monroe family's power, you will have nowhere to hide."

"Are you concerned about me? Or are you trying to ease your guilt?" Penelope asked sarcastically.

"You can pretend I didn't say anything," Dashiell said coldly.

Then he hung up the phone without another word.

He had no emotional reaction towards Penelope.

Although he deliberately let her go when rescuing Lyra, it didn't mean anything.

Dashiell put down his phone and was about to return to the operating room when a message popped up on the screen.

It was from Penelope: [I will make you regret it, Dashiell!]
