Chapter 606 Genuine Feelings (1)

"Doesn't matter if you're pregnant or not," Alaric said, lost in his own thoughts. "The noble family hasn't found anything on me yet. They just wanted to use me, and once I'm no longer useful, who knows what they'll do!"

Cecilia looked at Alaric, realizing he knew more about the noble family than she thought.

So, was everything he did planned out—even marrying her?

Thinking about it, Cecilia couldn't help but ask, "Was marrying me part of your plan to join the noble family?"

She wasn't particularly upset; she understood Alaric's dedication to his mission. But a bit of sadness lingered.

When Cecilia chose to marry Alaric, it was for mutual benefit.

But now, she had fallen in love with him.

Women are truly emotional beings.

Cecilia waited for Alaric's response. He looked at her, his smile particularly charming, and said, "Your presence was purely accidental."

Hearing his words, Cecilia breathed a sigh of relief.

She wasn't part of his plan; she had actively sought out Alaric. She wasn't sure how to feel about that.

She then pressed, "Then why did you agree to marry me so readily? Was it just for cooperation?"

"Of course not," Alaric replied with a charming smile. "You do remember how bad your reputation was before the marriage, don't you?"

Cecilia was speechless at his words.

Did he have to hit her where it hurt at a time like this?

But when Cecilia thought about it, it made sense. Back then, to please Dominic, she had held back all her abilities, leaving everyone to believe she was useless while her intelligence and talents were overshadowed by him. No wonder Alaric hadn't noticed her existence.

"Then why did you marry me?" Cecilia asked, a hint of annoyance in her voice.

Given Alaric's powerful background and her lack of abilities, why did he compromise so easily?

No matter how she thought about it, it seemed like Alaric got the short end of the stick in this marriage!

"What do you think?" Alaric suddenly asked Cecilia.

Cecilia's heart inexplicably began to race as his gaze filled her with a sense of excitement. Could Alaric truly flirt with just his eyes?

Yet Cecilia deliberately said, "I don't know."

"Because of love," Alaric said unexpectedly.

"But we had no interaction growing up. How could you fall in love with me?" Cecilia questioned, puzzled.

Had Alaric been secretly watching her all along? The idea that he had silently liked her without her knowing sent chills down her spine, but despite that, Cecilia felt genuinely touched.

"When we were little, didn't you say you would marry me?" Alaric reminded her.

That was ages ago; anyone normally wouldn't take it seriously.

"I took it seriously," Alaric said, his deep eyes looking at Cecilia, as if recalling her childhood self. "I was sent to harsh training at a very young age. My mind was filled with killing and bloodshed until I saw you, the adorable you. When your soft little hand held mine, I felt warmth in my heart for the first time. It's hard to put that feeling into words—like a spring breeze gently brushing through my soul. It was truly beautiful. Even later, during my training, I often thought about the touch you gave me."Cecilia was speechless. Could she really admit she felt nothing back then? She had almost forgotten everything, yet somehow, she had become Alaric's salvation.

"Of course, someone like me isn't deserving of love, nor do I believe I should experience it. When I found out about your engagement to Dominic, I pushed you from my mind and treated you like a stranger. But..." Alaric looked at Cecilia, "I don't know why, but you kept appearing before me."

Hearing this, Cecilia thought about how she hadn't exactly been frequently appearing in his sights. She had grown up without even noticing Alaric, and it wasn't until his sudden inability to defeat Dominic that she truly paid attention to him.

Alaric continued, "I often come here to train, but to avoid raising suspicion, I occasionally appear in Serenovia City and attend classes like normal. I'm three years older than you, having progressed three grades ahead, so we shouldn't have any reason to cross paths. Yet, for some reason, you always seemed to be in front of me. During breaks, when I was bored and leaned over the classroom balcony to look down, I'd see you and Seraphina walking hand in hand through the school—whether it was elementary or high school, you just lingered there, haunting me..."

In her memories, Cecilia realized she had never run into Alaric even once.

She recalled her early school days. When she first entered elementary school, she had heard about the two most renowned figures in the school: Alaric and Dominic.

Alaric was always fighting and getting into trouble. He was often criticized, but never expelled because of his family background.

Dominic, on the other hand, was always the one receiving praise. Whenever there was a significant event at the school, Dominic took center stage, leading the way and making it a memorable experience.

Back then, Dominic was the Prince Charming in everyone's eyes.

Yet Alaric was the bad boy everyone avoided, fearing his beatings.

As they grew older and teenagers began to experience their first stirrings of love, Alaric's striking looks transformed him from a feared figure into the most handsome guy in school.

Dominic remained the model student, praised by teachers and admired by classmates, while Alaric became a polarizing figure; some girls blindly pursued him, while others disliked him. Cecilia, at that time, naturally sided with those who disapproved of Alaric.

"I think you don't remember this," Alaric said.

Cecilia frowned slightly.

What didn't she remember now?

"Something that happened in your second year of middle school," Alaric reminded Cecilia.

So many things happened in Cecilia's second year; how was she supposed to know which one?

Alaric continued, "The time you needed a sanitary pad in the bathroom."

Hearing this, Cecilia suddenly felt ashamed.

That incident was really embarrassing for her.

She had just started her period and wasn't good at predicting it. One day, after an extracurricular activity, she realized she had her period and hid in the bathroom, too scared to come out. It was quite late, and most students had gone home, but some were still around. There was no one else in the bathroom, and her phone was dead. In her desperation, she heard some noise outside the bathroom door.

She quickly shouted, "Can you go buy me a pack of sanitary pads from the school store? I just got my period and didn't bring any pads."
