Chapter 623 Drunk, True Nature Unleashed
"I didn't catch that," Dashiell said coolly as the elevator doors slid open, and he stepped out without a backward glance.
"Dashiell!" Seraphina fumed, feeling the urge to scream. How could he be so heartless?
Dashiell made a beeline for the garage, hopped into his car, and got ready to take off.
Seraphina, panting and desperate, blocked his car, refusing to let him leave.
Why was their stamina so mismatched? She practically had to sprint to keep up with his long strides.
Seraphina was out of breath, while Dashiell sat in the driver's seat, looking completely unbothered.
She knocked on his window, and he rolled it down. "The special task force members were chosen ages ago. Adding someone now is pointless. The project's almost done, and Sebastian wouldn't make a difference," he said icily.
"If it doesn't matter, why can't Sebastian join?" Seraphina shot back.
Dashiell replied, "When I say it doesn't matter, I mean Sebastian's contribution wouldn't be significant. But if any confidential info got leaked, it would be a disaster."
"Are you seriously suspecting Sebastian?" Seraphina wasn't entirely clueless.
"I treat everyone the same," Dashiell said.
"If you treat everyone the same, you wouldn't be singling out Sebastian! Why can't he join?" Seraphina was livid.
Dashiell retorted, "The task force has thirty people. Everhart Bank has thousands of employees. Plenty of people didn't make the cut. Why do you think I'm targeting Sebastian?"
"I..." Seraphina was at a loss for words.
She used to think Dashiell was boring—so dull he barely spoke. But now, his sharp retorts left her speechless.
"If Sebastian wants a bright future at Everhart Bank, he needs to understand that shortcuts won't get him there. They might seem quick, but they can easily lead to accidents."
What did that even mean?
With that, Dashiell rolled up the window.
He hit the gas and sped off before Seraphina could react.
Seraphina was fuming.
She really wanted to strangle Dashiell.
What was so great about him anyway?
Seraphina stormed back to her car, knowing her attempt to get Sebastian into the special task force had failed.
Sebastian heard nothing about joining the task force that week. He realized either Seraphina hadn't pulled through, or Dashiell had flat-out refused. Either way, it was a bitter pill to swallow; his future at Everhart Bank was looking bleak.
Sebastian's face was grim.
Just then, he got a call from Wilford, who sounded frustrated. "Sebastian, you came to me about getting into Serenovia City, providing all that useful info. Now, all the companies we negotiated with are backing out. Do you know how hard it was to convince Unity World Bank's headquarters to enter the Yakurosean Empire's market? And now you mess everything up at the last minute! How am I supposed to explain this to headquarters? I've worked so hard to get where I am, and you're ruining it all!"
Sebastian gripped his phone tightly, his face dark.
Wilford was someone Sebastian had actively pursued. They met during a previous business project, and Sebastian had promised to help Unity World Bank enter Serenovia City in exchange for Wilford's help in gaining control of Everhart Bank once the market stabilized. Everything had been going smoothly until Dashiell's interference derailed their plans.Wilford exclaimed, "Sebastian, listen up: I can't cut my profits any more. If I do, it'll lead to negative growth, mess up our market competition, and cause serious audit risks. I need to know exactly what sweet deals Everhart Bank is offering these companies and what discount plans they've got! I need targeted strategies to break through, not just relying on low prices to gain an edge!"
Sebastian sighed, "Alright, just give me a day, and I'll figure it out."
Wilford warned, "Sebastian, if you let me fail, I'll drag you down with me! If Everhart Bank finds out about our collusion, you won't be safe either!"
"I get it, you don't need to keep reminding me!" Sebastian snapped before abruptly hanging up.
After hanging up, his face was still dark with frustration.
With no chance of joining the special task force, all business plans would have to pivot toward theft.
Sebastian never thought he would be pushed to this point by Dashiell!
After another banquet ended, Dashiell told the driver to take Daphne and Seraphina home first.
Seraphina was a bit tipsy. For the first half of the month, she worked overtime in the office writing proposals, and for the second half, she attended various banquets every day. Her body was really starting to give out!
Suddenly, she felt a sharp cramp in her stomach.
The driver looked back and asked, "Ms. Everhart, do you need to be sick?"
"Stop the car," Seraphina quickly said.
The driver quickly pulled over as Seraphina flung open the car door and crouched on the ground, violently emptying her stomach. Dashiell knelt beside her, concerned, while Daphne stood close by, her expression filled with worry. Seraphina vomited for what felt like an eternity, as if her entire stomach was trying to escape.
If it hadn't been for helping Dashiell with his drinks...
But then again, if she hadn't stepped in, he might have ended up drunk at the table.
"Drink some water to rinse your mouth," Dashiell said, handing Seraphina a bottle of water.
After taking a couple of sips, Seraphina stood up.
"Let's go," she said, but her head suddenly spun with dizziness. Dashiell quickly stepped in to support her.
Seraphina glanced at Dashiell, silently letting him help her back into the car.
The car continued to drive towards Seraphina's place.
Seraphina leaned against the back of the car seat, drowsy.
When the car arrived at their destination, Dashiell glanced at Seraphina. She seemed groggy, as if she recognized that she was home, or maybe it was just an illusion. Either way, she sat in the car without moving.
Dashiell instructed the driver and Daphne to wait for him before helping Seraphina out of the car.
After so many banquets, Seraphina had never been this drunk.
Daphne couldn't help but look at their backs and sigh.
If only Dashiell and Seraphina would take advantage of the drunkenness to make love.
They clearly still had deep feelings for each other!
At that time, Dashiell helped Seraphina back to her apartment.
Seraphina lay on the bed, feeling extremely uncomfortable. She mumbled, "Water."
Hearing this, Dashiell paused his steps to leave.
He went to the kitchen to pour Seraphina a glass of water, thought for a moment, and added some honey.
He then handed it to Seraphina.
But Seraphina didn't get up, just kept asking for water.
At this, Dashiell helped her sit up from the bed, letting her lean against the headboard before bringing the glass to her lips. "Drink some," he said gently.
Seraphina looked at Dashiell groggily and opened her mouth, but at that moment, she suddenly found herself not wanting to drink water. Instead, she craved intimacy with him!
